Great Product

I use this product every day and have yet to find an alternative I enjoy as much.

PROS

I've used multiple database IDEs before and this one has been hands down the best overall product for functionality, ease of use and a sleek UI to contain it all.

CONS

The product itself is great, but it's extremely expensive, especially since you're purchasing it for a specific type of database instead of an all-in-one. Thy now offer that, but the price of the version for just the MariaDB/MySQL version alone is more that most if not all other competitors all-in-one solution. I purchase and you this because it's the best at what it does and I'm using it daily, but it's a lot of money for something that I honestly could be doing in a free workspace, just at a slower pace with less features. I also would prefer if they made a native Linux and Mac version where I wouldn't need to use something like Wine or CrossFire to make it work, as I use all major OS. It does work fine on all of them however.

Good Product that gets the job done

This product is great, it's not as intuitive as the old MySQL GUI from years past, but it works and accomplishes everything I need.

PROS

Does everything I need for a gui interface to MariaDB.

CONS

Sometimes I have to relearn how to run queries, get the results, check errors etc.

Reasons for switching to dbForge Studio for MySQL

It was free but no longer supported the new MariaDB.

Excellent Product

We are currently managing databases for engineering the hardware that we sell as a company. This is a mission critical app responsible for significant revenue. Our overall experience with dbForge Studio for MySQL has been excellent! We are very pleased with it and plan to continue using it. The support for MySQL 8.0 was an important feature missing from our previous tool as it was no longer being updated when 8.0 was released.

PROS

We had been using Toad for MySQL for several years. However, it was discontinued and replaced by Toad Edge, which lacked many of the features of Toad for MySQL and became a paid tool instead of freeware. Upon discovering dbForge Studio for MySQL, we found it had all the capabilities we were looking for and closely matched Toad for MySQL in features. We found it very easy to make the switch between the tools and have no regrets with our decision to purchase dbForge Studio for MySQL.

CONS

I have no major issues with this software. It works as designed for me and is very stable. There were 2 features in Toad for MySQL I do miss:1) The background color of edit sessions could be set to match the color of the icon used only it was a lighter pastel. Thus, light red for production, light yellow/orange for staging, light green for development and light blue for sandbox. This made it so you always knew which environment your were working in without having to look up to check it. Several times I have executed queries in production when I thought I was in development. Fortunately, no serious issues. 2) Vertical tabs - I work on a lot of queries at one time and can have 20 or more tabs open at one time. Scrolling across the top, or using the dropdown is cumbersome. Locating the tabs to the left (or right) of the edit window allows for scrolling the tabs with the mouse wheel.

Reason for choosing dbForge Studio for MySQL

This was the only tool that met the requirements and feature sets we were looking for.

Reasons for switching to dbForge Studio for MySQL

Toad for MySQL did not support MySQL 8.0. The replacement for it was Toad Edge, and it was deemed lacking in comparison to dbForge Studio for MySQL. Our testing and review of several other tools proved that dbForge Studio for MySQL was the most capable tool of all we tested.

Amazing auto-completion and keyboard shortcut customizability

PROS

I love the auto completions, especially for join statements and filling in column names. The customizability of the keyboard shortcuts is also very nice.

CONS

My biggest pet peeve is the fact that it is not possible to disable auto-commit by default and at the connection level. Hence, I have had to put SET autocommit = 0; at the top of every script I use and execute it manually in every script window if I want autocommit to be off for transactions in that window.

Reasons for switching to dbForge Studio for MySQL

I wanted better auto-complete functionality

All communication problems finally solved

Our Company is making color masterbatches for the Synthetic Fibres Industry. We cannot operate with the standard BoM system because we have several recipes for the same color. We have a complex system using an official financial ERP software, Excel for recipe's calculation and pricing and a PHP front-end based on a MySQL database. We needed to get automatic and error-free communication among these systems. Add to this that we are based in Italy, and the localisation makes the usage of. csv files a nightmare. After trying unsuccessfully other software, finally DbForge for MySQL brilliantly resolved all our problems. After months of research and testing we can confidently attest that none of the competitors offers the same capabilities and tools at a similar convenient price.Lastly, communication with Devart people is easy and fast: they are very collaborative and helpful.

PROS

-The straightforward and flawless two ways communication with Excel: we can finally stop worrying about decimal separators and misrepresentation of zero and blank cells,-The quick and easy way to automate via command line the export/import from one database to another,-The ability to handle huge files providing very useful tools (SQL Editor, Quey Builder, Script, Pivot)

CONS

The online help could be improved showing more practical examples.

More than 6 years using dbForge

PROS

I can manage different databases on different servers, and even different MySQL versions. I have total control over my databases.

CONS

I used to have a MySQL 5.1 version, dbForge Studio has some bugs since it does not support 5.1. However, since I upgrade my database at least to 5.6 no problems.

Reasons for switching to dbForge Studio for MySQL

Two main reasons: first, to be able to degug store procedures. Second, to manage databases of different versions under the same product.

Fast becoming part of my 'must have...' toolset

I really do like this a lot – stuff that is a pain to do in MySQL Workbench is much more simple and quick in dbForge, which is moving swiftly towards being one of my ‘don’t want to be without it…’ tools. I develop (or lead the development of) custom x86 desktop and web apps in Xojo – all of which talk to MySQL or MariaDB databases on local Linux boxes or AWS cloud servers these days. I can spend less time getting the database structure and content how I want it, and more time working on my front-end code in Xojo. I also like having it open on one monitor on my PC, with Xojo IDE open on another, and the running app on a third. That way I can easily monitor the database contents as I develop and test – much better, faster and more intuitive than phpMyAdmin or MySQL Workbench.

PROS

Simplifies and speeds tasks that take longer and are more difficult in other tools. Lets me spend more time working on developing desktop and web apps and less time on dbAdmin/setup tasks

CONS

None. It installs cleanly and works as you expect it to.

Reasons for switching to dbForge Studio for MySQL

I'm much more efficient at developing and delivering software for my clients when using this tool

Reasons for switching to dbForge Studio for MySQL

Way bigger feature set and much more stable!
