Knowing that I own my technology/software gives me peace of mind as not only someone who does contract work on the side, but also has a company machine that I have to use for me daily driver. It is incredibly simple to use, even my less than literate users are able to now develop their own documentation outlines and have the IT team or someone else on their own team help to finish up the more technical side. This is the end all be all of documentation software for me and I will be using it exclusively for the rest of my career. #### Cons There is not much that I can complain about really. I would like their to be a mobile app or some kind of mobile connection that could be established to make creating tablet or smartphone documentation easier, but even then that's not really all that necessary. #### Reasons for switching to Folge Cost and useability. No incentive was offered Solid, i have had hundreds of screenshots in a document before, and while it was large, performing some cropping helped reduce the size, but the fact that Folge keeps the original screenshot instead of over writing it with the crop has always been amazingly useful. I love that I can remove the crop and do it again if it does not provide all of the information, even if its a year later. Adding pointers, highlighters, and other information to images has been very useful, and the fact that its all hot keyed makes it even better. #### Ratings breakdown - Ease of use: 5/5 - Value for money: 5/5 - Customer support: 5/5 - Functionality: 4/5 #### Pros One of the reasons we use Folge is because it is easy to use, the editing with hot keys are great, keeping it simple but providing a lot of useful features. #### Cons Honestly, not an issue with the software, but i wish i could output into our documentation platform. Currently i use the export to word, then copy that in and modify the formatting to fit within the documentation platform. The platform we use is not heavily used in the world, so its not really a worthwhile time investment to implement. I wish they would handle the import the word documents or another format that folge uses in a more reliable way so it was easier to bring them over there. #### Reasons for choosing Folge Hot Keys and simple functionality with a lot of ways to export the data, while holding on to the original data.Three suggestions for Folge... A cropping feature that removers a vertical or horizontal section of the screenshot, places a divider line (maybe something a little fancy that you can select like a tear), and brings both sides together. That way you can remove a lot of dead screen space between two parts that you are showing on the screen at once.Second suggestion, allow for gif recordings and editing. Many times a screenshot is good enough, but several times, i could remove 10-30 screenshots for one small gif. Even if it was selecting the screenshots in order and creating a gif off of all of the steps to turn it into one step would be very helpful. To expand on it, having gif export as an option would be helpful as well. The Folge team is also highly responsive and proactive in reviewing customer feedback and considering it for future releases. #### Cons Many of the features I didn't think were present were already in the program. I didn't read the manual! As an IT Manager, being able to produce these quickly and effortlessly is essential, and Folge comes through with flying colours. #### Cons I sometimes have trouble making the screenshots and the text fit nicely from page to page. #### Reasons for switching to Folge When Screensteps changed their licensing plan, and the way their software is used, I was very unhappy. Folge will take a separate screenshot for each click that you make, showing what you are doing for each step. It is easy to then arrange the screenshots into a set of steps and annotate the screenshots in order. #### Cons I think some of the image annotation features could be improved. Folge gives you the ability to draw arrows, lines, text, and other symbols on the images/screenshots that you capture. When I convert these to PDF it seems that some of the annotated items can appear blurry, although it is generally not an issue. VALUE is the name of the game with Folge. We intended to use this for Mac-only (as windows has some basic built in tools), we ended up getting both versions, WELL worth it. The author is amazingly responsive and continues to develop features and crush bugs as they are reported. Not sure what else to say, outstanding product with as good of support as you could hope for from an independent developer. With Folge I can easily create tutorials while watching training classes. #### Cons As I said before I don't like the way you move steps within the list of steps. Very buggy and annoying. Coming from a previous software application that has been discontinued, and most competitors being either limited or very expensive, Folge was the natural choice for me. #### Ratings breakdown - Ease of use: 4/5 - Value for money: 5/5 - Functionality: 5/5 #### Pros I like the ease-of-use and how easily it allows me to create a Step-by-step guide for customers by combing text, images and annotations to visually show customers how to perform specific actions. #### Cons The User Interface may not be as intuitive as the competitors but is a result of being multi-platform and takes only very little time to learn. #### Reasons for choosing Folge Folge being one of the few products that wasn't an online product or very expensive, my only alternatives were OpenOffice, MS Word, Apple Pages or using a plain Markup Editor (i.e. Typora or Ulysses). Folge had everything I needed; Screenshots with annotations, adding text, exporting into a number of file formats. #### Reasons for switching to Folge I started out with ScreenSteps and went for Clarify once ScreenSteps become an online-only and very expensive product. Unfortunately Clarify was discontinued and while still working, it may only be a matter of time before it does not.
