- Functionality: 4.6/5

### Rating distribution

- 3 stars: 573 reviews (3%)
- 2 stars: 72 reviews (0%)
- 1 star: 43 reviews (0%)

### Most mentioned pros

- I appreciate that it functions as a comprehensive, centralized communications hub—it simplifies my daily life to have reliable international messaging, high-quality voice calls, and stable video calls all within a single, free application.
- I also really like that I can have WhatsApp Business on my phone as a separate app with a separate phone number at the same time as the regular WhatsApp app, which allows me to keep work and private conversations separate.
- The platform allows us to quickly share documents, answer questions, and provide timely updates while maintaining efficient communication across different regions.

### Most mentioned cons

- The app can also experience occasional bugs, notification delays, or connectivity issues, especially during updates. While it works for basic project management, it lacks advanced organization and task management features compared to dedicated collaboration apps.
- What I least like about WhatsApp is how you can only log into from one device, and how it depends on user's current cloud storage platform, making it difficult to maintain all your conversations and data when changing platforms.
- Some features, like customizing chats or managing media, feel a bit limited compared to other messaging apps. And if your phone dies or you switch devices, restoring backups can sometimes be slower or more annoying than you’d expect.

Love it and it keeps my business in line. I do travel all around the world and so it is a nice feature. I wish somehow that it is automatic for everyone to be on the app if you have a cell phone.

#### Ratings breakdown

#### Pros

Ease of the app and you can take it everywhere. I have several professional groups that we communicate together. We can all communicate and the safety of the app is wonderful.

#### Cons

It does take up my data on my phone. It would be wonderful to condense photos and videos or a way to offload some items so its available at a later date if needed but not the whole app.

My overall experience with WhatsApp has been very good. I have been using it for many years to communicate with my family, friends, and colleagues. It is easy to use and works well for messaging, voice calls, video calls, and sharing files. The app is reliable and secure because of end-to-end encryption. Although there are a few minor issues, it is still one of the best communication apps available. I would recommend WhatsApp to anyone looking for a simple and dependable messaging platform.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

Whatsapp is a reliable messaging platform that enables communication across the globe. It gives us high quality voice and video calls, quick file sharing and secure end to end encrypeted Chat conversations. The bugs and issues are less compared to other platforms.

#### Cons

WhatsApp is a very useful app but sometimes messages are delayed when the internet connection is weak. The app also takes up more storage over time because of photos and videos. Some updates change the layout, which takes time to get used to. More options to manage storage would improve the overall experience.

### Easy and intuitive communications at face value, but with some privacy questions*

- Product usage: Used daily for more than 2 years
- Reviewed: April 2026

My overall experience is that whatsapp is an excellent tool for casual use outside of professional environments - although sometimes may have niche uses within a business context (providing a universal method of contact outside of formal channels, or for a quick 'ad-hoc' way to share sensitive information where impersonation or interception may be a concern). Sharing media between family and friends is simple, fast and independent of platform restrictions (eg. android/iphone emoji's not mapping across in SMS) thanks to it's universal interface. With all said however; If strong security and data anonymity is a priority then I would advise caution, given how tightly data and metadata seem to be embedded in Meta's infrastructure.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 2/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

Whatsapp does a good job at getting the core functionality right without overcomplicating it; There's no barrier to entry, no confusing features or addons, and the interface is modern and intuitive. It hosts a standardised library of media (Gifs, emojis, etc) that maps across to most platforms (apple, android, microsoft) universally. From a security standpoint, it provides end to end encryption, and features like hidden chats/archiving and disappearing messages help reduce the risk of sensitive content lingering in plain sight (bank details, passwords, etc).

#### Cons

To flip the benefits on their head; it's greatest Pro is also one of it's downfalls. Being a simple chat app means there's no plugin ecosystem, no third party modules and no way to meaningfully extend the core interface (Unless reviewing business API's, which seems unlikely given the target market for Whatsapp is more of a 'casual' demographic). Alternatives in a business setting far exceed whatsapp in said settings, allowing for automations, advanced workflows and integrations with other tools; Teams, Slack, Discord - to name a few. From a dedicated security standpoint, the end to end encryption is strong, but it still collects rich metadata and ties that to Meta's global infrastructure, which understandably raises questions about data-sovereignty and long-term control over who has access to that data.

#### Reasons for switching to WhatsApp

Whatsapp doesnt require a social media account or profile - just a phone number, so it's simpler for every day comms. It also comes preinstalled on most devices, or is easy enough to install and navigate. Additionally it reduces the 'noise' and unnecessary clutter in feature-heavy apps, so the experience stays clean and intuitive.

WhatsApp is a powerful and secure tool for staying connected with others, especially internationally. It offers messaging services for free, and is not difficult to navigate at all. However, it does have minor caveats like filtering issues and lack of customization (for paternal controls or storage).

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

It's free and voice/video calls work smoothly. WhatsApp's adds a level of security with it's end-to-end encryption. It allows for media, document and location sharing and includes all the standard messaging features (voice notes, group chats, etc.) It's global reach is great, and allows for international connectivity. It also works on mobile and desktop. It also allows for a large number of people to be in a group chat compared to other similar platforms.

#### Cons

There is a decent amount of spam messaging and calls which can be annoying but it is expected on all platform. It collects metadata, and requires and active internet connection.

#### Reasons for switching to WhatsApp

WhatsApp has a wider use base and it has an end-to-end encryption so it feels more secure. While Viber did have a better international calling (allows you to call non-app user) it was very limited in its overall scope.

Overall, my experience with WhatsApp has been very positive. The app is reliable, easy to use, and makes communication simple and fast. I use it daily for personal and group conversations, and it consistently works well for messaging, voice calls, and video calls. Despite a few areas that could be improved, it remains one of the most convenient communication tools for me.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 3/5

#### Pros

WhatsApp is very easy to use, fast, and intuitive. It’s simple to send messages, photos, and files, and group chats work very well. I especially like the ability to make high‑quality voice and video calls.

#### Cons

Sometimes the app becomes slow when there are many files or active groups. I would like to see more management options, such as message filtering or better organization tools for groups.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 4/5

#### Pros

The almost instantaneous communication with anyone, practically anywhere on a global level, in addition to the ease with which you can set up a quick ad hoc group chat for a particular event, occasion, etc. Also, making calls through VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) via WhatsApp, instead of conventional cellphone to cellphone calling.

#### Cons

Very occasionally, the App freezes or just does not work, and you have to re-start your cellphone. Sometimes if there is a problem with the actual app, no notification or alert is sent, and you may find yourself waiting for a considerable amount of time.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5

#### Pros

What I like most about WhatsApp is its overall seamless and efficient ease of use. It is incredibly intuitive; once set up, sending text, audio, or video messaging is fast and reliable. The chat interface is clean and allows for easy organization with pinned chats and group management. I appreciate that it functions as a comprehensive, centralized communications hub—it simplifies my daily life to have reliable international messaging, high-quality voice calls, and stable video calls all within a single, free application. It truly offers exceptional value for money because it replaced my need for costly traditional SMS and international calling plans. Finally, the ability to quickly share different media types (photos, documents, contacts, locations) is very well integrated and dependable.

#### Cons

Customer support can improve. specially the documentation online. I often feel limited to generic help articles rather than accessible, direct help from a person. I also encounter persistent, though usually minor, bugs and issues. For instance, notifications can sometimes be delayed on one device but not another when using multi-device support. However this it the application for messaging i use and i feel this is the best in the market at the moment.

- Value for money: 5/5

#### Pros

I use WhatsApp everyday. Can be used for personal or business messages. Free to use. I love the fairly new status feature where you can post images for all your contacts to see. This feature is very useful for my small business. Easy to send pictures and videos to people and it is easy to go back to find those images. The pin feature is useful for important messages and so is the search feature to find those all important messages. Group chats are also great and used on a daily basis.

#### Cons

When you would like to leave a group chat, I think there should be an option to leave anonymously as I think a lot of people stay in groups that's they don't want to be in as they are worried that leaving will be announced.

Sometimes large files can’t be sent, and it would be great if there were more storage flexibility. Also, switching between personal and business chats could be smoother—especially when you’re using WhatsApp for work.

Positive experience for both personal and business use. How it sends files, calls and messages in an instance makes it the number one tool for me to use for communication.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

A great free tool to use for messaging and group chats. Whatsapp is easy to use as well as secure. The main positive for me is that it's open for everybody to use.

#### Cons

There's hardly any flaws with WhatsApp, it runs fast and is always available to use. If i had to be clinical i do find myself receiving spam messages from time to time but this tends to happen on most platforms.

I have mainly used WhatsApp for team communication, including quick discussions, sharing updates, exchanging files, and coordinating with colleagues. It makes it easy to communicate in real time and keeps conversations accessible from a mobile device. Overall, it is a practical option for fast and informal team communication.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

WhatsApp is a convenient communication tool for staying connected with team members through direct messages, group chats, voice calls, and file sharing. I found it useful for quick communication when information needs to be shared or discussed without relying on email.

#### Cons

Frequent messages and notifications can become distracting, particularly when several team conversations are active at the same time. It can also be less structured than dedicated workplace communication platforms for organizing longer discussions or project-related information.
