Pros/Cons
Pros
- I use the free version, so the cost is great. I like the fact that there are tons of tutorials and examples available to help a person learn.
- Overall my experience with Unity 3D has been very good. I created a couple of decent games using Unity 3D which turned out to be pretty good games with great visuals.
- The documentation is clean and super helpful when you know what you are looking for. I love its flexibility, portability to every platform you could ever need.
Cons
- To be honest, the worst part of this software is - it's free. Some of the people are about to make a bad video-games with Unity and it makes Unity - a poor application.
- Error handling is frustrating in this software. Suppose if a random error occurs because of importing any plugin/asset then it will ruin the entire project and it is very tough to undo.
- Unity is known for having mainly 2 bad things: extremely bad support for multiplayer games and limitations once the project becomes too big.
Pros
- It was so good very user friendly, especially features like label and conflicts tracking. Checkin and checkout features are awesome.
- Perforce is great, when you master it. It becomes a very powerful and useful tool once you know how to use it.
- It's amazing to use Helix Visual Client (P4V) on different OS platform with similar user experience, really like perforce's strong notion of a changelist.
Cons
- It hanged during a demo which made the demo totally useless. Because of this issue getting difficult to work with only solution seem to be is to kill and restart application.
- I dislike how when you switch computers it is difficult to keep the documents check out. I got a new computer and I had to contact the admin to release some documents that I had checked out.
- Sometimes something will go wrong with a check-in and your files will get locked. Eclipse requires restart to reconnect to eclipse plugin.
