McCormick Systems has been providing electrical estimating software since 1979 and offers a comprehensive solution for commercial, industrial, residential, low voltage, solar and other specialty contractors. McCormick boasts several levels of the estimating program; each level serves a particular set of contractors, from the individual contractor and small service firms to multi-million dollar contracting firms. With an “all in one”, built in, digital takeoff (Design Estimating Pro), McCormick provides a complete and full featured estimating package.

McCormick contracting estimating systems include thousands of electrical item details and over 30,000 pre-built assemblies to help contractors build accurate and complete estimates. The solution allows contractors to import prices of electrical equipment from major pricing services such as NetPricer and Trade Service; the program also allows for pricing updates directly from Excel files. With features such as auto count and auto homerun, PDF plan takeoffs can be counted and measured in a fraction of the time. Best Estimating Software

My overall experience with McCormick Electrical Estimating was positive and productive. The software provides a solid foundation for building accurate electrical estimates and helps streamline many parts of the takeoff and pricing process. Once you get comfortable with the layout and workflows, it becomes a reliable tool for organizing materials, labor, and assemblies in a consistent and repeatable way. Although some areas of the interface feel dated and occasionally require extra steps, the core functionality is dependable. Overall, McCormick offers a powerful estimating solution that supports efficiency, accuracy, and better project planning for electrical contractors.

What I liked most about McCormick Electrical Estimating was how intuitive and efficient the entire platform felt. The software is designed specifically for the realities of electrical contracting, so the tools, workflows, and terminology make sense right away. I appreciated how quickly I could build accurate takeoffs, organize material and labor costs, and make adjustments without having to start over. The database of items and assemblies is thorough, and the way the system updates totals in real time really helps with decision-making. Overall, McCormick made the estimating process faster, more consistent, and much more manageable compared to traditional methods.

Cons:

What I liked least about McCormick Electrical Estimating was that some parts of the system felt a bit outdated and required more clicks than necessary to complete certain tasks. The interface isn’t always as modern or intuitive as other estimating platforms, so there can be a learning curve, especially for new users. At times, navigating between screens or adjusting items in the database felt slower than it should be. I also found that customizing certain features required more steps than expected. While the software is powerful, these usability issues occasionally made the workflow feel less efficient than it could be.

Stay Away! Archaic software that make money by charging people to sign up and to cancel.

They answer right away because they have to in order to keep any customer base. That's a plus. I guess you have to do that when the software literally crashes for no reason and doesn't let you log back in and it can't do the most foundational things. They should have kept it as a desktop software.

It's fully featured and can do anything you would want from an estimating software. Just expect it to do it slowly, inaccurately, and crash a lot.

Cons:

We spent over 20 hours trying to get their IT to work with our suppliers and link with our current system, but they couldn't get there. We paid for trade-services as per their recommendation, but they were never able to link a supplier to get accurate costing for materials. Without accurate costs an estimating software is useless. It is a clunky file management system that uses an archaic approach of a virtual machine to save the files and run the software. It is also susceptible to crashes that sometimes require support to get back in the software. No matter our bandwidth we had troubles getting any type of responsiveness out of the takeoff software and would have been better to do it in excel. We hired an new estimator that swore buy it, so we purchased it for him. We had to buy 10 hours of training and pay an onboarding fee even though we didn't use any of it. After we realized he was terrible at his job (no wonder he loved McCormick) I emailed to cancel. They charged $500 monthly and it was a couple grand to start for one license. Best part is they refused to cancel my subscription unless I paid $2750. A business that stands behind their product wouldn't have these practices.

We enjoy and would recommend McCormick Electrical Estimating Software

Overall we feel satisfied with McCormick Electrical Estimating software, I do think the customer service needs to be more trained in Foundation integration for when those questions arise.

For the most part McCormick Electrical Estimating it has what we need to create bids. We need to dive in more so we use all aspects of it.

Cons:

Could be a bit more user friendly. With there being lots of moving parts, I feel there could be easier ways to complete.

Great possibilities

Very powerful but cumbersome, some things are not very intuitive and trying to figure them out becomes tiresome.

Multiple users can work in the same estimate at the same time allowing for speedier take-offs and completion.

Cons:

Editing assemblies slows everyone down to a crawl, causing reboots and frustration with the person doing the editing.

Pros:

I like how easy it is to filter through the items and assembly database to find what your looking for. It is also really nice to be able to customize the menu to your liking.

Cons:

Sometimes its hard to know what breakdowns you assigned to certain take-off if you needed to go back and make any changes to previously taken off items.

Small Learning Curve but overall great program!

Overall, we like the software in our office. It made a lot of the various tasks of estimating go a lot faster and smoother.

The ease of use and user friendly design. The databases are vast and customizable and customer service is always amazing.

Cons:

There is a small learning curve when learning the program initially. The appearance seemed a little outdated but overall customer service and training were both really helpful!

A good solution for small to medium sized electrical bids

After working in Accubid Classic for 7 years, I inherited this software when I moved to a new company about 18 months ago. Overall it is a great tool for estimating, but it does have it's limitations. I think it's a best fit for smaller electrical contractors that do not have to do complex breakdowns in their bids. I do particularly like how easy it is to create assemblies in the database. Where we really struggled is with the roll up portion of the software. In the end, we just used McCormick for takeoff and loaded extension reports into our own Excel spreadsheet to wrap the projects up. While we are keeping the software, we have just moved to Accubid Anywhere, which although its a bit complex at first, will offer a complete solution to our needs.

Ease of takeoff, Can modify and create assemblies quickly, Muliple assembly and item windows make finding thing easy.

Cons:

Roll up tool is limited. Audit trail can be confusing. Moving takeoff to different labels can be cumbersome. Not capable of multiple breakdowns or cost allocations.

It has a current database with prices of the most of important supplier. This software is user-friendly and it can be used by a beginner engineer to perform project budgets.

I think that it could cost fewer. This software is special to beginner companies and the price is not affordable.

Pros:

The main benefit is its library of materials that allows you a better calculation according to what the client requires, since you can enter various materials or labor until you obtain a budget that meets the requirements

Cons:

I do not know if the version I use is very limited but every time I wanted to make a change that was not allowed in this verification or I needed to make some kind of payment ... I still consider that the time I have used it is little
