When this happens, the unit disconnects and stops transmitting vehicle updates and location data. - Key features are difficult to find, and the navigation between dashboards, safety inbox, coaching, and driver profiles is not intuitive. - Sometimes one screen (maybe camera screen) will say the driver is ON DUTY and another screen (hour of service report) will say the driver is DRIVING so it's not 100% uniform across the platform. I use it to look into vehicle locations, review trips, review driver logs and get information when something happens on the road. Having that information available has saved us time and has made it much easier to make decisions based on what actually happened rather than relying on incomplete data and assumptions. Samsara has definitely improved our visibility and accountability across the fleet. Being able to quickly see where a vehicle is and review what happened has made it much easier to manage day to day issues. The tracking information is especially helpful when we need to answer questions or investigate a situation without having to rely on secondhand information. #### Cons There is definitely a learning curve. Getting familiar with the system and all of its features can also feel a little overwhelming at first. Samsara has a lot of features, and it can take some time to figure out where everything is and how to get the most out of the system. We have now used footage to dispute damage claims and com out victorious. I am looking forward to the newer features that are coming out. #### Cons I least like the self-coaching feature. The safety department I am in is small, and we review footage daily, but do not have the time to coach each driver. So we can get drivers to a shop and most times have the issues diagnosed. Video footage has cleared our liability from several accidents. Reporting is good - but with all the information they collect it needs to be better. Driver - ease of use - drivers aren't the most tech savvy and we haven't had any drivers have any trouble navigate the app. #### Cons Samsara is a premium price - it gets expensive for small fleets - but the biggest issue is that they continue to come out with features and want to nickel and dime for every feature. The product is already really expensive - quit nickel and diming your loyal customers. Camera Quality is just OK. It captures the major stuff, but you cannot read a license plate on a vehicle driving 10 feet in front of you. Renewals/Licensing - this has to be the worst process of my entire life. The need to fire everyone in this department and start over. It is brutal to try and renew licenses. Customer Service - we have a sales rep, but we need a customer service rep. If we have issues you email/call the help desk. Level 1 can NEVER help and it takes days to get an answer. Since one of our primary functions with our operation is to enforce parking, our fleet and our large number of Enforcement Officers are vital to a successful operation. In the past we have been able to follow their route through Opsman, however, we were not able to see them in the vehicle. We were not able to monitor their speed, or the vast array of possible safety issues while operating the vehicle. Samsara has been an incredible asset to us for ensuring safety of our fleet on the road, reducing incidents with our drivers, providing support following an incident, and providing an avenue through which we can affirm, encourage, and reward our Enforcement officers for above average performance! When we first began using it, we had so many Safety Captures every day. Being able to see this, to share screenshots, download video captures, present these items to our drivers, has had a huge impact in a positive manner. Many of our drivers have now had 6 months or more of driving with no issues or with a 100 score. We present them with certificates and this has greatly increased morale and pride in their work. Samsara is very easy to use and navigate and provides incredible benefits to our enforcement operation such as tracking where our officers are at any given time, providing video footage when presenting evaluations or disciplinary action, etc. When there is any issue I just send out an email and get a reply from Samsara very quickly. They are quick to act when a problem needs resolution but there honestly have been very few issues. Samsara is a great value to our operation and worth the money invested. #### Cons The only issue I have observed with our Samsara program is that it is sometimes too sensitive. For example, it was capturing drivers for 'Possible drowsiness" where they weren't even yawning or closing their eyes. It is very helpful that you are able to adjust sensitivities with this software. Being able to see exactly where drivers are and track routes throughout the day makes dispatching much easier and reduces the need to constantly call drivers for updates. The cameras could still be improved, but overall I’m happy with the system. #### Cons I don’t really like the constant updates that slow things down, or the new features that show up without a clear explanation and often aren’t needed. The payment process is also a bit unclear. There are good things, but there’s definitely room for improvement. The IFTA reports could definitely be improved, as well as better control over speeding. I also want to mention the updates the data connection is limited, and with weekly updates this often causes incorrect hour calculations for drivers. When it comes to hours, this is a real issue, especially because Samsara is considered one of the best ELD devices in the USA, and my company uses it mainly because the logs cannot be edited. Because of that, Samsara should improve its services and make things easier for drivers, not force them to do “math problems” just to guess how many hours they will have. This platform has become a one-stop shop for most of my driver/truck related tasks. The data available for helping me build a strong safety culture is top notch. In addition to video snips that I can review with drivers, I am able to deep dive so many different factors (speed, accelerator on/off, etc) and supply so many hard data points to the drivers and help them see exactly what happened and why. In addition, the videos and data help me fairly dismiss an event when we find something triggered for the "right" reasons, which protects their safety scores. Example...a harsh brake event because a deer ran out in front of the driver. Harsh braking was the correct action. From an administrative perspective, reviewing DVIRs, HOS, driver efficiency, etc is easy and seamless. The menu layouts are well organized and intuitive. The system reacts quickly to my clicks with very little load time. The overview of my fleet is used daily to quickly allow me to see where my drivers are at any time. Trucks are often passed from driver to driver and the ability to make timing judgements based on where they are has been invaluable. Recently, one of my drivers was involved in a car accident, but I did not receive an accident alert. Instead, the only notification I received was a harsh brake alert. This suggests the accident alert functionality may not be working reliably. Second, for the route planning feature, it would be highly beneficial if we could be more precise when choosing the departure times for our drivers and other related schedule details.
