The real benefit is a having modern fully integrated HR and payroll system which saves us time and applies our complex rules automatically. All the information is in one single place and we can put it in and get it out easily. Employees use it; managers use it; and our HR and payroll staff use it. With Umana we are able to pay our bus drivers (including route premiums, split schedule premiums, etc.), our maintenance worker (who get paid by job performed), and office workers and managers (who enter a timesheet), and even our elected directors without a hitch and applying all our rules. (And they are complex!) HR also uses Umana for hiring, termination, raises, and benefits. Seniority is by hours worked and by job group (for maintenance staff), and employees move to a new grade the day the reach the number of hours required. All this is handled automatically in Umana. Benefits are calculated automatically and flow through to the pay. Umana integrates with a number of in-house systems we had built prior to Umana, with both file imports and exports and web services. At RTL we have designed many custom reports and exports. Usually we can do them ourselves, but we know that the Umana team is always available to help us.
At RTL (Réseau Transport Longueuil) we have 650 bus drivers, 250 maintenance workers, plus many office staff and managers and coordinators. Our 3 collective agreements have evolved over years, with complex schedules, premiums, and holiday and vacation remuneration rules.
We are very pleased that Umana was able to manage them all. Benefits too. Umana also interfaces to our other existing systems and serves as an information hub. Our users find it easy and intuitive to work with.
