Sort of works, better options out there

PROS

It has a great list of features, it's easy to navigate and intuitive to learn to use without major reading or training.

CONS

It should be a simple setup, but it is flagged by many AV vendors which makes it difficult to get all of the features running. I had to uninstall and reinstall many times, even after going through all the steps to avoid AV detection and tampering with software files and STILL didn't get all of the features running. Customer support was NOT helpful. They are very quick to point out it is NOT their fault and always blame it on the security software.

Vendor Response

Jorge, If you do not configure your antivirus to allow SentryPC it will create issues. Your issue here is not related to SentryPC itself, but rather your antivirus at this point - it should not be tampering with Sentry's operation. I realize this can be frustrating depending on which AV solution you are using. Our team is always there to assist in this situation - we are more than happy to do the installation and antivirus configuration for you if you wish - it generally takes our team a few minutes at most to do this.

Use At Your Own Risk

Our issue with this company came down to trust and professionalism, both of which are lacking.

PROS

The software was feature rich and did offer a lot of information.

CONS

The install process is not as straightforward as I would have expected. It requires authorization so remote installs aren't really an option unless your employee will let them screen share during the process. Remote uninstall claims to be successful, but we found that it was still present and running. This has me concerned regarding privacy and security issues. It took our team nearly an hour to fully remove it, but still ended up wiping out all of our computers because we just couldn't trust having spyware in the healthcare field. Their support team was rude, defensive, condescending and less than helpful.

Reasons for switching to SentryPC

We had ample reason not to trust this software and found the lack of support frustrating.

Vendor Response

As far as SentryPC is concerned it is only a matter of running the installer. What sometimes causes trouble for customers, and I believe what happened in your case, is configuring your antivirus not to cause an issue with SentryPC. We are always here to assist customers in this aspect of the installation and will even remotely connect and do it for you if you wish. When you uninstall SentryPC your dashboard will update and tell you when the uninstall is complete for that device - at that point it is indeed uninstalled and no longer running on the device. With that said, there are settings files that we leave on the device after uninstall and I believe this is what you are referring to. These files make reinstall quicker and easier should you decide to in the future (not having to setup all your settings over again). If you wish to remove those files it is as simple as deleting SentryPC's installation folder - a few mouse clicks - certainly not an hour of time.

Would be great if it actually worked

Terrible. What works is great, but unfortunately the consistency is about 50%. Customer Service is non-existent beyond telling you how to bypass the anti-virus

PROS

The price is certainly attractive, and the dashboard/user interface looks good and seems easy to navigate. It has great features: keylogging, screenshot recording, user lockout, usb lockout, and most of these can be configured based on content (of a website), keystrokes, or even time of day.

CONS

It only works sometimes. In the most basic tests, it worked fine. I type something in a document or into a browser, and the software tracks it. Under other conditions, it didn't work consistently. If I left a document, did something else, and then came back to the document, the software might or might not record it. Same with a browser. Open the browser and type something in it; it works fine. Change tabs, windows, etc.; it's hit or miss. Most importantly, customer service was pretty much the same. Contact them to tell them you had a problem, and they're great. They respond right away and tell you how to bypass the computer's anti-virus. Contact them again with screenshots and details to show that the antivirus is not the problem, and they get rude, condescending, and blame everything on you. The answer to every question is just "You don't know what you're talking about." They even tried to tell me that it was physically impossible for software to work sometimes and not others; that's just not how programming works. Of course, if that were the case, there would be no need for updates or bug fixes.

Reason for choosing SentryPC

Because the had no trial package. It was one of the cheapest, and we had to purchase it to test it.

Vendor Response

Jon, SentryPC is an 'all or nothing' type of operation. It is either running on the device and functioning or it is not. When our support team told you this they were correct - it is not possible for certain features to work while others do not. If you were having trouble with your installation and/or antivirus I would expect that we offered to connect to your computer and do this for you. Yes, all software has the occasional bug and fixes and yes we do update the software with new features, changes, and so on. You can view a detailed 'change log' in your account that outlines the changes for every version released. You used keystroke recording as an example and sometimes customers are confused how this works. Keystrokes are not added one-by-one to your account, rather, they are added in groups. There are different 'triggers' built into the software that determine when a group of keystrokes is added to your account. It is possible, without knowing this, that it would appear keystrokes would not be working when in reality they are working just fine - that group just hasn't been trigged to add as a log entry yet. Adding in groups is easier for you as the customer when viewing these logs in your account - keystrokes amongst different windows/places are separate this way.

Only works on desktop - Horrible Customer Service

If you only need to use the tools for desktops and you are fine with not all the features working like they advertise then this could work for your environment. Otherwise, GO WITH ANY OTHER COMPEDTITOR where the feautes fully work, mobile support, and where the customer service want to help support their product and you.

PROS

Being that it is a cheaper option it works fine for desktop. The accuracy is off but it works in a pinch.

CONS

It only tracks/reports on mobile and nothing else which clearly goes against what they advertise on their whole Home Page as of 10/26/23. The app you download is clearly visible to the mobile user. The features on desktop don't fully work as advertised.Buyer beware, no refunds.

Vendor Response

Grant, There are multiple places on our site where we list what operating systems we support including the order page before the checkout process. On the features page we show icons next to each feature identifying what operating systems that particular feature is compatible with. You can also filter features by operating system on this page where non-compatible features are greyed out. At the top of the features page we have a 'comparison chart' link which shows a popup chart for quick and easy feature comparison between the operating systems. "The features on desktop don't fully work as advertised". You've never mentioned this in your support tickets with us - please get in touch with us and let us know what you are having trouble with.
