The native Identity migrations don't matchup with the MySQL data types. dotConnect for MySQL made it painless to setup and get working. I had previously tried to use the native MySQL connectors for .NET and wasted countless hours trying to get things to match up. This solved my problem in short order. #### Cons The documentation could be a little better and updated for modern .NET Frameworks. The tool itself is reliable and without bugs. This company provides a range of complimentary tools to streamline database development. Its integration into the Visual Studio IDE is a must for us and it's seamless. #### Cons We often get a warning that its not licensed correctly when installing on a customers site. We have a quick and nasty work around which is installing our DotConnect installation on the site and that fixes it right up. I completely understand the need for licensing selling software ourselves, but I find this product a little finicky at times. Mostly, it goes off without a hitch. #### Reasons for choosing dotConnect for MySQL The price is set just right. Freeware that provides the basic functionality of this product is definitely a case of , "You get what you pay for." This software, for the very little you pay, for goes way beyond basic functionality. The thing I love the most about this software, above all else, is it is NOT software as a service.
