Big Fan of IVM

I use the Rules Composer and Standards Composer extensively. These two composers interact intuitively and quickly launches me into Standard definition with a link to the possible rules that I can leverage for data quality scorecards. I always know if the Business Rule is in progress or approved based on the built-in workflow. I can also open attachments to view the actual data that is deemed to be in-scope for each rule. I also love the Processes and data dictionary components with the end to end view of the entire process (e.g. source to pay, order to cash).

PROS

Some additional things I like about IVM: The relation diagram because it generates a dynamic view of the relationships so users can quickly identify their business's most critical data. The interface/design because you don't need to be a developer or technical person to use it. It is easy and intuitive, and even fun to use. Valuation because there is no other platform on the market that allows you to tie your efforts to top line business outcomes.

Key Tool for an Enterprise Governance Program!

IVM has been a critical component of our overall Data Governance program. We now have a simple way to capture and share key information about our data elements and processes. It has also helped us kick start our Data Stewardship program to ensure we are building a strong dynamic framework for managing all facets of our enterprise data. How we can get away from static sharing of data via Excel or PowerPoint!

PROS

Ease of use, User Interface, Linking capabilities,

CONS

Upload templates can be a struggle, but once you are past the initial set up, mass upload isn't a big challenge.

It's OK but isn't easy to use

I really like the concept of IVM. It's a great tool for capturing and organizing your data about your data. However, the interface has 2 MAJOR flaws. 1st, the "Remember Me" function doesn't even work. I've written websites and I'd be embarrassed if the simplest function of "Remember me next time" doesn't work. 2nd, is the search function. It is horrible. There is no multi word pattern search. If your subject title is, for example, "Customer Name Requirements", you can NOT search on "Customer Requirements" and get this document returned. If you don't know what you are searching for, then IVM's search function is useless. When they specifically fix the search ability, the tool will be really good!

PROS

Good place to store information

CONS

Interface is bad. Search function is the worse.

Huge Increase in Efficiency

We had lots of business rules well documented but they were in a format that was only consumable by the master data team. They were full of acronyms and techy terms and lacked context around the business reason to have this rule. IVM helped us define the business context of data and make it accessible across the organization. Now that we have the business context of our information, we can use IVM to search within definitions to quickly find anything we need. Not only that, but we can search on the field. This comes in handy for a new resource who doesn't know what the process is, therefore isn't even sure what to search for to find what they are looking for. They can simply use the search feature to reverse search and it brings them directly to the rule. Before IVM, they would have to find someone who knew or dig through spreadsheets, and at the end of the day, they may not have been able to find it at all. This has been a huge increase in efficiency.

I'm back with a very positive update...

PROS

My first review was similar in that I believe this is a good tool for storing information. However, this review is WAY BETTER! After my first review, Datum called me and asked why I was so negative on their product. It was mainly their search engine. Less than 4 months later, problem solved. Before, the search functionality was almost useless. BUT NOW?? The search capabilities are 10 times better and IVM is now a very usable tool! They listened to the feedback and fixed what I considered to be their main flaw with IVM. Today, I would suggest that you would be foolish to not consider IVM for your needs. Datum, thanks for listening!

CONS

Datum still needs to fix the "remember me" login function and they need to add a filter to the search for data Domain. Very minor problems.
