Litigation Project

When I first started, I was presented with a database with 400 projects and a million records. I could only search the record metadata. All that work to scan and enter records was essentially for not, couldn't search fast enough and couldn't search the records OCR data. Presented this issue to [SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN] and he went to work right away to address our concerns. Wrote a script to allow D/A to search document OCR and coached me on how to best combine projects. A complete lifesaver!

PROS

We used Discovery Assistant as a repository for a million or so government records. What impressed me was the ability to quickly search the database using keywords to find a specific record. You could literally pull a needle out of a haystack. This feature was required as turn-a-round times on requests were sometimes very short, I mean literally minutes. D/A gave us the ability to respond almost immediately.

CONS

We had over 400 individual, smaller projects in D/A that had to be combined. In order to use the search feature efficiently this was the only option. Searching 400 separate small projects wasn't feasible. It took a good amount of time to combine projects and once they became large enough we encountered errors in the transfer process. We went from 400 down to 5. Made the searching for records very quick. FYI - make sure you get a good document OCR. Makes all the difference when you search.

Reason for choosing Discovery Assistant

I believe at the time other record management / litigation / discovery type software was investigated. D/A offered similar performance for less investment. For example, we've just upgraded to a newer records management software version and it was 3x the cost of the D/A investment. I think D/A with some modification could be a useful alternative to records and information management applications.

Great support

Discovery Assistant is valuable tool!

PROS

Discovery Assistant it a complex piece of software doing a complex set of tasks. It is extremely flexible and has been able to do nearly everything asked of it. What sets it apart is the product support we've received over the years. They're always a phone call or email away from direct help on any roadblock I've run into.

CONS

Discovery Assistant takes a while to figure out, and many of the tools and features are hard to find or figure out.
