Great service with simple API setup

The easy-to-use API and webhooks enable our organization to process hundreds of background checks automatically. We would not be able to run at the scale we are without this ability.

PROS

Being able to configure webhooks directly in the dashboard makes it a snap to connect Checkr to external Applicant Tracking Systems. This makes implementation possible even in low- or no-code organizations.

CONS

Some of the reports and background check results can be difficult to interpret. Thankfully customer service walked us through all of it.

We were processing huge amounts of background checks and verifying them all manually. We needed an automated solution in order to grow.

Great choice for Planning Center integration

PROS

We use this as an integration with Planning Center to background check our many volunteers. It is quick and easy to use. I like that it provides an estimate of when the background check will be completed, allows you to cancel the invitation, and provides tags to filter the information for easy budget tracking.

CONS

The thing I wish they would change most is remove lines that contain cancelled invitations. It is a waste of space. I would also like to see the tags as a column on the Candidates page.

Misleading product descriptions

The product descriptions say that the background checks are sufficient for school district employees and teachers. However they do not provide the required fingerprinting level check for these position. So I wasted money that they will not refund on BG checks that don't actually meet the minimum standard for the industry. The customer service was no help and displayed no interest in resolving my issues.

Review for Checkr

I love it and I want to always be using it whenever I have to run a background check.

PROS

The big thing is that Checkr integrates with Greenhouse. It makes running and keeping track of these checks easy without having to hop into another system for tracking.

CONS

I can't think of anything, everything is super great and support has been helpful.

Reason for choosing Checkr

We took suggestions from our staff and they had really great things to say about Checkr. I've also worked at other companies before and Checkr is hands down the easiest and quickest to fill out. HireRite and GoodHire asked for info that I wouldn't have because a past company has either closed or have had several rounds of layoffs.

Easy to Use

Even their Customer Success leadership team don’t care

Trying to implement CC-MVR for more than half a year now and still not done. We’ve been through 3 different customer success managers, all seem to be disappearing whenever you’d follow up on something they said they would do. I reached out to senior level leaders multiple times and was promised help, but I have never felt as helpless with any other vendor I’ve worked with in the past as I am with Checkr. I went through the correct channels but nothing gets resolved. RUN AWAY AND GO WITH ANOTHER BACKGROUND CHECK SERVICE PROVIDER.

Great software for conducting background checks

Overall, its an awesome platform to integrate with your system for performing the hard manual work of doing background checks online.

PROS

Checkr provides a list of properly documented APIs which can be easily integrated with your system for performing background checks. The results shared by the APIs can then be used for making a decision on the candidate based on the background checks

CONS

Not much wrong about this software. It integrated nicely with your systems and for any issues which arise in integration, the customer can help you out for resolving those.

Wonderful to do background verification hassle free

Awesome experience. No paper work, any time results, more to digitialization, no need to store verification forms physically for future use prospective.

PROS

With this amazing software, can do background verification online. Saves time and more accurate. Just need to fill some basic information and required information is just a click away.

CONS

This is a new concept however not so popular. Need marketing of this.

Meets Expectations

Overall it's a good prodcut that meets my expectations. I get the results I need in the time frame that I need them, and that's good enough for me right now.

PROS

I am able to integrate Checkr with our current HRIS and start the process right from an applicants profile. I usually have a quick turnaround and easy to read reports.

CONS

There are so many different packages to choose from, sometimes it's complicated to know exactly what I'm ordering unless I log in directly to Checkr and then sort through the different packages.

Overall Checkr seemed to be less expensive and still provides what we need.

Checkr has been a great asset to our ministry

PROS

Integration with Planning Center, ease of use, ability to track the status of background process or if one is expired.

CONS

I wish we could add context to the initial email so that our volunteers know that it is coming from our organization and to be clear on what information we check and that we are using Checkr for our volunteers not for a job application. This has caused some confusion lately.

Background checks made easy!

It's been great overall! Definitely easier to use than other companies we've worked with in the past and the system keeps track of when re-checks are needed, which is super helpful and much more clear to us to keep us on track! Billing is straightforward and easy to change if needed. We're on autopay so it's easy peasy each month!

PROS

We switched from a different company last year and started using Checkr. It works SO much easier with our current organization software (Church Community Builder). From setting up an account, to adding users, to requesting background checks and tracking in the CCB system, it's super easy. Background checks are usually super quick to get results from. And the cost is a little cheaper than the company we used before!

CONS

We don't necessarily know all of the features that are available to us. Cost breakdown wasn't easy to find on the account website. Sometimes it's hard to find answers on the help section for what we're looking for. We just usually need general background checks for our volunteers and also employees and that's really it. I see there's more features in Checkr that we need to probably research and make sure we're utilizing things to our fullest so we will do that! For the basic needs we have, Checkr has been easy to use and the customer service is quick to respond and help when we have questions.

Reasons for switching to Checkr

Wasn't easy to track when we needed to do updated (5 year, etc.) checks. With long term employees and volunteers, we need something easy to track that for us and let us know when it's time to do a new check. Checkr is SUPER easy in this regard so that was the biggest reason for switching! Ease of use!

Customer Service discrepancies & constant issues; nobody Account Manager

Not a great first impression for us. A lot of email communication which is a time suck. No available customer service to remedy your issues in a timely manner. We've made the decision to look for a company that provides an account manager or live support.

PROS

The product is fairly easy to use and turn-around was very quick

CONS

1 - The Employment Verification section is all over the place. The timeline and description of what their process is within the background check results is very confusing due to the language/descriptions and time stamps they use. It really doesn't make a ton of sense and they need to fix it. You also have no idea what time zone they are referencing. 2- lack of CS teams understanding of our needs/inaccurate set-up + it all is done via email (you don't speak to a live rep). 3- Turn around time - I'm finding its taking 10+ rather lengthy emails back and forth to explain what I need...and still encountering background check errors due to wrong set-up. 3 - No live support. This is the biggest issue for me. It would be much easier to discuss platform issues with an assigned account manager. Consequently, I have to wait daily for a response from their CS team, and have several background checks that are in queue but can't be processed due to the background check packages not being set-up properly. This is also holding up our current background check process.

Best Background Check Software

We had an outdated program to run background checks with, but it was slow, pricey, and not very reliable. It was also not integrated to any other program, so once the results were out, they could be lost and we would have to pay all over again. Checkr solves all this and more. I am so excited to be using this program now.

PROS

This software was instantly my preferred choice because of its ability to integrate with our Planning Center and People software. I was easily able to run a background check on someone already in my database. It’s also a lot cheaper for the type of background check you’re getting than some other companies around. I was also impressed by the security measures it provides. You are able to choose between three packages, and you can opt for the more cost efficient one. However, if the person gets a hit, it will automatically run a more detailed check. Being that we are a church which lots of children, I appreciate it this measure a lot.

CONS

The only thing I didn’t like was the mandatory email sent to the person getting a background check. As per our church policy, they have to fill out a form and sign consent. However, Checkr then sends a mandatory email, and it won’t perform the background check until the person in question accepts via email. This is a tad redundant for our purposes, and really slows down the process, so I do wish the email was optional. However, everything else was a easy and straight forward.

As I said before, As me as a recruiter Checkr helps me to get valuable information from candidates I may get onboarded to the company.

PROS

I think that what I like the most about Checkr is the fact that almost everything is automated, I mean, I just need to send an invitation to my candidates and as soon as they submit all the necessary information and do what they need to do (For example to go and take their Drug screening), I will receive all the information that I need to get them onboard.

CONS

I would like to receive more appropriate notifications from Checker when it updates information about the candidate. I mean, I know that we can receive notifications from Google chrome for instance, but I would like to receive an email or a text message when what I said before happens. (I'm not sure if I can set this already)

Seamless and Accurate

This was such an easy transition for us to begin Checkr and integrate into our current database!

PROS

The ease of use and integration with our current church database (Planning Center) has made this tool our go to for all volunteer background checks. Knowing the accuracy and promptness of Checkr gives us and our parents ease of mind that we have done our due diligence in protecting our children.

CONS

There are some rare occasions where we have needed a volunteer to fill a Sunday morning role and the background check may not be returned instantly on late Saturday night or early Sunday morning, but that is such a rare moment.

What I liked most with Checker is all the criminal records is showing already so all I need to do is to review the cases/charges
