### Most mentioned pros

- Viewpoint Spectrum serves as a reliable, secure backbone for our commercial construction operations. While we still rely on specialized third-party tools for our drawing markups and daily communication workflows, Spectrum easily handles the heavy lifting for our financial pipelines—from initial job costing to final billing. Despite occasional delays with customer support and a bit of a learning curve, the platform's robust security protocols, comprehensive payment tracking, and overall ROI make it an essential asset for managing large-scale contracting workflows.
- I love the access that it gives to a PM - you can see everything down to the check # and date that was sent to a vendor or subcontractors, it will even tell you if their check has cleared.
- Being on the HR/Payroll side, we like the reporting ability for the ever changing requirements with all the different types of construction jobs.

### Most mentioned cons

- Even with option of pulling your own reports using queries, it's very difficult to determine where to find the relevant data and sometimes the relevant data isn't even part of the system.
- One task that should take 1-2 minutes ends up taking 10 min due to reversals and re-entering. When paying vendors, instead of paying within the vendor, you are forced to another generic screen and enter all pertinent information again to enter the payment.
- We usually have already completed or have the knowledge offer in training for new modules, but it's like the training never goes more in depth and we are left to figure the rest out AND we had to pay for the training for the expensive module we just purchased.

### Solid Financial Backbone for Heavy Civil Contractors

Overall, my experience has been highly productive. Viewpoint Spectrum serves as a reliable, secure backbone for our commercial construction operations.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

When managing heavy civil and grading contracts, the invoicing and billing and payments functionalities are where Viewpoint Spectrum truly shines. It handles complex progress billing, subcontractor pay applications, and cost-to-complete tracking for large-scale excavation projects with ease. Additionally, the security framework is top-tier; having granular, role-based permissions gives absolute peace of mind when managing sensitive compliance records, multi-state licensing data, and corporate financials. Because it centralizes so much of the back-office workload and database management into one enterprise system, it delivers excellent value for money for a commercial general contractor.

#### Cons

While the accounting side is rock-solid, the drawing and design document management features leave something to be desired. The native tools feel rigid and do not replace the need for dedicated markup and workflow automation software like Bluebeam Revu when reviewing complex heavy infrastructure plans. Furthermore, the email and communication logging within the system isn't as seamless as it could be; tying external correspondence to specific project phases requires too many manual steps and clicks. Finally, while the customer support team is generally helpful, wait times for resolving advanced technical or database configuration tickets can sometimes take longer than expected during peak hours.

Our experience with Spectrum has been great. The support is excellent. Help is always available in the way of courses and the knowledge center. We like that Trimble is always trying to improve the product so it functions as accurately as possible to drive sound business decisions.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

We love the instant visibility that the software provides. We can run job cost or profitability reports quickly so we know how our projects are going. Being able to customize reports has been very beneficial as well.

#### Cons

It can be hard to customize reports if you don't know Crystal Reports. As analytics is built out I think that will make it easier to customize the data.

#### Reasons for choosing Viewpoint Spectrum

It was Dexter and Chaney at the time that we selected the software. We chose it because we liked the simplicity of the site map and the favorites bar as well as the job cost and work order management.

#### Reasons for switching to Viewpoint Spectrum

It was only used by accounting with no visibility by our PM's. Unless accounting printed reports for them they could not see anything useful to track the progress of their projects.

### The Depth of Spectrum

Overall, Spectrum is a very good software. We just feel there are areas there could be improvement. Spectrum is vast and has so much potential.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 3/5
- Customer support: 2/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

I like the depth and detail of Spectrum. For example, most software does not separate jobs and work orders or at least to the extent of Spectrum and it keeps things so much more organized and efficient. I also handled lots of payables during my time using Spectrum, and I feel overall accounting wise it is very beneficial and makes invoicing easy and it's easy to see what we need to research in open payables. We've never had any security issues which is a plus and the format and design of Spectrum is very appealing while working.

#### Cons

One of our company's biggest grievances with Spectrum is that the customer support is not the greatest. Not sure if this is due to the volume of customer's or what, but there have been times where we are told we are the only customer to ever have an issue we've had and are not able to offer much insight. Another thing I don't particularly like is how expensive Spectrum is especially to add additional modules. When adding additional modules there isn't much help as far as set up as well. We usually have already completed or have the knowledge offer in training for new modules, but it's like the training never goes more in depth and we are left to figure the rest out AND we had to pay for the training for the expensive module we just purchased.

### Viewpoint Spectrum Accounting Software - adequate but outdated

It is an adequate software with some good and some bad features. Support was great when I started here 10 years ago, very personal and hands on. That is not necessarily the case now. Reporting has always been lacking in many areas, especially payroll and accounts payable. Even with option of pulling your own reports using queries, it's very difficult to determine where to find the relevant data and sometimes the relevant data isn't even part of the system.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 2/5
- Customer support: 2/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

It's adequate for basic job cost accounting. Menus are fairly easy to navigate and most data entry tasks are straightforward.

#### Cons

We consider Viewpoint Spectrum as our document storage repository as it has a good document imaging 'cabinet' system that is very customizable to fit our needs. However, recently the images have degraded substantially, to the point that some are unreadable, even when exported out of the software. Support has not been very helpful with this issue, basically stating that reports downloaded from the software have to be saved as 'flattened' images and then re-uploaded to Spectrum, which doesn't always correct the issue. Not the kind of answer we are looking for! Also, when what we believe to be simple enhancements are shot down because the original coding that the software is built on can't be updated, it's very disheartening. This should be a red flag to anyone thinking of starting with this software now.

My experience has been relatively positive from the system implementation point of view. However, I do recognize challenges of our end users.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 3/5

#### Pros

Job Cost. This module is the most robust of the modules. The thought given to building it out is obvious. The job analysis page is very useful. The AIA billing functionality is impressive

#### Cons

Controls lacking. Would like to see more robust control features regarding turning off user access. Some of the terminology and naming convention could better aligned with common terminology in accounting and construction. for instance, the WIP report, Reports, cost codes, use alternative names in Spectrum. The reasoning has never been really clear. It does cause users to stumble when adopting Spectrum as a new ERP. Customer Support often takes a week to address support tickets. TC1 could work better. I do not understand why I would still need to enter a passkey after entering my password. This is redundant and annoying.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 3/5
- Customer support: 4/5

#### Pros

I think Spectrum is easy to learn and I like the steps to help in processing payroll. I like that there are a lot of learning modules to help with using Spectrum. I appreciate the year end processing webinars, they are a great refresher for those once a year procedures.

#### Cons

I do not like the reports, I would like there to be options to create and save custom reports with only the information you need. This would be especially helpful when creating files to upload to the various tax and unemployment/ worker's comp entities. I am not a fan of the tax override screen, it can be a bit confusing it caused me to withhold only the extra amount because I entered it incorrectly.

I have used Viewpoint Spectrum for over 30 years, and it helped grow many businesses over the years in all facets of the industry. We used it at one specialty contractor to become the #1 utility contractor in the U.S. Used properly, it is truly a strategic asset that puts your company back under your control.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

As a construction-specific ERP program, it is very flexible and gives you the all the information you need to run your construction company without extra customization. It is especially good for specialty contractors where tracking and managing productivity is critical. Additionally, as an accounting program at its core, Spectrum enables it you to keep track of the enterprise(s) using sound accounting principles. If the Controller gets lost, then the company is lost, and the internal controls and reporting make it very easy to get on track, stay on track, and supply audit proof.

#### Cons

I keep accepting promo calls from our cable provider thinking it may be Viewpoint calling. Our cable provider is Spectrum.

#### Reasons for choosing Viewpoint Spectrum

Met our needs better than other software.

#### Reasons for switching to Viewpoint Spectrum

SAGE was inadequate for our growth plans.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5

#### Pros

What I like most about Spectrum is the consistency across the system. Whether working in A/R, A/P, Payroll or Inventory the system is consistent and accessing the data is easily understandable.

#### Cons

The hosting environment. I'm old school and prefer to host our system in-house. Also, there is a standard report that pulls bad data.

We use many of Viewpoint Spectrum's modules: AP, AR, GL, HR, Job Cost, PR and we do extensive reporting. We have a lot of audit requirements. Viewpoint Spectrum makes it reasonably easy to provide all of the required documentation.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5

#### Pros

Viewpoint Spectrum is intuitive and easy to use. The ability to limit user access keeps complexity in check. It is set up to accommodate a variety of internal controls and the segregation of duties. We have a complicated organization of companies, and Viewpoint Spectrum allows applicable users to access various companies with ease.

#### Cons

I wish it listed GL account numbers on the Job Cost reports. Otherwise, I really have no complaints.

The implementation of the software was frustrating at best. High costs to get basic training to implement the software that should have been included in the purchase price. The Service Tech application has been nothing but aggravating. Notes are lost, labor hours are lost. It has taken months to get the app working correctly, but still issues arise which cause payroll issues. Running payroll is over complicated and the minimal training we have received was not efficient to learn it properly. Now that things are settled, and our data is all inputted to Spectrum, we are running a lot smoother. The staff that uses the software is trained to be able to use 75% of the software. There are many features we do not use due to lack of training and the features not being user friendly or at an additional cost. On the positive side, invoices are going out smoothly, posting AP, payments, and cash receipts are going well.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

The ease of invoicing. AP invoices are instantly attached to a job or work order and the labor and notes carry over from the Service Tech App. It's nice to have all the charges already ready to be reviewed and invoiced. We do appreciate the real-time availability of the data. We can leave one site map open with data already entered and then we can open a new site map to add or change information. This allows us to not have to delete and start over on the original site map. We like the ability to be able to attach documents.

#### Cons

The implementation of the software was frustrating at best. High costs to get basic training to implement the software. The Service Tech application has been nothing but aggravating. Notes are lost, labor hours are lost. It has taken months to get the app working correctly, but still issues arise which cause payroll issues. Access to the work order/reports/labor report is terrible. Once the data is pulled to payroll it is not possible to pull the technician's time. There is no other report we can pull to send the guys to verify their hours.

#### Reasons for choosing Viewpoint Spectrum

Recommended by the electrical industry as the standard software.

Started at this company, where the system was set up incorrectly, and not a single module could pull proper reports due to the set up. I had paid for trainings that end up without being fully trained on the modules because the set up was so wrong it did not function and the spectrum accounting processes could not function and be completed. 6 months in, and over 15,000.00 in additional trainings and partial audit of our system and still cannot complete period end process, quarter end process, or be fully trained to a properly working system. Every time I contact support, I get a response of [sensitive content hidden]. Support just directs you to the "help" files which I have already read through and they don't help, which is why I contacted them.. Tickets are also closed before a resolution.I have been trying to fix mistakes and correct the past 2 years of accounting errors and spectrum is not user friendly when errors are made that need to be corrected. You also cannot just call the past the past and move on with a fresh start for a new year, since all the reporting ties together. You have to go back and try to find every single issue (which I stated before spectrum doesn't easily let you research and find errors, especially when you are not exactly sure how the system was set up and changed multiple times in the past)

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 1/5
- Value for money: 1/5
- Functionality: 1/5

#### Pros

Haven't found any pros of the system compared to other systems used.

#### Cons

Highly dislike all accounting functions as it is not user friendly and you have to do 10x more clicks and entries just to do one simple task. Cannot find reports easily, and cannot just search a transaction, or do a quick look up for something within the entire system. You have to physically do way more work and go through every single module to find what you are looking for, then typically it has vanished and not there.. Spent 8 hours trying to find one simple discrepancy and with help from the trainer, still cannot find the error. The system is not efficient and wastes company time and money.

#### Reasons for choosing Viewpoint Spectrum

Empty broken promises from [sensitive content hidden] who was actually our trainer and who set up our system. If what happened to us continues to happen as is will since he is still a 3rd party trainer promoting your company, there will be many more bad reviews coming your way.

#### Reasons for switching to Viewpoint Spectrum

Pretty much your sales people really know how to sell.. The [sensitive content hidden] wanted to grow the business and wanted a fully functional working system.

Our initial set up did not go smoothly at all and we were very unhappy. Once we got things set up correctly for our use, we really like it. We are familiar with the data entry, reporting and more advanced options now and it works great for us! Now that we are set up and have some custom reports, things are good!

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 1/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

Once things were set up properly for us, it is fairly easy to use. Running reports is easy and the job costing works well for us.

#### Cons

Customer service is terrible! Response time is slow and the help feature doesn't provide much guidance. I used the help feature more often in the past but, after one of the recent updates, it doesn't help me much at all. The other "Con" would be custom reports. We were surprised by how many reports we needed to customize for every day information.

#### Reasons for switching to Viewpoint Spectrum

It was really outdated and more functional for accounting, but not so much for job costing/reporting.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5

- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

The features that I find most impactful is the ability to not only use "canned" reports but to customize reports to our needs. Real-time information all day, all the time. Being cloud based means that everyone on Construction management has real-time data of the same information, whether in the field or in the office and everyone can communicate using this real-time data. This allows for trouble-shooting and prevention of overruns more efficiently. Field management with mobile users allows for the most current project information to be uploaded into Spectrum at any moment. This ability to have current information at any time allows for better analytics.

#### Cons

Being able to do comparative reports over years. There are no reports that allow for jobs or financials to be viewed and compared over multiple years. Also, being able to pull customer historical data over 3 - 5 year period for Projects and various Industries worked in for bids.

#### Vendor response

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review, Susan. We really appreciate your feedback!

We have not had a great experience with Spectrum from the initial sale, where we were told its capabilities in multi-company interchange, and found out it was untrue, and wanted us to pay a huge amount for this capability. Technical support is terrible where you have to sometimes wait for weeks to get an answer. I don't know when the last time I got an answer the same day, but with our other software we do.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 2/5
- Customer support: 1/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

The import data feature utilizing Excel is a really good system. It does what an ERP system should do, so it gets the job done, not the most efficient but it works.

#### Cons

This system is very click heavy and not streamlined. You have to click multiple times to get anything done, even though there is not reason to have to have extra clicks. Screen displays from on area are not consistent in another (some you enter up front info to see the input/edit screen, others the input/edit is displayed and is allowable when you enter the required information). It is not always intuitive for each module on where to go to get the information you are looking for. Many of the standard reports are really not helpful or complete as our last ERP system. Payroll Tax reports for state and federal requirements are not available unless you pay for custom reports at a very high premium rate. If you write reports using Crystal Reports or SQL, trying to find the correct fields and tables are difficult at best, I spend a lot of time in trial and error trying to find the right table and fields, other ERP systems I have used have an option that you can hover over any field in the display to see the table and field used. Not every table has an option to import changed data into the system, if something was entered/imported incorrectly (for instance they use a 2 digit year for equipment model year, upon import if you used a 4 digit year, they do not fail the import or warn you, they take the first 2-digits of the year, and after the fact you cannot modify the data except by hand). There are quite a few tables like this that you cannot change after the fact.

Spectrum bought StreetSmarts and discontinued its use and support, so we had to switch, not by choice

I never made it through implementation. Our "consultant" was constantly rescheduling, unavailable, on a trip to some other state. The "project managers" love to schedule useless meetings at a rate of $250 an hour. You will be required to buy "Crystal Reports" to make your own invoice templates or have the consultant do it at $250 an hour. This wasn't disclosed to us. The implementation was extremely difficult. The modules are very hard to use and have way too many features that are not used. Tax deductions in payroll were not correct after several attempts to get them correct. The answer was always to update the payroll deductions file which you also have to do manually. When I asked to end the contract after 2 years even though we signed for 3 because it wasn't working out they said "Too bad" and sent us to collections for a third year of use even though we never even got up and running on the project. A $60 to $80K mistake for our company that is now struggling to make payroll because of it. Highly recommend NOT using Viewpoint Spectrum.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 1/5
- Value for money: 1/5
- Customer support: 2/5
- Functionality: 2/5

#### Pros

Not a Lot. It was hard to use, expensive, hard to implement. Customer service is none existent during implementation and otherwise.

#### Cons

Expensive, Hard to use, doesn't eliminate other programs because their modules aren't that great in some cases.

#### Reasons for choosing Viewpoint Spectrum

I made a huge mistake

#### Reasons for switching to Viewpoint Spectrum

Was hoping for something that would get rid of many programs and bring everything under 1 roof. It did not do that. Almost had to do more excel work once we had set up most of the modules.

### As a 35 year Accountant - I would not recommend this software

I just started a new position with a company that uses Spectrum and I am not happy with the program. I was not here when this system was selected or set up and waste a lot of time trying to guess at where to get information. Terms that are used for accounting tasks are not accounting terms. Your help articles are not helpful. When I submit cases for help - I get vague answers and screen shots of the help articles, not a helpful person that understands the accounting issues that I am asking. I have been a Controller for 15 years. If it was that easy - I would not be asking for your assistance.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 1/5
- Value for money: 2/5
- Customer support: 2/5
- Functionality: 1/5

#### Pros

The job cost abilities and progress billing functions look good.

#### Cons

The reports are not download friendly. The AP invoice dates and the month end close processes are just awful. And if there is a way to send AR invoices / billings from the system, I have not found that. But there should be. Do you have any idea how much extra time is spend downloading billings and emailing them to the customers? This system is basic and does not address current accounting guidelines and processes.

Overall, the information gathering processes are quite involved leading me to believe that a small company can grow to be a larger company without the need of changing the software.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 3/5
- Customer support: 2/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

The reports are laid out very professionally making them easy to understand and useful in making decisions.

#### Cons

I was not involved in the implementation of the product and, as a result, I found the initial setup of the general ledger is way too detailed for an operation of this size. Consequently, the financial statements are very much overblown with insignificant details. The management of the business could function a lot simpler with 40% less effort.

#### Reasons for switching to Viewpoint Spectrum

American Contractor was phasing out of business.

The system is strong but it could be more consistent. Training is touch for new employees because of the multiple steps and inconsistencies between modules. Ability to store documents and records is the true benefit.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 1/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

System is purposeful and structured. Users need to understand and follow all of the steps in a process, which sometimes at the beginning seem difficult. However overtime with an increased level of understanding the system becomes the system of record. Our favourite feature in our office is decreased reliance on paper. Our AP, cash management and AR departments are all paperless!

#### Cons

Spectrum could make things earlier by having consistency between modules. There is currently inconsistently between the AP and AR modules. Consistency would be very helpful especially when learning the system. Help desk - we have incurred thousands of dollars using our implementation subcontractor to help identify fixes to issues. The help desk for months didn't answer the phone and unless your payroll wasn't being released there was no phone call back. Their sales brochure shows 'world class' support department. This non-level of service will cost you money.

#### Reasons for choosing Viewpoint Spectrum

Project costing, revenue module.

#### Reasons for switching to Viewpoint Spectrum

We outgrew quickbooks.

Good. For the most part, help is readily available when problems occur. Sometimes we need instantaneous answers and that doesn't happen

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

Overall this software is very good. Viewing and sharing documentation is relatively easy.

#### Cons

Projections need to be more easily updated. When current cost exceeds previous projections, it should be added to total projection rather than showing as a negative projected remaining cost. Purchase Order module needs to produce signable documents.

#### Vendor response

Hi Marlene, Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. We greatly appreciate your feedback!

### Spectrum is not a great solution.

I haven't solved any problems with Spectrum, only created them. My life will be harder and my job will be more difficult. Anytime I've asked to incorporate a feature, I've been told it can't be done and it's up to us to adjust our processes.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 2/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

Our accounting department likes Viewpoint Spectrum. They like the all-in-one job cost integration it provides.

#### Cons

Coming from the Operations side of the business, managing contracts and change orders, Spectrum makes everything more complicated than our previous system. Everything requires completing multiple screens and moving through multiple sections. I find there is no all-in-one capability. I can't even see PO's and sub-contracts on the same screen so my PM's don't see their total job commitment at a glance. I also can't get original and revised sub contract amts for the job on one screen.

#### Reasons for choosing Viewpoint Spectrum

I was not involved in the decision.

#### Reasons for switching to Viewpoint Spectrum

All in one integration and cost.
