Buildertrend is the most asked-about Procore alternative on Software Advice. It is primarily intended for home builders and remodelers. Like Procore, it is a cloud-based solution that works on all platforms and offers apps for Android, Windows and iOS mobile devices.

The Buildertrend mobile app enables users in the field to share project updates in real time and attach photographs of the construction progress. The solution sends automatic text messages to subcontractors regarding their to-dos, schedule shifts and other notifications.

Buildertrend’s core features include the following:

  • Pre-sales tools (custom lead integration, automatic email marketing, quick bids and proposals)
  • Project management tools (scheduling, budgeting and time sheets)
  • Customer management tools (change order and selection management, payment processing and warranty requests)
  • Document and photo management

Buildertrend is one of the most popular solutions on the market and was the recipient of Constructech’s Top Products award in 2015. It also offers integrations with many third-party apps such as Xero, Quickbooks, Facebook, Pinterest and PayPal.

User reviews on Software Advice call out Buildertrend’s breadth of features offered and its user-friendly interface. They also note that areas for improvement include calendar updating, photo printing, adding notes to the budget and smoother syncing of documents from and to the cloud.

PlanGrid was built natively for mobile devices and is another frequently asked-about Procore alternative on Software Advice. It is a cloud-based document management and collaboration platform that can accessed on iOS, Android and Windows devices. The solution is recommended by 95 percent of Software Advice users.

PlanGrid enables real-time communication between companies and their onsite employees, architects and contractors. The solution uploads master plans to the cloud and enables users to make changes both online and offline. Users can also add plan sheets, view original plans, check older versions and review notes and markups.

PlanGrid also offers automatic version control, facility management, RFIs and photo management. It also provides virtual and onsite consulting that companies can leverage to analyze their workflows, receive project advice and develop standards for implementing PlanGrid.

On the downside, PlanGrid does not offer any third-party integrations and restricts the number of plan sheets that can be uploaded on the cloud (550 sheets for the Nailgun plan and 5,000 sheets for the Dozer plan). Once users reach their limit, they will be unable to use the app unless they upgrade to the next plan or to Crane, which is the unlimited sheets plan.

Prolog has been offering construction project management solutions since 1993. It helps automate the construction process, sort and store all files into a single, integrated database and generate audit tracking for documents. Other features include cost control, file management, document control, purchasing, field administration and anytime access to reports and material tracking. This solution offers desktop, web and mobile apps for iOS and Windows devices.

Prolog’s open technology platform helps facilitate team collaboration and data sharing within existing systems. Users can work in both online or offline mode in the office or in the field and send timely updates to avoid any project delays. They also have the flexibility to access project data on Excel and submit RFIs via Outlook. The solution provides building information model capabilities and can integrate with other third-party systems.

Reviewers on Software Advice note that Prolog offers many important features for their construction needs. However, some downsides include an outdated iPad app, lack of an iPhone app, a complex user interface and a steep learning curve.

Prolog is offered as an on-premise, web-enabled or web-based solution. It is ideal for firms that have project budgets of under $100 million. Prolog is available in Australia, Canada, the United Arab Emirates, the U.K. and the U.S.

Top User-Rated Procore Alternatives

Our second category of Procore alternatives showcases highly rated construction products on Software Advice. Procore has a user rating of 4.3 out of 5 stars and 442 reviews.

As the top user-rated Procore alternative and one of the most reviewed solutions on Software Advice, Co-construct offers project, financial and client management tools for custom-home builders and remodelers. It has a 4.7 rating out of 5, with high ratings in all three categories—ease of use, functionality and customer support—and 467 user reviews. An advantage for builders is that they pay only for the projects that are currently under construction.

A key feature of the solution is a single-entry estimating system that enables users to add information for bids, budgets, change orders, estimations, selections and specifications to avoid creating duplicate entries. The solution also integrates with QuickBooks to further enable this functionality.

Co-construct is a web-based solution that is compatible with Android, iOS and Windows mobile devices and ideal for freelancers and SMBs. It offers support in Australia, Canada, the U.K. and the U.S.

Users on Software Advice say they like Co-construct’s user-friendly interface and short learning curve, and recommend it highly. However, they add that the solution needs to enable uploading photos to its activities list as well as the ability to upload more than one document at a time.

Owner InSite

Owner InSite is the next highest-rated Procore alternative with 4.6 stars and recommended by 80 percent of users. It offers both project management and accounting solutions and enables project managers to run audit trails for each item used and track RFIs, submittals and issues. It also helps companies keep their projects organized; once a project is completed, firms can create a hard copy record by burning the completed project to a CD.

Software Advice reviewers note that Owner InSite’s user-friendly interface and customer support are above par in the construction management software industry. One of the solution’s key features is that it sends vital information and milestones directly to users’ email addresses, keeping everyone updated about the construction progress. Areas for improvement, meanwhile, include the addition of an approval process for specific team members and alerts for overdue RFIs and submissions.

Owner InSite is ideal for mid- and large-size companies. It offers four types of plans that users can select based on their budget and needs:

  • Single: Offers a single project license for up to five users and one feature (users can choose either RFIs, daily field reports, safety inspection reports, submittals, punch lists or an issue tracker).
  • Basic: Offers single or multiple projects license for unlimited users, all of the features from the Single plan and enables email support and annual access.
  • Advanced: Offers all features from the Basic plan and is the most popular plan.
  • Elite: Offers all features from the Advanced plan and is intended for school districts, universities and capital construction projects.
