partnership with Esub is good - build on getting more into that program as well.

Pros

ease of use- field has taken full use of this app - I have never seen the field accept an app like this. they like it because it is user friendly. customer service has been excellent. app is fast and reliable. ROI is hard to establish, but I know we are saving time..

Cons

the price as a company would be something to look at - If I have 400 people using, I would probably not want to pay that much per person per year.

Tech support is excellent, fast, knowledgeable, etc.!

Pros

I love the fact that it works so well on a tablet that is very usable out in the field. Synchronization is fast and reliable. All members of our team receives updates with no issues. Tech support is awesome also.

Cons

Not much except for possibly the pricing but I am sure that most people would complain about that! Very well made product!

I recommend Plangrid to my colleagues.

Pros

Easy to use in the field. Easy to teach my field supervisors how to use on tablets. This is a very reliable tool.

Cons

I wish that the reporting tools were easier to set up. I have to make my own report because the ones provided are not very intuitive.

Works great with ipad. Android use has had some quirks, but it seems to be improving.

Pros

Love the fact that changes can be shared on the fly to hand-held devices without having to redistribute paper drawing pages or sets. Feedback and field dimensions can be shared more quickly and efficiently than when we were working with paper sets.

Cons

Its a little pricey if some team members need only occasional use. However, there is no small group option, which makes it a little more difficult to share with sub-subcontractors.

Great app, great support. If you need to be mobile and don't like to carry around your construction drawings, this is a great tool!

Pros

This product is easy to use and easy to install. The support is awesome. They answer my questions very promptly and are very knowledgeable. Many neat features but even if you just want to view and mark up drawings, this is a great tool.

Cons

Maybe the price but I am sure everyone pretty much says that as a con!

Ease-of-use

Value for Money

We have had to conform our workflow to how the program operates. Consequently, things are spread out, disorganized and filled with duplicates. Issues with uploading have caused us to wonder if all our drawings are really uploaded or not; there's no time for second guessing! This program has lots of potentials it could be fantastic but currently is frustrating to use.

Pros

Automatically searches for and creates hotlinks between drawings; automatically names sheets, as well
All drawings are stored and synced in the cloud, easily shared with others, even if they don't own a subscription to PlanGid

Cons

Not all features are available in the different platforms (Online, Desktop and App versions) and you have to switch between them too frequently
Creating and managing "Version Sets" is confusing and doesn't always make sense for every drawing
Cannot comment or mark up supplemental documents; comments on sheets are hidden, no notifications are sent out when someone comments
Unable to create folders for projects. We have multiple types of drawings for each projects, and some

Very simple to use. I'm not général contractors so I don't need all the features but what I use is pretty good. I started with the hammer subscription put all my Plans and I was thinking that 50 sheets were going to be free all the time but then a received email forcing me to pay $ To upgrade to 550 sheets in the App Store. But on the website, $ gives me 5000 sheets.
I'm also using Procore so it is very easy for me to compare the app.

Pros

Like that, I can scale distance and Draw on the PDF link my attachment and photos.

Cons

I do understand why I can't zoom like in another app that open PDF.
But for me I find myself wanting to zoom just a little bit more.
And a wood uses a back button or undo button for annotations.

I do business with dozens of GC's and every one uses different software to host construction docs. Plangrid is the only one that shifts the hosting expense to subs. A $ per year expense. Unanticipated during estimating. Ridiculous. GC's: if you are the one guy pulling this on your subs, don't expect priority pricing in the future.

Plan grid has been useful for our team to be one step ahead of the game in document control. I am currently working on a larger project with multiple files, especially ASIs. As a result, the overlay capabilities makes it easier to keep up with drawings that have been superseded and have the most current jobs in the field.

I like the ability to tag drawings by discipline and in my case phases. The ability to hyperlink drawings to compile an as-built set or update current drawings with referenced RFIs, ASIs or SK drawings is extremely useful.

I wish that plan grid would allow users that admins share files (i.e. subcontractors) have the ability not to pay. I think the GC should be responsible for payment , management, and distribution of files. Plan grid should sell perhaps licenses to the GC company and not charge individual subs a monthly fee just to review drawings. As a result, after the trial period ended none of the subs for my job signed up to use Plan Grid. Consequently, I've been using Bluebeam Revu Studio which has similar capabilities and users download a free software through Bluebeam that allows access to all the project folder and files. What Plan Grid has over Bluebeam currently is the OCR to recognize sheet names through the plan index and this is a standard feature; however, in order for Bluebeam to mimic Plan Grids basic principle, it seems like an added cost. Overall I like the software for in-house management but as far as the sharing it with the subs and getting them to use it for a project entirety it has been a struggle. Therefore I think they should either consider lowering the rates for additional users.

Pros

Intuitive and ergonomic functionality. It keeps files up to date and automatically supersedes old files.

Cons

The cost to share with other team members. If I have a project that has multiple subs that have a Project Manager, Asst Project Manager, Field Superintendent and Foreman who need to have the most updated drawings and each has to pay the fee then it gets pricey on their end. So I think Plan Grid should sell package/licenses s to subcontractor teams so they can distribute to their team in-house which you screen through their email address.

Advice to Others

For viewing on PC , if there is an older version have a big red stamp that says SUPERSEDED or OLD VERSION flash across the screen so the user knows he is in the older version. I think there is a caution like a symbol on the tablet version, but it is not as obvious on the PC platform.

I am a special inspector for large scale commercial buildings in a large market. It seems every general contractor it starting to go paperless with plans and specifications and they all use different programs, so I have used a lot of them to say the least. I feel the PlanGrid is the most user friendly. I tend to take the plans and specifications from some of the other programs contractors are using for specific projects and put them into PlanGrid for my own use.

For those familiar with standard user interfaces PlanGrid is very easy to pick up. It was recommended to me by the lead architect on our project and I'm very happy she did so. It was made immediately useful by allowing me to quickly upload my drawing set and begin making punch lists for the construction project I was overseeing.

Pros

One of my biggest time sinks is formatting reports so once I found out that this app formats them for you I was immediately hooked. The default format is very logical and simple to read and for that I am eternally grateful. No more messing with strange Word formatting procedure for this guy.

The collection of photos and being able to mark them up instantly is wonderful. It is great for punch lists as well as cataloging existing conditions. Simply being able to note where the photo is taken is excellent.

The myriad of additional mark up tools is fairly standard but very necessary and also well done. Without them this tool would not feel complete or flexible.

Cons

Initially it was difficult for me to find out how to download the remainder of my photos. They are kept in a folder on your device that I haven't found a quick way to get out without another app like Astro File Manager (another great app for those of you looking for better folder access).

If there was an option to include a list of photos and there locations on the reports that would be very helpful for existing conditions. It's just slightly quicker that making punch list items for each photo taken. I haven't used the app for a few months since I've been on other projects so I apologize if this has been added.

Advice to Others

Do a quick "example" project for yourself before trying this with anything associated with your work. The company preloads a few example plans to work with so you can try out all of the features before using. Every program has a certain flow to it so make sure you take the time to give yourself some free play with PlanGrid before venturing out on your own with your projects.

My director found this program and decided to test it for use in our hospital. It has now become a vital tool in doing his rounds looking for safety violations, and any structural issues.

Pros

This software can be accessed via a portable tablet, yet I can access it through my computer. The sharing feature is great.

Cons

Printing is a little complicated and the scanned blue prints are not as big as I would like.

Advice to Others

Definitely worth trying for your company.
