Workable is a standalone applicant tracking system that helps users find and hire the right people. The program replaces email and spreadsheets with a simple way of advertising jobs, receiving applications, filtering them, setting up interviews and making great hires.

Workable is a Web-based system with an intuitive design so users do not need a consultant or hours on the phone to get started. They can get up and running within 15 minutes, and nothing needs to be installed. Since the hiring begins by spreading the word about the position, the program provides advanced job listing tools that publish one submission across a host of the most popular job boards from a single screen.

Once applications start rolling in, Workable allows users to keep track of possible hires and important data. With no data entry required, the system automatically compiles applicants' resumes and social media accounts and presents them in complete applicant profiles, including pictures to help users remember applicants in every stage of the hiring process. Email notifications are also sent whenever users receive new applicants, so users can see where each potential hire falls within the pipeline. From there, the process for browsing, screening and interviewing applicants is streamlined within one cohesive program.

Workable is an amazing product and it is ideal for recruiting in a professional work environment. I would highly recommend.

Pros

The program is easy to understand and use. The program offers flexibility in designing communication templates and the application. I appreciate the ability to directly link to my calendar.

Cons

Though I believe Customer Service has done a very nice job of helping me learn the system, it can be frustrating when I am looking for an answer quickly. Communication starts with an email or chat session which is not often returned until the next day.

This is a great product and I'm very frustrated that in a very short time they have cut out the smaller companies with their pricing. I really had not planned on looking at other ATS systems but worry what else is ahead for the "legacy" users.

Pros

Up till now I have been very happy with this product. New enhancements have slowly been coming out and when a bug is found it is reported and fixed in acceptable time. Support is very reactive and easy to work with. When I chose this software, I liked that they charged by the job and not by the user, since I'm the main one that uses it with 6 others using the interview part of the pipeline and we only need about 10 jobs at one time.

Cons

For my small boutique consulting firm, what turned out to be a pro has now turned into a con. the cost is the main issue.

Great vision for a recruiting software

I love the people search feature. If you guys can fix its limitation would be great.

Pros

It integrates talent search with the hiring pipeline.
When you identify a talent with "people search" you can access to his/her information from all the main social networks like Linkedin, Facebook, etc. Contact information is the most recently used.
Customer service is eager to answer all the questions.

Cons

"People search" doesn't show a lot of the people that should be able to find. For example, I searched for QA Engineers in my City and did not identify at least 15 people I know are working as so for more than 5 years and are registered as so in many networks like Facebook and Linkedin. This makes me think that the people search feature doesn't work properly.

I like that they are constantly working on improvements and how easy it is to use. Although they are never the first software to develop a product offering or an idea, they seem to always add features to improve the product offering.

I wish the people search functionality worked a little better or there was access to a resume database similar to indeed or zip Recruiter.

Pros

- Easy to set up and use, but lacks features for its price range
- Workable started out well, but there are many hidden hiccups and charges. Not worth the effort for something this expensive.

Cons

- Lack of Customer Support, they will force you to pay extra to use something you have already paid for
- Lack flexibility, you are forced to pay upfront. If you choose to 'pay as you go plan,' you will miss out on many functionalities and will have to pay more
- Predatory business model, they are here to make $$$, not to retain their users

Solid first step into the land of ATS.

Support it tops. The basics are all there for us to ramp up and adjust our recruiting to demand. No worries at all recommending this tool.

Pros

Straightforward, easy to use - support was very responsive and really helped me get up to speed fast. Pay per job model is excellent for a startup like us.

Cons

We're on the pay per job model so we pay for each position that we advertise. However I wanted to put up a 'General' job for people who don't see a posting to apply to and give them an opportunity to posit their reasoning for working with us. I'd have to pay for this extra job (which is kind of like a open-ended question) so instead I just put an email address up for people to shoot to if they want to try. Would be nice if I could just not advertise that job and have it sitting open on our website.

customizable application steps, posts to indeed, multiple users allowed without additional cost, easily syncs with gmail for retrieving email replies and tagging them to the candidate, retrieves social media profiles, able to customize questions on the front end

Cons

can only access candidates in active jobs, cannot set to-dos for follow up with candidates (have a few workarounds, but they aren't great - tags and snoozing a candidate). Hard to be proactive without time sensitive tasks.

Pros

Workable is a great tool for companies just starting to open roles to recruit with. It's a customizable solution, with an ease of use, and an engaging UI that both beginners and experts can appreciate. The price point is also very reasonable.

Cons

The product is pretty basic. Newer ATS systems are popping up with ways to enhance sourcing where as Workable didn't have all the bells and whistles that other ATS systems are incorporating.

The Easiest Applicant Tracking Software to Figure Out

We're a startup with less than 15 people trying to hire 4-5 more. We have two people in charge of recruiting.

After getting in touch with other ATS' (Lever, BreezyHR, Jobvite, HiringThing, the Applicant Stack), we went with Workable. This is possibly simply because most of those other softwares put me into a sales cycle queue, and I had to wait 3-4 days before I could talk to someone or see a demo. Meanwhile, Workable lets you sign up for a trial, and gets out of your way. I figured everything out on my own in 20 minutes. I think this is a testament to how well built their UI is-- you don't need a 30 minute handheld demo to figure it out, unlike other ATS (apparently).

To compare, BreezyHR was also fairly intuitive, but we liked the feel of Workable better. Lever is also VERY beautiful software, but we got quoted around 6k/year (no monthly option). Meanwhile, Workable, is 200/mo for 4 jobs (monthly, not annual contract), and has 98% of the same functionality. Lever, based on the demo I got from their very nice saleslady, seems better if you're a big company where you need help streamlining communication quickly between departments, or want help auto-nurturing your recruited candidates. That just wasn't us, we're smaller and only hiring 4-5 people right now.

Workable was easy to figure out, responsive, customizable, and I liked the monthly pay option. I would recommend it to any startup or small company, without any hesitation.

Also, if you're recruiting...the real Workable seller is the People Search function. I almost don't want to talk about it, because I don't want other people to know about it.

Pros

-Incredibly intuitive interface
-Upfront pricing that's easy to understand and reasonable (not great, but reasonable)
-Customizable pipeline
-People Search Chrome extension is INCREDIBLE and no one else has it.
-Easy, one step posting to multiple job sites (free and premium)
-Custom links so applicants can apply from anywhere and still end up in your pipeline.
-On/Off mode: You can pay monthly when you're hiring, and stop when you have no active jobs. You won't lose your data.

Cons

-A few bugs (software doesn't always fetch a photo when you put in an email, even if it finds multiple social profiles)
-Customer Support isn't immediate (you have to email, but they usually respond in <6 hours)

Not suitable for US employers - a UK based company

Good product but bad policies and customer support.

Pros

Good system if you are in Eurpore or outside of US and you have time to deal with their helpless customer support.

Cons

- They bill US companies from their UK system for which your bank will charge international fees. They do not make this clear at any point when you pay. You might be able to see these charges on your statement from the bank though.
- Not a user-friendly system. System does not
- Confusing plans & subscription: They will enroll you for the trial with 10 slots for ads but upon expiration you have the option to subscribe to pay-as-you-go plan. If you do subscribe, the system does not clarify that you cannot use job slots with this subscription. Once you buy subscription for a job you cannot switch it to the other jobs which is totally different from what you get during trial period. If you now try to switch archiving the job to switch, they will not let you un-archive the job which you have already fully paid. You will be dinged for that money which you paid and guess what their fees are non-refundable. By US standards this company would be almost illegal to not provide services after getting paid. Their customer support will not un-archive the job either but they will direct you to pay for the job again!

Cons

Candidates must post to a particular position. Sometimes what they want isn't posted, and it would be nice if they could submit an app to just the company in general and not a particular job.

If you only need a few roles, and you want something super easy to use with basically no learning curve, this is a great option. If you need 5 or more open jobs at all times, you might benefit from shopping around.

Pros

Workable was VERY easy to use - the buttons are where you want them to be, it's easy to create new roles, emails, etc. My favorite piece was the clean/easy dashboard. An unlimited user is a nice feature. The scorecards are awesome and easy to use, and they are creating new helpful features like this all the time. Gmail integration works well.

Cons

Workable's pricing structure isn't conducive to our needs anymore, it's gotten expensive for the platform that it is. There's no email automation aside from template creation, you can't create different pipeline stages for different roles - you are stuck with one pipeline for all your reqs. Outlook integration does NOT work well.

- My experience is positive but we are limited in our capabilities. We are looking for an overall recruiting tool that tackles the candidate experience and allows us to maximize on our pool. Workable is good for a basic recruitment tool but may not be the best if you are a growing company with over 100 employees and need something more robust.

Pros

- Good design and easy to use

Cons

- You have to buy jobs slots in bundles instead of being able to post unlimited roles
- If you have a candidate that you want to upload that does not fit a role and you want to put them into a project of others like them, there isn't an option for that
- The reporting is very basic
- There isn't really anything there to survey or measure candidate experience
- Cannot post for different company divisions under the same bundle
- if you have different brands and need to purchase two accounts, cannot link the pool on the back-end to quickly check for duplicates

Unable to stop automatic renewal

This is a useful product however there is no way to stop automatic renewal unless you downgrade the account to a basic version straightaway and lose the remaining time you have left. They are basically penalising you for stopping automatic renewal. This is a manipulative technique meant to encourage you to stay on and then banking on you forgetting to renew the day before your licence is due for renewal.

It makes the hiring process so much easier! Everything is in one place and it takes care of the posting for you! You can track your applicants from their application all the way through the process to hiring! We absolutely love it.

Cons

Connecting outlook email is complex, the integrations with jobs boards are not very robust. Seems like you are paying full price for less than what you could get by going directly to the source.

In order to repost a job, you have to create an entirely new post, meaning that candidates can't be tracked in the same req. Along the same lines, there is nowhere to store candidates who have expressed an interest in your company without assigning them to a specific role. I would also love to see a more robust search feature and reports. Linkedin profiles are sometimes not matched with the correct applicants, but that's rare. The only other thing that would make this nearly perfect are the addition of a few additional job boards.

It's simple and easy to use. Easily posts to external job boards with just a click. The employer careers pages are simple and clean- could be more customizable and interactive but the product is fairly cheap compared to competitors.

Customer service is FAST and always helpful. We've been with workable since the beginning and they've taken our feedback into consideration.

Cons

The only real downside is the database search is somewhat cheap. I'm a huge pipeline recruiter- their hashtags to categorize help but a boolean search function would be awesome.

I can easily review more qualified candidates when they apply for an open requisition.

Pros

What I like most about Workable is that I can use assessments to help score and rank higher qualified candidates when we post requisitions for our organization. In the past we have to review each candidate separately make the decisions if we wish to invite the candidate for an interview, refer them to another open requisition or send them a rejection letter. With the assessments that we can build and attached to the requisition our candidates will apply for a open position and will have to complete those assessment. We can then view their ranking and easily decide if that candidate is worthy of a interview. We like how we can track our candidate resume and also view their social media sites like LinkedIn. We feel with Workable we have hired more qualified candidates that provide immediate value to our organization from the first day they begin employment with us.

Cons

Sometimes the candidates have the resume in a another format that is difficult for us to view in Workable. This rarely occurs but enough to mention it as a dislike.

Organised hiring, plain and simple. SO much better than using a google doc and I haven't seen another ATS as clean and user friendly as Workable.

Pros

We've been using Workable for a couple of years now and I cannot recommend it highly enough. A great tool for keep track of job applicants and conversation threads. Super easy to use and not too expensive. Good job my Greek friends!

Customer support hasn't always been brilliant and sometimes it's hard to find the right person in the organisation to talk to.

Easy to manage, collaborative-friendly recruiting software.

Pros

Super user-friendly software with little to no learning curve. I love that you can schedule to your Outlook calendar straight from the website. Pre-screen filters are quick to implement and highly effective. Very easy to collaborate with multiple personnel involved in hiring without accidentally providing access to postings they should not see.

Cons

Prices are high! Price per posting compared to competitors like BambooHR or ZipRecruiter are significantly higher.

The ease of use allows me to track my applicants in the most effective way. Workable saves me time in recruiting, with the options of templates, background checks, assessments, and other integrations.

Pros

I really enjoy the ease of use. Everything is laid out in such a way, that you can navigate easily. I've trained a few people to use Workable, and they picked it up quickly. They also have many integrations that improve the value. The customizable pipeline is great, and they offer templates you can write, or use their provided ones. They have the option to drag and drop a resume, which will upload a candidate. I use this feature frequently and it is the quickest and most effective I've seen. Overall, Workable has the features I want most in an ATS.

Cons

The reporting is not my favorite. They have many options for reports, but you cannot customize all of them, which makes it harder to track the lead sources in depth. I wish there was a better rating system, currently, I can do thumbs up or thumbs down, but I find many candidates don't fall into either of those two categories.

I like the parsing algorhytm of Workable: just enter the name and candidate's email and social profile's information will be parced from the net. Easy upload of CVs, great candidate management, erase of duplicated entries and check of CVs for duplicates, great system for team work, notices, shortlisting etc.

Cons

Too many functions and you need time to discover and use all of them. Not very clear pricing structure for packages and paid functions.

I've used Workable on several different occasions and each time it did not disappoint me. It's a great way to find employees and to ensure they fit your criteria. The only downside is it tends to be more geared towards bigger companies, not the small guys. It's always quite expensive so I usually do a monthly membership and cancel once I found a new hire.

Workable is a great tool for tracking and building out recruitment funnels. There are some irregularities, such as issues where LinkedIn profile duplicates are not recognized when uploading a candidate via a link. With a large team, this adds an extra step to every upload by needing to double-check the system for a candidate prior to making an upload.

Room for Improvement: Build out the Chrome extension to immediately recognize duplicates straight from the browser.

Pros

* Able to build out recruiting funnels/hiring process.
* Wide variety of analytics to track recruiting KPIs.
* Candidates can easily be tracked throughout the process.
* Quickly pull up social media information.

Cons

* Gmail conversations do not always sync, which leaves you needing to use Workable.
* Duplicates are not recognized by the system.
* Social media information is not always accurate.

Advice to Others

90% of recruiters make a hire through LinkedIn, but social media is becoming increasingly important for job seekers. I would tie in the ability to search social media profiles from the browser, and search for system duplicates from the browser.

This is my first experience with Workable and it has performed beyond my expectations! We are a rapidly growing tech company and as such have increased our hiring needs. We are trying to streamline our hiring process and increase efficiency for those involved. With no training and just a brief overview from my HR dept I was able to quickly and easily access my job posting, review applications and weed out the next level applicants. Whether passing to the next step (which is customizable by the way) or declining the applicant it is very simple to organize the hiring process. The mass email feature is also extremely helpful for contacting applicants about the next steps, or form "thank you" letter. This is a really intuitive system, they've done a great job!

Pros

Very easy to navigate, I like the quick view of applicants and stages and I like that I can click any one of them to see who’s in that stage. Very intuitive, little to no training needed

Haven't found any cons at all

i've hired more than a dozen people using workable in the last 6 months.
it's convenient but you may find it a little expensive unless you're constantly hiring.

Pros

a single inbox for everyone involved in hiring
predefined (& user customizable) templates make it easy to send single/bulk emails
intuitive user interface
free (&paid) postings to multiple job boards

Cons

pretty expensive for what it is. they deprecated their cheaper pricing tier.
craigslist has workable as one of the ban words

Advice to Others

see if your startup is eligible for Facebook's FBstart program. you may be able to receive some complimentary subscription.
