Bullhorn is a cloud-based applicant tracking and customer relationship management solution for small and midsize recruiting and staffing agencies. It offers email integrations, social media integration, reporting tools, mobile recruiting and passive activity tracking, and helps businesses manage contacts, track candidates, post job openings and fill open positions.

Bullhorn integrates with third-party email service providers such as Gmail and Outlook to send, receive and track communications. Users can view information about candidates from their inbox and access resumes, add notes, share details, create new tasks and schedule appointments. Bullhorn also integrates with LinkedIn Recruiter.

Bullhorn offers built-in reporting and analytics capabilities to help users track interactions with candidates. The configurable dashboard allows users to customize layout screens according to their preferences and helps to track business KPIs. Some of the additional features of Bullhorn are workflow management, job posting, mobile accessibility, social recruiting and data storage.

The system is pretty easy to figure out. Training on Bullhorn was not great but it is laid out in such a way new users can easily figure it out. Their Bullhorn library is quite good as well.

Cons

Customer service for a small business is terrible.
Implementation was awful and people doing the initial training did not really know the system capabilities at all.
No attention to detail - Named our company wrong and committed to do things they did not do just to give two examples.

I highly recommend this product for a full lifecycle recruiter. It is inexpensive and easy to use.

Pros

I love the way BH helps me track where my candidates are with my clients. It is also very easy to see when my customers need more resumes or we are not getting enough response. I also love the way I can organize candidates by job, client or status. It helps me knock out screening calls / submissions very quickly.

Cons

There are times when I am forced to go through a process in a certain way, especially when converting sales. We are a retained search firm and that section is set up for staffing or contingency firms. Also, the resume database search is not very accurate.

Do not get Bullhorn if you are a small recruiting firm

It looks great and it seems like it could be a great ATS. BUT.................................. as you will see that is about all I can say as a pro right now.

Cons

Once you sign on you find out there are all these extra costs for additional functionality. And they lock you in to a 2 year contract. This is NOT DESIGNED FOR a small recruiting firm. Especially if there is less than 3 of you. No matter how good it looks to you, don't do it. You will find yourself annoyed because you can't add certain features (like Linkedin integration) and when they do releases they don't just update the software, they make you request to update or add a new feature. What recruiter has time to do that? or sits around reading about their ATS. They just don't get it. Please save yourself time and money and look at an ATS designed specifically for your size of firm.

Pros

Bullhorn has a user-friendly interface with customizable features that made it fit our business. The CRM is perfect for the staffing industry and has helped our business improve with some of the available reports. Bullhorn Back Office completely changed our back office efficiency and eliminated a lot of administrative work for our Recruiters.

Cons

Some features are static that we do wish to customize. If the CRM becomes fully custom, it'll be perfect!

Pros

Cloud-based, compatible with Windows and MacOS. Compatible with multiple browsers. Highly customizable. They have an awesome support staff, and they respond very quickly.

Cons

It can take a little bit of time for someone who is not technically savvy to learn how the system works, but that is not a major con in my opinion.

Cons

I wish there was a way to combine tear sheets and a way to create tearsheets easier. When i find a lot of people i want to add to a tear sheet i have to do it one by one with the people in my email. Very time consuming.

Bullhorn becomes part of the fabric of your organization and definitely not something that you could live without.

Pros

Bullhorn helps to streamline the recruitment process by allowing your jobs, candidates and placements to all be in one place at your fingertips. You can create a simplified workflow on each entity so you can see what has been done, what stage the record is at and helps to keep your process on track. The reporting is easy to use and allows for follow up with your team members.

The list views are very easy to train and once you understand one, you can navigate easily through the system. Training becomes easy because the tool has a standardized look and feel.

Cons

There are a few areas within the application that you do not have the ability to configure. If these area had configuration ability it would be great. The overall application has tons of customization and configuration ability but those few small areas that don't really should be inline with all the other areas.

The software is user friendly and fairly easy to learn the basics. The reporting function is great for keeping personal track of your progress for any period of time.

Cons

It would be really useful if there was a better way to prevent duplicate accounts being created within the database, or if you were able to remove duplicate accounts. Also, searching within Bullhorn doesn't always work for some reason.

Cons

The software, at times, is a bit clunky. The product is not always updated to match the newer versions of Chrome, Safari, etc., and if multi-tasking, the program often crashes or becomes very slow.

It is GORGEOUS. The layout is beautiful, and easy to use. The color-coding makes it very easy to keep everything mentally organized.

The search feature is great, there are so many ways to broaden or pinpoint your search. When you pull up a search, the ability to sort by so many different fields is great.

Cons

I wish there was a trigger that goes from Active to Working and back to Active when they start and end a job. It takes so much time to go in and change people from Active to Working, so you don't offer them another job while they are on an assignment for you. But when the assignment ends, you have to mark them back to Active or you will never see them in your Active search.

What I love most about Bullhorn is not only the easy interface but also their partnership with vendors. They have a marketplace that allows you find so many great tools to help your business and they all integrate with Bullhorn!

Cons

They have some things that are hard coded that I wish we could change. Also, they tend to tell customers about new features and give a date that it will be live but it usually takes longer than expected. For example, they said the new version would be rolled out in July and when I spoke to them about when we would be getting it they said it would be closer to December.

Pros

Syncs real time. Shares info with others on my team. The layouts are customizable - like to be able to modify look an feel.

Cons

Security login/logout time is too short. Should be feature that each user can control. Not a big fan of having to reset/clear search criteria every time I do a new search. I would prefer that it automatically default to new search of entire database.

We have been more effective at filling positions since instituting an ATS.

Pros

Bullhorn allows us to keep notes on each candidate we work with as well as a record of which positions they have applied to and any feedback. It helps us to stay organized.

Cons

The system can be a bit clunky at times and frequently logs you out throughout the day, so you are forever entering and re-entering your login credentials. Sometimes the system will actually allow you go through the process of making a change before telling you have been logged out, so then you have to go back and do it all over again. There are also frequent errors with resume parsing.

Cons

Built-in reporting is non-existent with two addon options available, the first being a third party who can create reports for you, and another called Canvas - BullHorn's solution to the overall lack of reporting.

Cavnas:
Canvas is an in-house rebuild of Cognos Reporting suite however it has a lot of key features disabled, such as the ability for report creators to Cross-Join when required, edit SQL code to enforce certain report behaviour and some minor inconsistent functionality behaviour.
Any raised issues are handled well by our local AU support, however, the US Canvas development team are rarely able to provide long-term solutions.
As of 1/5/2017, I can't endorse Canvas as a complete or entirely functional product.

Training:
If you are moving from a system like JobAdder where the entire concept is around making the process as simple as possible and are making more fields mandatory, you'll need more than the basic BullHorn supplied training for your users to ensure the transition is smooth.

Data Display:
Some overarching data is unavailable in any form, such as "Last Contacted".
You can find "Last Note Added" and "Last Edited", however, neither of these take into consideration the Outlook Email integration they have in place. Which makes it difficult to determine the last time a contact was actually contacted in any way.
The solutions around this are poor.

I liked it but hated having to commit to lengthy contracts. Not completely intuitive to use. Really needs ongoing training to use efficiently.
