## Reviews summary

- Overall rating: 3.5/5
- Total reviews: 234

### Secondary ratings

- Ease of use: 3.2/5

- Value for money: 3.1/5
- Functionality: 3.4/5

### Rating distribution

- 5 stars: 60 reviews (26%)
- 4 stars: 80 reviews (34%)
- 3 stars: 43 reviews (18%)
- 2 stars: 19 reviews (8%)
- 1 star: 32 reviews (14%)

### Most mentioned pros

- ProContractor when it works correctly, and everything integrates properly - is a useful program. Since it has the ability to hold all invoices within the program it helps to find invoices promptly.
- It has helped us properly analyze indirect costs and overhead to push that information into our bids and ensure we are bidding profitable work.
- We also do several prevailing wage jobs each year and the ease of use and setup in the system is key to helping us stay in compliance. Plus, we are able to upload directly using the XML format into the DIR Site, saving tons of time.

### Most mentioned cons

- Price increases and service, reliability has plummeted.
- Estimating (that I don't use) The ability to move estimates into Purchase Orders (that I do not use) The ability to upload pay applications from GC into PC to fill out (This was not true - actually requires a lot of money to pay someone to create a Pay App that I would be about to use with PC billing)
- Since the last update there have been glitches within the payment section, and glitches and calculation errors with zero reason behind them when running union reports. If these issues could be corrected, and everything working as it should, ProContractor would be well worth the money spent.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 2/5
- Value for money: 2/5

#### Pros

The speed of the screen is very nice but it does come at the sacrifice of the quality. The data entry for the takeoff is on par with the competition.

#### Cons

Only looking at one plan sheet at a time is very cumbersome. Also, the program has a hard time uploading roll plots.

### Great ERP for Small Contractors

Through our years of using ProContractor we have been able to begin proper job costing practices, tracking equipment cost and usage, monitor daily quantities to aid in cash forecasting. It has helped us properly analyze indirect costs and overhead to push that information into our bids and ensure we are bidding profitable work.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 3/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

The accounting aspects are very user friendly. The software has the same "feel" no matter what module you are currently using. The downfall during implementation was having an implementer who didn't understand UNIT COST budgeting and cost tracking. I had to walk her through how I wanted the software setup. Once I did that, it has worked the way I hoped it would. Her lack of understanding was a definite issue.

#### Cons

One of the biggest problems with ProContractor is within the document management. The software goes a great job of housing documents, it is just difficult to get back to them when you need them. Also, this is not a great software for larger construction projects.

#### Reasons for switching to ProContractor

Quickbooks is not capable of detailed job costing. Detailed job costing is vital in our industry.

I use this for purchase orders and subcontracts as well as their compliance. While I like there is a report that can be run to show what is out of date I would also like a reminder email so I know weekly what is falling out of compliance. It works fine overall but I have many tweaks I could suggest.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5

It's been good. I do wonder if, at some point, ProContractor would become 'Viewpoint Express' or similar, as Viewpoint seems to integrate with more 3rd party apps.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 3/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

Basic jobcosting, finance/accounting, asset management, and all other financial accounting for income statement and balance sheet utilization.

#### Cons

Making changes for new functions (time & material billings) are very involved and take too much time to implement. Almost too many options for customization.

#### Reasons for choosing ProContractor

Cost and familiarity, having been American Contractor users previous to Accubuild.

#### Reasons for switching to ProContractor

Accubuild could not produce basic income statements, balance sheets, or jobcosting reports. It was a software program with little to no support. Ownership could not backup what they promised and became unresponsive.

My experience with ProContractor has gotten better over the years, however I still feel like there are many things that don't flow easily. Project accounting and Work in Process is very manual. There aren't great notifying features for analytics on job performance. Teaching the system is extremely tinkery and customer support in my opinion has been poor.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 2/5
- Value for money: 3/5

#### Pros

How every section is the same format, so once you figure out the system it is somewhat repetitive.

#### Cons

The number of button clicks it takes to input an invoice. The inability to program a few things while entering a visa statement to keep the company and account number the same. Not being able to use dashes in project number.

Our overall use with ProContractor is a positive one.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 5/5

ProContractor is critical for our company, we use the accounting software every day to manage invoicing, pay bills, and keep track of payments. Plus, we are able to upload directly using the XML format into the DIR Site, saving tons of time.

ProContractor has helped up get a better idea of the material quantities we will need for a project. This is excellent for job budgeting. Although it is limited in its features, it does provide us with a good baseline for what to expect on an Earthwork project.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 2/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

ProContractor is relatively easy to use. I have been using this product for many years.

#### Cons

What it is capable of for the annual subscription price is very lopsided now. It used to be much more reasonable but in recent years the price increases don't seem to be justifiable. The product has only changed slightly over the years but the price just keeps growing. Especially after being forced to only use digital plans vs the digitizer boards. The owners are retiring and selling in a couple of years, its the only reason we are not looking into other options.

#### Reasons for choosing ProContractor

When we first started with ProContractor (Quest) 19 years ago, there were not many options for small businesses. It gave us the baseline for our upcoming projects and as a growing business it was vital.

The price for this program is not worth the product you pay for! Also, its pretty bad when you have a payroll tax issue that you cant figure out so, you contact customer service and they give you an order number for them to call you back. OK.... when you have an issue with payroll tax, you don't have time to wait a couple days for them to call you to resolve the issue. So, when they did call me back they could NOT figure out why the taxes in ProContractor did what it did. They were totally baffled and could not figure it out!! So, for the first 2 payrolls of the new year (2017) i had to calculate (by hand) what the taxes would be and i entered that with a journal entry. Very very disappointed with this product.

#### Ratings breakdown

#### Pros

Tracking change orders would be the only think worth talking about. I do like that! But ...... That is it!! I don't have 100 characters to LIKE about this program as it is asking me before continuing the final step.

#### Cons

I am totally disappointed with this program. I would NOT recommend it to anyone. This is not a good construction program for a contractor that does Utility work.

#### Vendor response

Hi, Kaelonnie. Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback about ProContractor. We are sorry that your experience with the software has been so difficult. While we’re glad to hear that the change order tracking feature is working well for you, we want to ensure that you’re getting all the value possible from the product. We will reach out to better understand the issues you’re having in detail. We really hope you’ll give us the chance to work with you to help make ProContractor the kind of valuable tool for your business that our other utility contractor customers have found it to be.

Pro Contractor has a lot of bells and whistles if you are willing to cough up the high cost. It can be very cumbersome to navigate to the information you need. Customer support is pretty good I must say when it comes to getting problems solved. It utilizes a very old system that gets updated too infrequently especialy on the takeoff side. There are just programs that do it better and faster.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 2/5
- Value for money: 3/5

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 4/5

#### Pros

#### Cons

WIP needs improvement because it's very date sensitive. Management reports that track the same as WIP (i.e. include change orders and related costs) between budget & actual. Highlight reports when a job is having trouble or is fading. Having to click on the "..." all the time is time consuming.
