There is a reason it is the most commonly used

I've been on teams that have built and managed sites doing tens of millions of visits a month on heavily customized instances of WordPress, all the way down to personal pet projects that get single digit visits a month. It's the only CMS I consistently recommend.

PROS

The ecosystem built around WordPress is second to none. Every front end developer is familiar with WordPress. There are multiple plugin options for just about anything you could ever want to do. Most importantly, it's open source and therefore free. Some people are deterred by open source, but WordPress powers a third of the Internet, it isn't going anywhere.

CONS

It can be a bit of a pain in the butt to do certain things. For example, if you want to use it as a CMS for a larger site and not just a blog, the out of the box configuration needs customization. Also, they recently switched to a fundamentally new way of doing things "Gutenberg" and it is not without its warts. Over time this will improve.

Reason for choosing WordPress

The community around WordPress was better.

Reasons for switching to WordPress

Hubspot's proprietary CMS was too expensive to maintain and we didn't get anything out of it.

PROS

It is easy to use. The themes can be customized easily. There are lots of resources online in case you need any assistance.

CONS

I wish there was a dedicated team that you could go to when you run into some challenges. Especially after an update, from my experience, I have to search through some community-based forums. I have to search through lots of resources just to get something specific to my challenge.

All these good reviews have something in commen. Most people reviewing this have only ever used WP

In the end WP is a blogging platform and should NOT be used for your big corporate website. It has to many flaws for a that.Using any of the DIY theme builders you will create a good looking website that will become a maintenance, security and SEO nightmare. The amount of hours you will spend trying to fix stuff could have been spent on a system that works well. You will create a monster with 1000 plugins that will break the site as soon as there is a php update.Horrible, then more maintenance and money spend. WP is not a good idea unless it for a small DIY website for self or a small business

PROS

Its easy to install and get up and running. There are TONS of plugins.Great as a blog

CONS

Tons of plugins make the website a nightmare. Every day something stops working. You get attacked all the time so security needs to be on point at all times.Bad choice for a multi website CMS

Reason for choosing WordPress

Had to use it because of clients wishes

Wordpress, NOT for Complete Beginners

Although Wordpress is a fairly fast and easy way to get website up and running relatively fast, it requires a lot of upkeep, maintenance, and constant monitoring and continuous configuring of code updates and settings to keep running smoothly and safely in the long run. Do not reccomend to complete beginners or novices. Highly recommend to business owners who have a budget for proper upkeep and maintenance.

PROS

Highly customizable with extensive knowledge and experience

CONS

Doesn't work out the box, needs a lot of customization and configuring in order to work properly, not for Complete beginners.

Reason for choosing WordPress

They all fell short in one way or another.

Reasons for switching to WordPress

LightCMS was too Proprietary making it too hard to customize and had the same learning curve as Wordpress, just with too many customization restrictions, so it made sense for me to switch.

The Essential Web Platform for Flexibility and Depth

WordPress is terrific. It gives us a platform where we can combine plugins and themes that speed up or automatically accomplish many otherwise-tedious tasks, but gives us options through plugins or back-end editing to add whatever functionality or customization we need. It is an exceptionally powerful open-source platform. Our only complaint is that the wide variety of options sometimes means that even simple tasks require a tremendous amount of involvement and decision-making. But these are few and far between.

PROS

WordPress offers unmatched depth of customization WordPress also offers a wide variety of attractive prebuilt themes, templates and simple front-end builders The documentation and support is freely available and extremely helpful The plugin store includes helpful information about each plugin to assist users in making choices about modifying their website

CONS

With great customization comes density of options—some tasks are excessively complex to achieve Some utility tasks are offloaded to plugins, which necessitates a never-ending search for the right plugin to accomplish a basic task

Reason for choosing WordPress

We chose WordPress because we valued the open-source design, and the depth of customization.

Reasons for switching to WordPress

WordPress offered ease of use and a wide range of more powerful features.

One of the best website managers out there

It has been a very good experience to get to know wordpress and use it. It has granted us a great tool to manage websites, blogs, communities and landing pages. There is a lot of tutorials and information around, you just have to have the will (and/or time) to keep updating.

PROS

WordPress is one of the best website managers and content creators. It has tons of templates, addins and is supported almost everywhere (even if you want to install it locally). We have used our website with WordPress for more than 4 years and everytime we need to update or upgrade it, is as simple as to look for a new template, create a backup, install the template and customize it a little bit and in less than a week (sometimes even days) we have it up and running

CONS

The con I could find on Wordpress is that it can sometimes be difficult to keep an eye on the new versions of everything you install. There are updates for the theme, the addins, the plugins, the connectors, etc. What we have agreed to do is to always look to minimize the addons we select for our website to keep this controlable but there is always some antispam addin or comments addin you will eventually need. And sometimes, with the updates, you can get your site broken.

Reason for choosing WordPress

It could be migrated in case we changed our hoster and had tons of addins, templates and plugins.

Reasons for switching to WordPress

SharePoint offered at some time external webistes with your Office 365 subscription but it ended it and luckily we found WordPress that really helped us a lot more.

Best way to make a webpage or more is to use Wordpress

Really great to use, simple yet scalable. I've seen solutions for small companies, and enterprise websites made with Wordpress. It is Swiss army knife for building Webpages. Since elementor plugin was released you don neet any HTML or PHP knowledge. Making websites becomes drag and drop puzzle.

PROS

When you type in Wordpress in google, youtube or bing in matter of seconds you get basic, advanced or ninja level tutorials how to make a webpage. When you learn basics (2-3 weeks) you can make decent webpages for allmost anybody. Superb plugin/theme and forum support make this product superior to any other product. I never encounter problem which i could not figure out with fer minutes or hours of googleing.

CONS

Usage depends on speed of hosting servers. I had different versions and different solutions implemented. I found out that 90% of problems are hosting related, other 10% is related for not buying some premium features.

Reason for choosing WordPress

User friendly, my colleuge is expert so i had someone to nag.

Self Hosted WordPress - King of Blogging Platforms

I have been using WordPress since last decade. I have tried in many webhosting providers. Possibly had Installed hundreds of Instances of WordPress for testing and live hosting, even few for customers also. It is a time saver and because of extensive availability of themes and plugins, you can create Unique websites for different business needs. Its really positive and helpful.

PROS

Most loved feature about WordPress.org is Easy of Deployment and Administration. You can simply install this software using single Click button on most of the Web Hosting environments. If you plan to install in your Local Machine, it is also simple. Just install PHP/MySQL using tool like XAMPP and rest is step by step guided. Next loved thing is the Customization available. Thousands of themes and plugins to extend the capabilities as required. Guess what, you can simply design your theme or plugin with simple knowledge of PHP. As being the Open Source and long running product, community support is indepth.

CONS

One thing that Frustrates is the resource usage. WordPress uses most resource if compared amount other popular tools like Joomla & Drupal. If you are using in Shared Hosting environment, the performance of the website is slower as you start getting visitors.

Reason for choosing WordPress

For Blogging, WordPress is simple and have more active contributor than other platforms.

Reasons for switching to WordPress

Those have limitation over customization (no or very less plugins/themes) and unavailability of Database impacted many things.

The best and the most flexible

We use for several projects the combination of wordpress + DIVI + cache + protection plugin. With this we have a standardized and easy structure to create websites for clients in hours instead of weeks. Without wordpress you need to program or use an expensive tool that generates an exportable website. There are other CMS, but wordpress is more convenient and easier to find solutions to problems. Although it's not that fast, it's still much faster than other options on the market.

PROS

As you use it in various jobs, it becomes familiar. It has plugins for everything you can imagine. You can create your own plugins or mix them with separate pages in php/html. It has a lot of free stuff or "lite". Using themes like DIVI you can create websites of all types in hours instead of weeks. Only program when you really need it. Almost every time updates are fine, you update without fear.

CONS

I miss there being more performance. As it comes with many built-in things, you pay for the functions with slowness. Also bad is the tendency to replace stable php for pages and functions in RIA with javascript.

Reason for choosing WordPress

Each CMS has its characteristics, but when we compare these three options, we consider wordpress faster, easier to maintain and with a shorter learning curve. In practice we tested them all and wordpress was the winner for our need.

Reasons for switching to WordPress

With programming you have complete flexibility, but often the project becomes more expensive and your small customer suffers.

Wordpress saves time and makes updates easy

I spent many years coding websites using html and CSS. Many years ago, when I needed a simple site creating quickly, I discovered CMSs like WordPress and tried a few. The results weren't as polished back then as they are now, but the potential was huge. I continued using WordPress because it was free and well supported, and it is now my first choice when creating a new site.

PROS

I love the 'what you see is what you get' editing that Wordpress provides, but like knowing that I can also switch to full html/CSS code editing if I want to.

CONS

Because Wordpress allows almost infinite customisation through plugins, there is the risk of installing a badly written or not well maintained plugin, which could potentially affect your website negatively. Fortunately, plugins have a rating system and show the amount of active users to help with decision making.

Reason for choosing WordPress

Reputation and plugin support

Reasons for switching to WordPress

I switched to Wordpress because it was free, well supported and well respected.

A great platform for blogging, with various user level options and thousands of plugins available.

I use WordPress for a tiny placeholder blog article posting with the context of it being scalable and to develop later on, if as needed of basis arises. I started off on WordPress as a small business digital multimedia publishing company sit in temp worker, adding small various features such as mail chimp to a site to customize a mailing list context for the already established and developed site. I found that the plugin itself was rich in features of customized basis and workflow process, beyond a visitor entering information in to a query box, and establishing mailing lists of input client email addresses, as needed, offered various menu contexts and options that allow for common takes on what merits a customer business relationship management basis, to start off on, with potentially more complex and perhaps paid plugins available later on in the development cycle, which would build upon notions established in the free offering of mail chimp. Aside from that, I published some small and slight personal aspiration project article stuff on an OSX modded for Windows computers fan base establishment online that I left alone for a year and came back to find that it had gathered over 300 hits over the course of a year with no attention or particular promotion given to it, aside from what I'd included in the basic offering of free WordPress blog offerings, within the context of perhaps that they include a tag and search engine basis of keywords to send off for blogs to be found.

PROS

WordPress is a highly extendable, modifiable, and customizable website design service based on a blog as the model for launching a ready to use and scalable context of website design, of which: many popular and widely various sorts of sites are capably produced. The added benefit of being able to access an array of thousands of third party plugins, which are, within the context of WordPress, particularly embeddable modules of various commonly used and conceivably necessary sorts, such as tables and entries for establishing mailing lists, customer queries, site stats for user visits, various page speed loading boosts, search engine optimization helpers; all sorts of common web page features that an individual woukd commonly come across in browsing the web at large, that pop up to challenge the web site designer from novice level of experience, to inasmuch as they make of their blog, as it starts off, with WordPress features and extensions via plugins that make it truly a work of a labor of care and devotion that a blog can truly end up as, as the web designer and domain owner, as it might be, in WordPress advanced user offerings of subscription basis that offer higher end features, bandwidth, and basis of extending a back end support team context of Top-Level-Domain email addresses, of custom sites, whereas the free WordPress basic site offering features a custom brand or naming basis as a sub domain of WordPress as the main host for the blog. Basic featured good SEO reach.

CONS

I could probably stand to spend more time using WordPress, although at the moment I work primarily on mobile, and as far as I've searched around, the plugins are more commonly adaptable in a desktop or traditional computer otherwise, as a standard laptop or tablet, as it might be. At some point, I'll most likely get in to working with many standards of web publishing platform offerings, several that they are, for an investigation as towards servicing gig basis clients on their chosen platform, and to offer various and competitive website design services, obviously inclusive of the major and popular e-commerce and blogging service offerings, as a service and delivery specualist of having a context of personal experience at my available resource.

Plugins!! plugins everywhere

Super easy to deploy and have a really pretty website published in a few hours. The bad part, as I said, are the constant update that you have to make to keep your site up without risks of being hacked.

PROS

Wordpress is really easy to deploy and have a site running in less than 2 hours. It aims to this "integration" that excels other CMSs like Joomla. Wherever you go, there's a Wordpress integration as simple as some clicks. That's really useful. One of the best and simple things that I like from this is the separation of posts and pages. You can make sure that everything you have on posts are news items, articles, blog posts, etc. and leave the pages for the structure of the website

CONS

The bad part of this is that there are some basic features like photos on a category or even some of the simplest things you might expect to have there, you need a plugin for this. In the end of the day, you'll have a pretty website with something like 20 plugins doing basic stuff that Joomla has by default. In the end, you have to keep your site updated frequently and you shouldn't lose that from sight or you might have a security gap and have your site pwnd (hacked).

Reason for choosing WordPress

I didn't chose it over Joomla. I use it for different puroposes than Joomla. Having this clear, I use this for shopping carts and websites that require some more people writing posts and not having them messing with the structure of the site.

Built my entire business with Wordpress

My overall experience with WordPress is positive. It has always been my #1 recommendation to new bloggers and serious marketers online. My only hope is that Gutenberg will become less buggy over time.

PROS

I was a struggling college student when I first installed Wordpress on my cheap hosting. Back then I picked Wordpress because it was easy to install and open-source. I had a few technical skills and no money so that was the best CMS for my new website. The first blog was pretty basic, but it did the job. Thanks to WordPress, I eventually managed to build a small following by publishing blog posts on my website. Today, I continue to power all my sites with WordPress. Here's who I recommend WordPress for: - If your website is going to be content-heavy (i.e. you publish a lot of blog posts) - WordPress makes the job very easy. Formatting is easy, writing is easy, uploading media is easy... - People who have none or little technical skills - you're not a programmer but would like to have a professional looking website. There are lots of features and plugins on WordPress that allows you to drag and drop elements on your site so you don't have to touch a line of code if you don't want to! - People looking to MVP SaaS projects - this is relatively new for me but I've noticed tons of people making money by building simple SaaS on top of WordPress. It's gonna save you a ton of time and money building your MVP on WordPress compared to other platforms.

CONS

I've always loved WordPress but the one thing I'm having mixed feelings about is Gutenberg. It has been working quite well for me for the last couple of months and I've been loving the ease of using it, but since the latest update, the entire thing lags when I write. This really sucks for me and I think I have to switch back to the 'Classic Editor'. Could be a theme issue, but I've converted almost all my new posts to Gutenberg format now I don't know if I remove Gutenberg what would happen to the formatting on my posts.

WordPress

WordPress is a good tool. It is the right tool for beginners, since it is a very easy and simple one to use if trying to build a basic website and/or blog. However, if you want to customize your website/blog, make it more complex and sophisticated, its necessary for you to know coding. Wordpress is a great place to use to create and run your blogs; and isn't a very great tool (may be complicated) to use for other purposes Installing add-ons and plugins is absolutely necessary for security and other purposes; however, the installation process may crash your website, so backing it up is very important.

PROS

- easy to install (unlike Drupal, which was a HUGE headache to get on my computer) - it is an easy to use tool for someone who has no tech background and wants to build a blog from scratch - many different design template to choose from - many different plugins and add-ons available - an easy way to build a mobile friendly website (all design are responsive, which is a very important feature these days) - its an open source software - SEO features are great! - its free! - as far as I know, WordPress is the biggest blogging community, and it keeps growing and improving

CONS

- managing plugins is a learning curve - you have to keep up with Wordpress updates; and their installation is time consuming and can mess up the website you already have, which can become a major issue! - a very poor security (I always get so much spam in my WordPress blog) - its an open source tool (which is also a downside of it; since it WordPress blogs, website are the most common targets for hackers) - their design templates have very limited customization options. And if you want to customize anything, you need to get to it from the back-end and code, which isn't a feasible option for many of us - you are in charge of your website and you are on your own. If you have an issue, you are the one to fix it. It most of the cases, coding is a way to fix things, and if you don't have coding background, you are in trouble. - since it has intiially been designed as a blogging platform, the content model is restrictive. And then again, if you want to make any changes to it, you need to know coding.
