The product and service are top notch. An integral tool in my cloud-based bookkeeping business
The service - immediate, responsive and very helpful Set up options - I had help moving my initial clients from other software programs and Rise made the process really easy The day to day usefulness - I find Rise so much simpler to use than any other cloud-based options I have tried. If I need to make changes, I feel confident knowing I can do most of them myself and if not the support will be there for me Big Win - Rise is located on the West Coast which gives me and my clients with weekend cutoffs almost another whole day to get our info entered into the system
CONSThe only con I can think of is that there is no direct syncing to my Xero accounting software. I am hoping this is coming soon though!

Overall, I really like Rise and the issues I pointed out are not enough to make me think of switching to another platform.
PROSEase of setup and use. Very quick to learn and the support is amazing
CONS*It can be time consuming to create a report to get the exact information you're looking for.*Not all screens have the same functionality - search an employee: sometimes you can tab after typing the name, sometimes you have to hit enter*When you're entering time in the grid, the headers aren't locked in place, so you have to scroll up to see what column you're in when*Workers Compensation isn't configured to correctly calculate premiums for remote workers in other provinces - this results in manual calculations and lots of extra time. There needs to be a field that overrides the province of employment since the province of residence is what determines the WC rates.

Stay Away
Very poor and deeply disappointing. Companies like this give the software industry a bad name.
PROSThe promises that were made up from but never materialized.
CONSPossibly the worst experience I have ever had with a software vendor. Misrepresented and oversold up front. Exceptionally poor support.
Reason for choosing Rise
We were told there was integration with Netsuite this was actually listed on their website but did not exist. They removed the website reference later. Fortunately we know how to use the Wayback machine. There was no explanation when presented with this information. One of the reasons we chose Rise was that we were told a ATS module would be released shortly - did not arrive in the entire time we used the product.

First Impressions
I like that there are many features that are important and the user experience is great for the employees. The chat feature is great and I've always had a positive interaction with those I'm connecting with there. Those that are part of the help-desk team in the chat feature are wonderful. The Goals section of the software is really great.
CONSThere could be some improvements made with the software specifically with the time off approval flows of having tiered approvals and some more flexibility with the performance review section and check-ins. The implementation lacked effective communication and there were times where we felt abandoned. We also implemented Rise Health as our broker and I'm disappointed to say that this was a terrible experience. After speaking with the [sensitive content hidden] of Rise, it appears that many of the procedures that are supposed to be followed were not and we're still having issues with the implementation at two months post launch. Until Rise and GSC can work more seamlessly together, I would not recommend implementing Rise Health.
Reasons for switching to Rise
We were looking for a new benefits plan for our company and Rise Health seemed like a great option. With the free Rise Optimum Plan it saved us a lot of money. Additionally, the features that Rise offers within the performance section were superior to what we had with Humi.

It has been fantastic, overall. We have had high adoption rate with our staff who seem to like using this system. It has reduced our over all workload while also providing improved services to our employees.
PROSI most appreciate the all in one solution. It is great to have one to go place for all our staff management needs.
CONSIt is still a new company and from time to time things don't work exactly perfect. Some of the reporting options could be improved. But overall I can find the info I need. Looking forward to more integration with our accounting system.

Everything needed for payroll, stellar customer support
Customer support is far and away the best part of this software. If anything goes wrong they will fix it.
CONSThe main interface hasn't changed a lot since Paysavvy and is showing its age. When I sign in, automatically create the next payroll if it's due soon, rather than making me click "Create Next Payroll". When I add a new rule or click Save, don't force a refresh of the whole page, but persist as is. When I click Submit, skip the need to "View Results" and go straight to a summary report that has all of the information broken out. I always need the invoice data. Detecting statistical exceptions would be great. For example, I once accidentally entered all of employee's time for a pay period as both regular time and overtime. It would be nice for Rise to point out when an employee's hours are significantly different from their median. Web Service API access to the invoice data in particular is something I've wanted for a while. I have a script that scrapes this data and inserts into my accounting system, because it takes a long time to do by hand.

Rise is worth your consideration
Our experience with Rise hase been positive overall. Getting support via email or chat is sometimes frustrating but issues/difficulties are always addressed in a timely manner and followed up.
PROSWe use direct deposit payroll and have Rise pay our deduction payments to CRA.It is fairly straightforward to set up pension and benefit aspects of payroll.
CONSIt would be worth your while to find someone with payroll experience when fiest setting up your payroll. Customer Support is helpful but you will need to understand some payroll specific language.

Rise has solved the problem we set out to solve, with good support and a few rough edges
Rise allowed us to formalize and simplify our payroll system, which has been extremely valuable. Having gone to the trouble of getting set up on Rise, the ongoing work to keep our payroll system running is now quite minimal, which means payroll gets done, taxes get remitted, and we can get back to work quickly.
PROS- Rise has spent a lot of time on onboarding and support, and their support has also typically been quite responsive. - While Rise is a fairly complex system, once we got up to speed, our payroll workflow every month is pretty quick and painless. (I would expect this is the case for most users who have extremely simple payroll requirements) - Rise is free for smaller companies, which is a price that you really can't beat.
CONS- From time to time it's felt like we were interacting with someone who didn't have a great handle on the nuances of what we were trying to accomplish (particularly when we had questions at tax time), which has resulted in some hiccups around our payroll tax filing. Our support experience has often been quite good, but it's been uneven, depending on who we ended up talking to.

Payroll solution is good. HRIS is not.
It is clear that the company is not focusing on customer feedback in any capacity. I have escalated our very long list of concerns after 2 years and many of them seem to be complete news to development leadership. I really really wanted this to work out, and I think the company is trying, but I am not sure there is light at the end of this tunnel. There are better solutions out there for comparable cost - don't waste your time with Rise if you are looking for an HRIS. I would only recommend the payroll product.
PROSPayroll solution works well (intermittent EHT remittance issues aside). For an Ontario-based company with under 200 salaried employees, RiseHR payroll solution does the job well. Time Off user interface and employee end-user experience has been positive - employees like the tool and find it user-friendly.
CONSWe did not end up with a solution that was sold to us 2 years ago. The company focus switched entirely, several times and no new features or modules have been rolled out in two long years (no Performance, no ATS, no employee Onboarding, no Pulse Surveys). Not one piece of feedback has been incorporated, some very small, obvious and painful (like being able to report time off balances for current employees only or at least have a column of status by which to sort). Their website is still advertising benefits integration and pulse surveys, none of which are actually active modules currently available. The entire HRIS right now consists of Time Off and Employee directory (not even employee self-service right now). This is blatant misrepresentation.

Rise is Great!
Rise is so easy to use and has a great user interface. It is so simple to navigate through to system to find what I need. I love the payroll input sheet, it makes it so easy to make changes to payroll, and I can easily view changes to an employees pay without having to submit the entire run. Such a time saver! The Customer Support Team is also amazing, it is always easy to get ahold of them when needed.
CONSSometimes I will notice small glitches in the system, for example a date being in French when I have selected English for the system. Whenever I see something like this, the Customer Support Team is always able to investigate and resolve it quickly.
Reasons for switching to Rise
I have been using Rise for quite a few years (since 2015!) and have now used it for payroll for multiple different industries. It has always been the most simple system to use, so when I have the chance, I switch to Rise.

Best cheap option
Support has always been lacking here it can take days to get a response and payroll is time sensitive. I wish they had a call center or live chat available during business hours. This year the system made an error in my pay cycle dates and it got messed up no one at Rise was here to help i had to reach out several times because i had over laps of pay dates on employees pay stubs my dates didnt match up it was a mess. I got very basic email on how to fix it all MYSELF this was a Rise issue not mine i was shocked no one would help fix this. I also made a comment how this would then effect ROE's and possibly T4's throughout the year and it did. All ROE's were incorrect and again took days for Rise to respond how to fix this and it was again left to me to fix their error.
PROSThis is the best cheap payroll service on the market. Running payroll is simple if everything is set up properly. On boarding employees is simple
CONSSupport is not great can take days to hear back from support and when its regarding payroll time is of the essence. Running any type of off cycle payroll is extremely painful and never turns out right, taxes are always wrong and way to high. Having salary and hourly paid employees i have to have two different companies and have to run two payrolls each run would be nice if it was all in one payroll run.

Small but mighty.
As an HR department of one, a one-stop-shop is time saving and has eliminated the need for multiple entry of data across various platforms.
PROSBrokering a group plan for a collective of small group plans is BRILLIANT and offers a comprehensive and affordable benefits plan for small and medium sized businesses that otherwise would not be able to afford one.
CONSThe ATS is lacking and limited compared to its competitors in terms of functionality.

Not Worth it
What really bugs me is that they originally had rise lite (free), they then cancelled this and put everyone on their most basic package (They gave plenty of notice etc.) and pricing was phrased in a reasonable way (Fine with us) They don't breakdown how much they charge per payroll, so we never noticed how the bill was racked up. Depending on your business you will be spending MUCH more than competitors for a service that is only sub par. Mostly due to a poor customer support structure.
PROSReliable, once you figure it out. Having a hard time hitting the 40 word minimum here.
CONSUnintuitive, not flexible (If something needs to be fixed/ amended etc good luck), long gaps to pay employees. Free HR add on is a joke. Biggest con is the cost of this software and customer support. They offer email support that takes days, finding the number to call them is difficult and they don't technically offer it (You have to call sales and ask). It was ok when it was free, but paying a premium to be treated poorly....no thanks

Steer clear of Rise
We were brought on pre-pandemic and things at first were great! The onboarding, service and success teams were all fantastic. COVID hit, and they let go of all of their staff. It is impossible to get any kind of support or service from Rise. Which is compounded by the amount of errors that their system makes. BIG payroll errors. Government reporting errors. Vacation pay errors. We are embarrassed to be using this product because it reflects poorly on our brand to our employees. Do not buy Rise.
PROSThe benefits admin is fairly straightforward. This is the only decent feature of the system.
CONSMistakes, no service, billing errors, government reporting errors, cannot get a hold of anyone.

Review Of Rise Software
The process for biweekly payroll, T4s and ROEs are very easy to use. T4 reconciliations have always been a breeze and on the spot. The Rise People Team info@risepeople.com and their toll free 1-888-393-3483 & chat box are convenient avenues to get help.
CONSOur accounting software is Adagio, which is rather obscure, but predominant in the Non-Profit world. There is no integration to import payroll data directly in Adagio.

Easy to use, great customer service.
The processes for monthly payroll, year-end reconciliation, T4s, ROE, etc. are easy to execute. Any time I need to call for assistance, I've always been able to speak to someone immediately and resolve the issue on the spot.
CONSSome reports features can be improved, so is the interface for certain sections, can be more user-friendly & intuitive than current format.

Overall pretty easy to use.
What I like most about this software, it makes doing payroll easier. It takes care of all your payroll deductions and T4 information at the end of the year.
CONSWhat I like least about this software is the strange, unexplainable glitches. Also some of the reporting is hard to find or doesn't give you all the info you are looking for.

Very intuitive software
Save time and money!
PROSI find it very easy to use and the customer support - specifically live chat - makes it even easier if I get stumped
CONSOnly real issue is how long it takes the pages to refresh after you input, modify payroll. Also, report downloads take longer than I would like but I simply run it in the background until it is done :-)

Have used Rise since it came to us. Some good things and Some not so good things
Keeps track of most things for the people that work Monday to Friday. Able to write notes as to why that person had days off.
CONSI run a shop that works 24/7. Rise does not keep track of people working on Saturdays and Sundays. Hard to keep track of holidays and missed days.

PROSUser friendly - the custom reports saved me lots time while reconcile payroll on a monthly and yearly basis. Customer service - Whenever I need help, the support team is always there !
CONSWe did experienced few discrepancies while we transfer YTD into the system. Thus, at year end, we had some issues with CPP and EI YTD total. Also, for employee benefit , there were few errors in the input sheet. Rise can improve the accuracy in terms of manual adjustment

Best Customer Support I've Encountered
Payroll management is a breeze. We're just starting to use their recruiting and onboarding system and it's fantastic. If you hate doing things manually, Rise's platform will be your new best friend.
PROSIn the event that I've had an issue, Rise's customer support has responded to and solved the issue within a day or two at most.
CONSMobile functionality needs some love. It's almost completely unusable from my phone.
