Drupal Software

Drupal is cloud-based open source content management system for content authoring and content publishing websites. The platform offers functionalities such as merchandising, content creation, reporting and content sharing.

Drupal’s content architecture feature allows professionals to create content workflows to manage the content creation process. Further, the platforms enables content marketers to tag relevant keywords which increases content visibility across search engines.

Multisite management features enable users to customize a website’s content according to geography, brand and marketing campaigns. Drupal also enables website designers to display content in different formats, such as PDF, video, HTML and Flash. Also, the platform helps marketers to launch promotion campaigns and offers tools to help with search engine optimization (SEO) management.

Drupal allows users to create web applications that can be viewed on mobile devices including smartphones and tablets. The solution integrates with Facebook, LinkedIn, MailChimp, Twitter, Zendesk and Box.

Besides all the extra components available, there is a vast option of templates, commercial and free ones, that you can get.

Pros

The main advantage of this product is the capacity of integrating the platform with others. On can build for example a web site and use it as a hotspot for wireless access.

Cons

It requires a bit of a learning curve in the beginning, but once you grasp it a bit is easy to get going.

Pros

It's been around forever and is completely trusted by many. It's 100% free to use. It's easy to use. Ideal for first-time content managers.

Cons

No cons at all, I just started off as a WordPress user and did not want to switch over to what I am so use to using. It's either one or the other. You can't use them both unless you are using it on a separate website.

Pros

Drupal is a good alternative to WordPress if you don't want to be one of the typical WordPress users. They offer quite a bit of variety and more custom code than WordPress as well.

Cons

Drupal is NOT user-friendly. Finding pages and stuffing content takes so much longer than necessary. There are also odd requirements on different modules that really don't seem necessary and only make is a longer process than it should be. Simple things like saving a page or going back to your previous page are borderline impossible. Overall, I would always choose WordPress if you are building it for a less than genius user.

Pros

Drupal is so powerful when it comes to features and modules you can add or create, is a flexible CMS which can let you do any kinds of projects

Cons

The learning curve is something to be aware of, at first can be overwhelming if you compare the ease of use against other CMS like wordpress. It's recommended to know PHP if you want to customize templates or create modules of your own.

Drupal is a Sloppy CMS and Difficult for the USER

Ease-of-use

Functionality

Customer Support

Value for Money

I have been programming and designing websites for well over 20 years. I have built sites in Drupal and of all the Content Management Systems out there, this is the least recommended by our company. The idea behind a Content Management System is to help the client/user manage their own site and keep costs down. With that in mind the interface is sloppy and difficult for the user in comparison to other CMS systems which are superior to Drupal in every way. In addition, the cost to build a Drupal site versus a Joomla or Wordpress site is nearly 3 times the cost and I attribute alot of that to the interface. You can build just about anything you need using Joomla and I would highly recommend you don't consider Drupal unless you want to spend a great deal of money.

Pros

Wide range of program capabilities
As a Senior Developer, I cannot really recommend this software because of the difficulty involved for the client/user

Cons

Very difficult to teach the client/user to manage on their own
Very expensive for the client/user in terms of cost to the developer and software
Sloppy interface for the user

For simple sites that you need to hand over to non-technical people, Wagtail might be a better bet.

Pros

Drupal is a powerful CMS engine that has many features, and is quite customisable to suit your needs.

It might not be the best platform to use if you're building a site for someone else who isn't very technical. There is a learning curve and some frustrating idiosyncrasies with the platform.

If you want a higher tech and more capable website, this is great. For something simple, I'd stick to Squarespace.

Pros

It's highly organized, has a lot of capabilities, has higher end features for loading that give it a unique spin beyond what Wordpress or Squarespace can do.

Cons

Not intuitive whatsoever. A lot of configuration and placement have to be done manually versus a drag and drop feature.

Drupal - An easy to use "anything you need" publishing software

Value for Money

It can be anything you need, from a intranet project to keep a log of what it´s done and need to be done, to complete websites with integrated galleries and so on. We run it for many purposes and recommend it to everyone.

Pros

The main advantage of Drupal is it´s flexibility and easy integration with other platforms. It can be used just as a blogger platform, as it can also scale to a full blown website, integrated with customer support, or it can be a Hotspot page where your clients can sign up to gain access to the internet.

Cons

Not so easy to configure. I don´t mean installation, as it´s easy to install, but you need to configure it well after so you don´t run risks (just as any other platform would be).

Pros

Great free product, could be better designed in the UI department, however.

Pros

I like the fully featured easy to use content management system - the advanced features that are available and that it costs nothing!

Cons

I like how the team improved the UI in the latest versions, however I think it could do with a professional designer's input and design to make it polished and look 100% clean, easy to use and a bit more attractive to look at.
