ArchiCAD by Graphisoft is a building information modeling (BIM) solution designed for architects, designers, interior designers and urban planners. The product caters to small and midsize businesses and is available both in cloud-based and on-premise deployment options.

ArchiCAD features conceptual design, which enables users to calculate floor area in a construction plan. The product also features a visualization module, which allows users to extract still images and animations for a building plan. ArchiCAD’s automatic drawing generation provides users the tools to extract standard documents such as building views, sections, elevations and 3D documents.

ArchiCAD features Solibri Model Checker, which analyzes the building information model to identify potential design weaknesses and clashing components. It also ensures that the designs follow recommended BIM standards. Users can also estimate the energy requirements and costs for a model.

ArchiCAD offers integration with different construction systems, such as Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, Tekla BIMsight and Allplan Engineering systems.

BIM for Architectural Designers

Pros

The originators of Building Information Modeling (BIM) which has revolutionized the architectural profession. Never make dumb CAD drawings again!

Cons

Compared to some of the Autodesk products, ArchiCAD doesn't have as much integration with other third party visualization software programs.

Perfect program for Architectural and Engineering combined works

Pros

This program has great features and a it's relatively easy to use compared to other 3d modelling programs

Cons

As other 3d modelling programs, it can be scary to use it. Maybe an updating in terms of style and design could be helpful

Very easy to install and start drafting

Pros

If you're familiar with CADD programs and drafting environments, you'll feel right at home with ArchiCAD. It is very easy to start using, and their tutorials and help menu can answer pretty much any question you have.

Cons

It doesn't play well with other drafting platforms, so you pretty much need to choose one and work solely in that environment.

Great BIM Software

Pros

I like the ease of use, the library with a plethora of kitchens, doors and many many more already pre-made and customisable objects that are ready for use, the ability to collaborate with other engineer via internet on the same file and the ability to design your own customisable objects.

Cons

The cost is big for self-employed engineers. It's also a little bit confusing the whole procedure if you'd like to give the file to another user.

ArchiCAD is a life saver design tool for Simple Architecture

ArchiCAD is an impressive tool for use in the design of small scale projects. It is very optimized in that from floor plan layout to final design takes short duration. You can design a complete project with all the details exportable to various formats. It comes with a good built in library with more available for free on their website. Overall, a powerful tool for Architectural Design.

Pros

It comes with drag and drop style tools that are easily programmable. The conversion from a 2D layout design to 3D and Floor plans is automated. It comes with built in Libraries that can easily provide finishing details and realistic proportions of final design. Very good for Quick Design jobs under time constraint.

Cons

The rendering of 3D models is very poor in Quality. Additional Render tools are required which come separately at additional cost.

ArchiCAD is a good drafting program, though not for everyone

Pros

- Intuitive interface
- Easy to use and navigate menus/commands
- Export to .dwg to share with AutoCAD users.

Cons

- It's not for everyone. I'm familiar with other drafting programs and when I import a drawing created in ArchiCAD, it overlays so many layers that I spend half my day erasing objects.

Nice modelling integration, third party apps would be nice

Pros

- Ability to import 3D objects (furniture/appliances/structural elements)
- Apply materials to various surfaces for rendering

Cons

- A large third party app library would be nice, so users can find tools not included with ArchiCAD
- Ability to flatten/clean-up exported files would be nice.

High end Designer Software

Overall, my experience with ArchiCAD was awesome. I would recommend it to designers

Pros

I have used this software for my design needs for the last one year and the value I have gotten from it it insurmountable! The software offers a nice practical 2D and 3D experience when doing the models. It also offers numerous tools which when combined, one is able to bring out an excellent image just like a pro. With proficiency with the software, one is able to maneuver so fast and with so much ease that the software actually reduces the time required for a drawing by more than 70%. It was easy for me to learn the operations as they all are practical and well organized on the screen.

Cons

Some starters may find it challenging to work with the numerous tools the software offers. It also requires some advanced skills and knowledge about designs.

A solid contender in the CADD software field

Pros

We use both ArchiCAD and AutoCAD in house, and the former is definitely a solid piece of drafting software. It provides perspectives and 3D views instantaneously, and the rendering engine produces high quality renders.

Cons

The customer support takes a while to get back to support tickets which can lead to lost productivity and revenue depending on the issue.

Missing some features for MEP firms

Pros

ArchiCAD is intuitive and easy to install/configure. The layout is easy to understand and the integrated 2D/3D simultaneous drafting saves time for design firms that need to work in both environments.

Cons

Our firm focuses on MEP designs, and ArchiCAD is missing some key features that other drafting programs include.

Not my favorite for every day use, but it does its job pretty well

Not my top choice for a CAD software, but it is a fine option and is cheaper than my top choice.

Pros

Not a bad interface, and it is very fast and easy to use after you learn the ins and outs of the program. IFC support is good as you can export and import to many other CAD softwares.

Cons

The learning curve is steep, and some of the program seems a little outdated. The fact that you cannot have multiple viewports was very frustrating to me.

Has been one of the most easiest programs to use specially coming from Autodesk to ArchiCad

ArchiCad is simple and straight forward.

Pros

3D Animation
Ease of use integration into other Programs like lumion & twinmotion
Import & export to other program formats

Cons

there is not much to critisize about due to the program is stryt forward, however there is a bug problem that causes the program to shutdown when you are doing big projects.

Great for 3D drawings

Great 3D drawing product has many features.

Pros

Easy to use and great product for making 3D plans you can learn this product easily that you don't need to be computer expert to master it, I just need to explore its features and you can make your imagination comes to life .

Cons

There are other products better to be used than archiCAD when in terms of detailed 2D drawing but in 3D drawings archiCAD is the best.

Great 3D product to use

Overall its great on 3D making .

Pros

Ease to use than other product when in terms of 3D detailed designs , so easy to learn how to use it . so many features can be use to make your product realistic. I like this product!

Cons

It's hard to adjust when you are a user of Autocad you need to read and watch tutorials so you can adjust on its interface, I like to try the many features of archicad I'm still trying to try all of its features on the future.

2D/3D modelling suite all-in-one

Pros

- The ability to work in both 2D and 3D at the same time allows for the creation of detailed working drawings along with a 3D model for presentation, visualzation and discipline coordination.

Cons

- Interface can be difficult to navigate for newer users. Basic features and functionality is similar to other CAD programs, though ArchiCAD doesn't feel as intuitive to navigate.

ArchiCAD very powerful but super hard to figure out!

Pros

I have seen some amazing things done with this program. Id handles 3d assemblies and many other things with apparent ease.

Cons

I found it very hard to move to from regular AutoCAD. There were many features i wanted to use that too many many hours of tutorials and manual reading to sort out. Definitely not intuitive.
