This software does almost everything
Amazing, I use it for everything residential without Fail, nothing beats this software when it come to Residential Roofing
Pros
I can estimate any Residential roof with ease and precision
Cons
This program doesn't handle Large scale products too well, Commercial and Industrial type estimating needs more attention by the Developers to work efficiently (this can be done with precision but is not very efficient in terms of time taken). Wall Cladding Needs a lot of work to work efficiently

Response from AppliCad

The Best Roof Estimating Software our there!
Pros
Roofwizard is a great program! It is based on the universally wellknown autocad platform and catered to the roofing market. modeling and modifying is simplified for even a basic user. and the training provided by AppliCad both onsite and online breaks down using the software into an easy to understand format. The modeling capabilities of the software combined with the software's capability to be used with multiple other software formats and the willingness of the Applicad folks to to help make their software best work for you gives this program nearly unlimited potential for multiple facets.
Cons
As a US user, some of the standard formatting seems to get a bit jumbled when converting from metric. Seems like some of input going out to the 3rd or 4th decimal gets lost in translation. Also, things that might be considered "Default" settings are scattered about the software sometimes making them difficult to diagnose. Defaults also seem to follow the .dab file they are attached to rather than adjust the defaults of the .dab file to your machine. Could be incorrect there.

Worth it if you invest the time
Pros
Comprehensive take off system, that is very accurate. Absolutely love Block Cutting and the ability to show Contractors where certain roofing needs to go.
Cons
To set up correctly takes ages, and to set up correctly you need more than and entry level knowledge of computers, also if you don't have knowledge of how a long run roof goes together (off cuts flipping over and going to opposite of hip etc), well you need that knowledge, unless you're using it to just to get a Square Metre rate. In the age of instant gratification it's not instantly user friendly. If the set up could be streamlined in some way, it would go a long way... Honestly the set up is the biggest thing.

Roof wizard and Team Hamilton
Pros
Roof Wizard can do anything you want it to, It's only limited by the user.....Applicad has excellent customer service, support & back up. If you find yourself struggling all that's needed is a call or email and POW!!! problem sorted!! Team Hamilton have been using Applicad's suite of products for over 10 years. Roof Wizard & Warlock (for walls / siding) have now been merged / combined into one powerful package.
Cons
It has some steep learning curves but Michael Schumacher didn't get in his F1 and scorch the tarmac first time either, hey?

Ian from Dynamic Bradview Roofing
Pros
If you're in the roofing business and your not using Roof Wizard you're not in the roofing business, this software does it all from preparing the quote for the client to material and work orders. In the 15 years I have been using Roof Wizard I have not found a roof that cannot be accurately & quickly modelled, from there it all just flows.
Cons
I have not found any major problems using Roof Wizard when there are minor glitches the customer support is both friendly and helpful.

Excellent Software
Pros
This is one of the most powerful software on the market. The ease with which it tackles roofs is incredible. This has reduced our Quotation time, and improved accuracy of all material supplied.
Cons
Personally not a lot, only user limitations.

Response from AppliCad
Thanks Charl. We do our best to produce the best software for your business. Appreciate the kind words. We have certainly done some amazing stuff with our software in recent years, all due to input from our customers all over the world.

Great Pricing Programme
Pros
We like the product as it provides an accurate & quick estimate, Once the drawings have been completed, every thing else to produce the quotation/estimate, has fairly well been done, just whip the price off to the customer.
Cons
The thing I like least is the amount of training involved, having said that, once trained properly the product is powerful and fast to use

Great estimating sofware
Pros
The ease of this software is incredible. Once you model the building it's a snap to produce a report. If you have problem in an area, YouTube is just a bookmark away with the answers.
Cons
Setting up the materials is probably the worst part. Like anything, the prep is always the toughest. But once it's done you'll have a great estimating tool.

Great experience, quick and efficient.
Pros
Easy take-offs from digital files or overhead pictures. Dead accurate material order lists, includes every piece, screw, flashing, etc. Makes it easy to quote very different materials at one time.
Cons
A little bit of a learning curve, but once you get a handle on it, you'll find it's easier to model the job then to bother with the calculator.

Excellent tool for both calculating exact costs and for a professional presentation in your quotation
Pros
I know what it will cost me to do the job, there is no more guessing of what materials I will need i have the exact quantities
Cons
The amount of work to set up the program at the start can be a bit cumbersome especially if you are doing metal roofing

Love the Wizard
Pros
Accuracy. Been using it for over 20 years - love the wizard... Lots of others around that can estimate. The Roof Wizard is capable of mm accuracy. I can do a plan to exact measurements, send the quote, when it's accepted i only have to check the building to see if it has been changed from the plans. If the building is as per plan the sheet lengths and flashings will be bang on. Makes ordering the materials very quick. Also, the plans for the installers are clear and easy to follow. They also know what the job is worth and how it was calculated. So from the model off the plan, right through to the invoice for the customer all in the one application.
Cons
Learning it takes time. Setting it up for your business also takes time.

Buyer Beware
Pros
The software can draw any type of Roof area. No matter how complex.
Cons
The problem is, it will take the user hundred of hours to learn the software. I went to the training class and was very discouraged after completion of the class. I have been in the Roofing for 24 years and have owned and operated 5 different estimating software. I have college degree and have been using cad programs since there they came on the market 30 years ago. But this software requires the user to spend several hundred hours on it before user will be able to use it properly. The point is, a good software will allow the user to pick-up the needed skills to use software in a short period of time. That is impossible with Applicad.
