For those who hate autocad, here is a great alternative

Pros

ArchiCAD is, for me as an architect, a pleasant experience in the world of the CAD that does not oblige me to think too much as an engineer, but rather as a designer. The software is complete, enjoyable to the eye and to the touch, and noteworthy when it comes to saving time and hair! Yes, as you can see, I don't like so much his most feared competitor!

Cons

Sometimes, as often happens in the universe of the CAD, it gets tricky to use to reach your point. Tutorials are always useful to overcome level and know more about how these software think.

Great as an all in one tool

visually nice to use!

Pros

Archicad is like a combination of autocad and illustrator, but with better 3d functionality. I really enjoy drawing in this program because you see exactly how it looks without having to go to a print mode.

Cons

The downside is that it is really not an industry standard program. Select offices use it and then file exchange can become an issue.

Well designed cad package, Rendering can be improved

still the overall value would be make it a good option, unless you are already seasoned with a different CAD and BIM package. Also rendering output results and image realism is a consideration to keep in mind.

Pros

Full feature set, and integration but also interface that is not cumbersome to get used to. Switch from previous packages was not an issue.

Cons

Rendering compared to our other solution was not as crisp, at least from our experience. But end result was good enough for our clients.

A lightweight software for modeling implementing production with BIM

When you are designing a simple project and you need to have all the technical information and BIM data quickly this tool is the one that I use since in my experience it is useful for specific projects of small and medium scale in which I need to model the 3d and have all the Quickly available technical information.

Pros

Being much lighter than other software of its same branch you can quickly model the projects and get all the necessary information of documentation and technical blueprints of the project, its commands and tools work correctly and does not generate many complications, you can access the BIM data in real time and collectively and that is a very efficient option when it comes to working as a team.

Cons

The application for the presentation of the project left me unsatisfied, it is not very flexible and not very creative, the quantification lists and budgets are somewhat complex and it is a task that should be very easy to perform and understand, the appearance of renders is quite low with a realistic quality that does not leave me satisfied.

Archicad

Pros

What I like most about this software is the crisp graphics and the organizational aspect of the software. Really easy to use once learning the program.

Cons

What I like least about this software is the complexity between utilizing an xref in the software. It is very difficult to coordinate this command to work off of.

BIM for Architectural Designers

Pros

The originators of Building Information Modeling (BIM) which has revolutionized the architectural profession. Never make dumb CAD drawings again!

Cons

Compared to some of the Autodesk products, ArchiCAD doesn't have as much integration with other third party visualization software programs.

Very easy to install and start drafting

Pros

If you're familiar with CADD programs and drafting environments, you'll feel right at home with ArchiCAD. It is very easy to start using, and their tutorials and help menu can answer pretty much any question you have.

Cons

It doesn't play well with other drafting platforms, so you pretty much need to choose one and work solely in that environment.

Great BIM Software

Pros

I like the ease of use, the library with a plethora of kitchens, doors and many many more already pre-made and customisable objects that are ready for use, the ability to collaborate with other engineer via internet on the same file and the ability to design your own customisable objects.

Cons

The cost is big for self-employed engineers. It's also a little bit confusing the whole procedure if you'd like to give the file to another user.

ArchiCAD is a life saver design tool for Simple Architecture

ArchiCAD is an impressive tool for use in the design of small scale projects. It is very optimized in that from floor plan layout to final design takes short duration. You can design a complete project with all the details exportable to various formats. It comes with a good built in library with more available for free on their website. Overall, a powerful tool for Architectural Design.

Pros

It comes with drag and drop style tools that are easily programmable. The conversion from a 2D layout design to 3D and Floor plans is automated. It comes with built in Libraries that can easily provide finishing details and realistic proportions of final design. Very good for Quick Design jobs under time constraint.

Cons

The rendering of 3D models is very poor in Quality. Additional Render tools are required which come separately at additional cost.

ArchiCAD is a good drafting program, though not for everyone

Pros

- Intuitive interface
- Easy to use and navigate menus/commands
- Export to .dwg to share with AutoCAD users.

Cons

- It's not for everyone. I'm familiar with other drafting programs and when I import a drawing created in ArchiCAD, it overlays so many layers that I spend half my day erasing objects.

Nice modelling integration, third party apps would be nice

Pros

- Ability to import 3D objects (furniture/appliances/structural elements)
- Apply materials to various surfaces for rendering

Cons

- A large third party app library would be nice, so users can find tools not included with ArchiCAD
- Ability to flatten/clean-up exported files would be nice.

High end Designer Software

Overall, my experience with ArchiCAD was awesome. I would recommend it to designers

Pros

I have used this software for my design needs for the last one year and the value I have gotten from it it insurmountable! The software offers a nice practical 2D and 3D experience when doing the models. It also offers numerous tools which when combined, one is able to bring out an excellent image just like a pro. With proficiency with the software, one is able to maneuver so fast and with so much ease that the software actually reduces the time required for a drawing by more than 70%. It was easy for me to learn the operations as they all are practical and well organized on the screen.

Cons

Some starters may find it challenging to work with the numerous tools the software offers. It also requires some advanced skills and knowledge about designs.

A solid contender in the CADD software field

Pros

We use both ArchiCAD and AutoCAD in house, and the former is definitely a solid piece of drafting software. It provides perspectives and 3D views instantaneously, and the rendering engine produces high quality renders.

Cons

The customer support takes a while to get back to support tickets which can lead to lost productivity and revenue depending on the issue.
