Administrators can automatically send alerts to parents via multiple channels including email, text, voice, social media and school website. ParentSquare comes with a template message library, which allows users to notify parents/students through pre-recorded messages for incidents such as lockdown, active shooter, medical emergency, suspicious person, bad weather conditions and more. This software is intended for simpletons like elementary teachers and children, and probably still misses the mark on that demograph. Students love it, parents love it, and everyone seems happy with all of the things that it offers. Remind allows this communication to be secure without exchanging phone numbers. I love how I can schedule messages in advance, and even send a picture, or a video if needed. I like how parents can sign up as a parent so when you send a messages either you can pick parents or students, and I also like how there is an individual messaging option for a student to reach out to their teacher individually. I also like how there are “office hours “you can set so it will tell the student that it is outside of your office hours if they try to contact you at an appropriate time. Cons: I wish that the word maximum was larger. Right now it is very low, and I have found myself either making a video, or typing out my comment in a note or a message and screenshotting it and sending that instead. I also wish there was a way for group messages to show who has read the message. The individual messaging section does have this, but it would be very helpful if it was in the group section as well. If, for example, you have open house meetings, you can create a calendar and have parents schedule the time they'd like to meet based on the availability on the calendar. Let the technology do the tedious work while you focus on something else. I can attach videos, pictures, documents, links and flyers to my messages. Cons: When you're in the middle of composing a message and you click out of it, whether by accident or to do something else, it does not save the message you were already composing. Everything is gone. You'll have to remember what you wrote and type it all over again. Ratings Breakdown 1 Ease of use 1 Functionality Pros: The apps is good for educators to send communications to parents and students via smartphone. The pop up notifications allow for instant knowledge that a new announcement has been posted. Cons: Using the apps is extremely confusing and not user friendly. Participating in polls, or "liking" posts and making reactions was impossible for me to figure out (I still can't do it and I consider myself pretty tech savvy). Forms from the app couldn't be completed on my smart phone, I had to log onto the computer to do it which defeated the purpose. Vendor Response I'm sorry you're frustrated by the ParentSquare app! The app is one of many ways parents, teachers, students and staff can access everything from district announcements to one-to-one messaging with teachers, for multiple schools, and multiple districts. For posts you should be able to click the HEART icon next to the post title to appreciate it right from the list view. Or you can open the message, and scroll to the bottom, click Appreciate on the right hand side. I wonder what OS version you're running - if it's recent, these instructions should be valid. Polls - we do have a built in survey tool that's pretty straightforward, but not all schools or districts use it - some will link to an external site. Since schools have so many varied forms for enrollment, address verification, media releases, covid-19 health screening, they can be complex on mobile.
