PlanGrid Software

PlanGrid is construction management solution built for general contractors, specialty contractors, design teams and owners. PlanGrid provides project teams with access to all project drawings and all related documents including specifications, shop drawings and progress photos. All new data and revisions are automatically synced to the entire project team.

PlanGrid complements this with a suite of collaboration tools. Issue tracking is used to track work assignments, collect and complete punch lists and track defects. Field reports offer a way to complete job site reports such as daily reports, checklists and inspection forms using default or custom form templates. RFIs can be filed from the field and linked to all relevant project documentation.

At project completion, a full, hyperlinked as-built can be generated and shared with owners. PlanGrid offers a mobile app available on iOS, Android, Windows devices.

Pros

Simple to use and set up. Easy to teach others. Instantly upload submittals and have others in the field see it.

Cons

The pricing per user was a bit high compared to other companies. Also I didn’t like that you were limited to how many sheets you used

Pros

The architect we were working with made us use this for punchlists on a large project. We like how fluid this program is and it was was really easy to use.

Cons

not much to say on cons. It does cost money obviously but most good programs have a cost. We found it well worth the money.

I wish I used it for more than just a brief case.

Pros

Sync ability between desktop app, ipads and iphones. Saves me from carrying multiple very heavy Drawings around.

Cons

Take-off/ Measuring Tools lack the convenience of even Adobe Acrobat. Importing of sheets from PDF's puts them out of natural page order. RFI Reporting and Photos is too primitive.

Smartest Field Tracking Program

Ease-of-use

Functionality

Customer Support

Value for Money

The capability to take photos and measure in the field is incredibly useful as well.

Pros

I love the ease of use for new users and non-members, it is extremely easy for contractors to use. I also value the cloud-based storage and sharing, which saves time on the front-end for information dissemination, and on the back-end with report generation.

Cons

It would be great if the background/structure PDF was instead a locked CAD file, which could be unlocked and changed by the administrator of the project if necessary.

Customer Support

Value for Money

I originally purchased this product to get the plans into the hands of my field workers when we were only 200 men strong. It worked great for an entry-level program that did not cost an arm and a leg. I would say that this program works good for a small to medium size company.

Pros

Plangrid is easy to use and to get the plans to your employees in the field. I trained my men on my own and they picked it up right away.

Cons

The field report tools still need a lot of work. You have to build your team for each project. I am a Concrete sub and we have a lot of new jobs so we have an employee to just work on Plangrid input only.

Amazing Software - Great for In the Field Use!

Ease-of-use

Value for Money

It is rather expensive if you have a lot of users... still worth it but could be a little more budget friendly. But overall this is an easy way to manage plans and distribute plans and changes!

Pros

This software is great for being able to take drawings into the field and add markups as I walk the site! This makes for great notes and helps communication between the field and office or between GC and client / AE. It makes it easy to track and control revision changes throughout bid process and actual construction.

Cons

Some of the set up is rather difficult and time consuming... but worth it in the long run. There is also no way to control permissions of users, which would be a great feature!

Extremely simple UI plan viewer

Ease-of-use

Functionality

Product Quality

Customer Support

Value for Money

Pros

The benefit of this product really comes from the simplicity of it's user interface. It makes implementing a digital plan management solution extremely easy for those more tenured field users. Additionally the mobile first solution makes viewing optimized in the field on any device. Simple markups, reviewing callouts, communicating changes, and reviewing updates are made super easy.

Cons

The pricing can be steep for what is offered. This is especially true when trying to bring trades on who need viewer access only to the plans. These users must purchase a full license. Additionally they may not always need access to all the sheets, but because the licensure is setup for licenses to be based on number of sheets assigned, trades end up paying extra for things they do not need. This may make it difficult at times to get buy in from the trades on using the software.

partnership with Esub is good - build on getting more into that program as well.

Pros

ease of use- field has taken full use of this app - I have never seen the field accept an app like this. they like it because it is user friendly. customer service has been excellent. app is fast and reliable. ROI is hard to establish, but I know we are saving time..

Cons

the price as a company would be something to look at - If I have 400 people using, I would probably not want to pay that much per person per year.

Works great with ipad. Android use has had some quirks, but it seems to be improving.

Pros

Love the fact that changes can be shared on the fly to hand-held devices without having to redistribute paper drawing pages or sets. Feedback and field dimensions can be shared more quickly and efficiently than when we were working with paper sets.

Cons

Its a little pricey if some team members need only occasional use. However, there is no small group option, which makes it a little more difficult to share with sub-subcontractors.

We have had to conform our workflow to how the program operates. Consequently, things are spread out, disorganized and filled with duplicates. Issues with uploading have caused us to wonder if all our drawings are really uploaded or not; there's no time for second guessing! This program has lots of potentials it could be fantastic but currently is frustrating to use.

Pros

Automatically searches for and creates hotlinks between drawings; automatically names sheets, as well
All drawings are stored and synced in the cloud, easily shared with others, even if they don't own a subscription to PlanGid

Cons

Not all features are available in the different platforms (Online, Desktop and App versions) and you have to switch between them too frequently
Creating and managing "Version Sets" is confusing and doesn't always make sense for every drawing
Cannot comment or mark up supplemental documents; comments on sheets are hidden, no notifications are sent out when someone comments
Unable to create folders for projects. We have multiple types of drawings for each projects, and some

Very simple to use. I'm not général contractors so I don't need all the features but what I use is pretty good. I started with the hammer subscription put all my Plans and I was thinking that 50 sheets were going to be free all the time but then a received email forcing me to pay $ To upgrade to 550 sheets in the App Store. But on the website, $ gives me 5000 sheets.
I'm also using Procore so it is very easy for me to compare the app.

Pros

Like that, I can scale distance and Draw on the PDF link my attachment and photos.

Cons

I do understand why I can't zoom like in another app that open PDF.
But for me I find myself wanting to zoom just a little bit more.
And a wood uses a back button or undo button for annotations.

Great Office to Field Communication, Keeping our crews with the most current plans and documents.

Pros

What I like most about this program is how simple it is to use. My field guys HATE tech and even my most ardent anticomputer foreman uses PlanGrid easily and without (much) complaint. The software is super intuitive and easy for us on both the front and back in. Our PM's quickly load up drawings and our foremen easily access it in the field.

Cons

The cost is on the high side but I think the functionality more than makes up for it. Also each user has to have their own account, I think it would be nice if we could share accounts to keep the TCI down.

Pros

Plangrid allows us to manage and distribute plans and documents to the project management team and to the field quickly and accurately. Changes can be distributed immediately once received and processed. Questions and issues found in the field can quickly be shared and documented to the project management team with pictures and notes on the plans. Pros

How all the plans are linked together so that you can go straight from the plan view to the detail that is called out.

Cons

The reports for the punchlist could be more editable as far as the layout is concerned. There were only a few ways to sort the items

Pros

That it uploads drawings pretty quickly and users have the ability to work on other things while drawings are being uploaded/downloaded. I am also excited to use the punch list tools which generates a nice clean report.

Cons

It does not have a Search tool to have the ability to find key words and phrases. It seems like they are working on it but it would be very benificial
