Save Time and Effort

I have used the model now for over 4 years, and my experiences have been very positive.

PROS

GeoHECRAS provides the features of HEC-RAS, RAS, HEC-GeoRAS, ArcGIS including the Analysis Add-ons, and AutoCAD in one software package, where you can actually see your model as you develop it, add or remove sections, edit bridges and structures, and plot the floodlines. The model includes all the features of these programs that you require for a complete model in one package.

CONS

I cannot think of any significant drawback in GeoHECRAS. As we issue our wish list to the CivilGeo, they proceed to improve the software.

GeoHECRAS is the BEST

I do quick studies, where FEMA mapping does not exist, to determine how much of a property is developable for potential developers. I size stream crossings for FEMA “No-Rise” situations. I analyze FEMA floodways where they would be impacted by crossings I size using the software. Mapping is updated by the click of a button for any changes.

PROS

I like the ease of use and fast productivity. I can set up a model from scratch and determine flood elevations in 4 hours. That requires selecting the orthophoto and importing a CAD file to use as a background, importing contours (or LIDAR), turning them into a DTM (which it does very fast), drawing the reach centerline, cutting cross sections, inserting a crossing (if needed), turning on FEMA flood data (FIRM info), determine base flows using USGS Stream Stats inside the software (faster than using a web browser), and I have base flood elevations and floodplain mapping in 4 hours! Technical Support is the best ever! They are always quick to reply to questions with a call. They call periodically to make sure all is well with the software. They provide updated software regularly that makes its use easier.

CONS

I have no complaints. If I ever have a need, they take care of it quickly. They are a pleasure to work with to solve any issues.

Reason for choosing GeoHECRAS

I have used the COE HEC-RAS for years. It is too slow and cumbersome.

Improved functionality for HEC-RAS but at a cost

Great customer service from CivilGEO. Improvements to a existing free software. Too expensive for most.

PROS

The additional features that have been added to the HEC-RAS. These features make analysis of the model results easier and more intuitive.

CONS

The subscription-based model of the software distribution. The annual maintenance fee is far too high for smaller firms to justify purchasing the product

Geo HEC-RAS for floodplain Analysis

I use the software almost daily in my current work experience to manage floodplain analysis projects. The software result is accepted by our clients, city, and regulatory bodies (like TRCA, LSRCA, CLOCA, etc). The floodplain analysis results were used to generate a regulatory floodplain map, cut/fill balance volume calculations, and report writings.

PROS

I like Geo HEC-RAS because I can easily model hydraulic modeling. Lates to import/export HEC-RAS file, CAD drawings, Visualize the HEC-RAS modeling, analysis, and see results. moreover, they have very supportive technical staffs who have rendered their technical support when ever I contacted them.

CONS

No, I don't remember for the time being. I like most of the features.

Excellent HEC-RAS interface, with LIDAR processing ability and great tech service.

GeoHEC-RAS has all the reliability and advantages of the HEC-RAS program, with several crucial extra features. These extras features have saved time and money for our company and clients on countless projects. The savings and convenience caused us to switch and the friendly, responsive tech service has kept us as loyal GeoHECRAS customers.

PROS

GeoHECRAS combines an easy-to-use HEC-RAS interface with the ability to use field survey data and use and process LIDAR. I have found the tech service to be fast, friendly, and responsive. If you have any issues or want to see a new feature, just let them know. I have been using GeoHECRAS regularly for over seven years. I have seen several of my requested features and fixes incorporated into the program. Switching from HEC-RAS to GeoHECRAS is easy and intuitive, since it the workflows are similar and the hydraulic engine is the same. GeoHECRAS models can be easily exported to HEC-RAS format when necessary (or when the client requires it).

CONS

I have used GeoHECRAS regularly for over 7 years and have run into a few problems here and there. Sometimes the problem was with the program, sometimes with my settings or data. Either way, tech service takes care of it quickly, usually within a few hours. When using GeoHECRAS, I generally find that the most annoying things are native to the HEC-RAS engine rather than the GeoHECRAS interface.

Reasons for switching to GeoHECRAS

GeoHEC-RAS has the reliability of the HEC-RAS hydraulic engine and report maker, with several crucial extra features. GeoHECRAS can use and process LIDAR data (without a separate GIS program), as well as conflate field survey data directly onto cross-sections. It turns CAD entities into terrains, centerlines, and cross sections with just a few clicks. These extras features have saved much time and money for our company and clients. The savings caused us to switch and the friendly, responsive tech service has kept us coming back.
