Squarespace review

Ease-of-use

Value for Money

Squarespace is easy to use and easy to connect DNS settings, It generally takes 24 hours for a site to go live after the DNS settings have been connected.

The templates are beautiful, you can choose anyone and upgrade to either personal or business, I suggest business.

The trial is 14 days but that is usually enough time to create a site since you are usually just replacing images and text.

Pros

Squarespace is amazing if you are not familiar with code, it has a drop-and-drag function and many visually appealing functions, You can also add additional things like promotional popups (which is your subscriber block that pops up when you open a site), Facebook pixel, google analytics, connect MailChimp to collect a database and ad words.

With Squarespace your images won't be converted to low res, you can also add videos but these videos have to be connected via a third party such as youtube or a video service. The best thing about Squarespace is their customer service, their live chats. These experts help you with your issue and if they can't help you with the solution you were hoping for, they suggest alternative methods.

SEO is amazing.

Cons

The business package is expensive and if you don't have a business package you can't use a mobile info bar, place a Facebook pixel on the backend of your site and you also can't use Mail chimp to collect a database or a subscriber list.

The e-commerce site is not available in rands yet.

You also can't have an except dropdown on a page, this is a problem is you have long text and want a "read more" option. You can use anchor points but only if you are paying for a business plan.

You also can't have a video on a banner if you are viewing in on mobile.

Add nested folders.

Pros

Squarespace is such a magnificent tool to build websites. They make it so easy to find a template and build from there. The tools are easy to use and can be learned almost instantly.

Cons

The fact that there are still no nested folders is a bit frustrating. However, Squarespace makes it so easy to use - nested folder can be overlooked.

Pros

As a wedding photographer, my website is many times the first point of access for potential clients. Squarespace has helped me, extremely easily, build a fully-customisable site to showcase my work, keeping my photography front and centre. There are dozens of templates to choose from, and the page builder is made in a way that even someone that isn't too tech savvy would be able to make their website from scratch. Their customer support team replies to queries within a few hours, and their pricing is very reasonable.

Cons

My only downside with Squarespace is that some very basic design functions, such as font sizes, vary so greatly between certain templates. For instance, the template I currently use doesn't give me the option to change the size of the normal text font, but only lets me change the size of the body text as a whole, altering headings in the process. This is a minuscule problem, and I easily found a way around it.

We love this tool , its great. We can add multiple emails, so that everyone on the same page. If one fails to attend, the other can complement. We get request information, customers can be contacted easily and proper arrangements can be made

Not very popular though, a lot more advertising is needed. I am glad, the pop up window came in the side panel of Yahoo!, probably it will attract more businesses.

Pros

Good for smaller mom and pop operations or a secondary store for marketing purposes
Fairly easy to use for the laymen
Not super expensive as carts go
Some minor marketing advantages

Cons

If you want a professional store to be a part of your site, this is not the way to go at all. You would be best suited to have your developer build a cart that is part of one database and part of your site to bring traffic to your site directly.

Value for Money

Overall, I think Squarespace is great for making websites for non-profit and educational audiences alike!

Pros

My favorite thing about Squarespace is the ease of use - no one on our project team has the expertise to create a website from scratch, but with Squarespace, we're still able to make stunning looking web pages. Their customer service is also very quick and responsive whenever we have a question. It's a much better service to use than any of their competitors I've tested out.

Cons

The only con I have is that they have limited support for Search Engine Optimization (SEO). We were looking into improving our SEO so we could appear further up on Google search results, but couldn't really do much with our current website.

Squarespace was very easy to learn and the templates were robust enough to fit my immediate needs. Their knowledge base articles are 2nd to none and very informative while managing to be succinct at the same time. Purchasing a domain through Squarespace was extremely easy and seamless as well.

Easiest and most capable web builder

Ease-of-use

Functionality

Product Quality

Customer Support

Value for Money

Pros

It has a lot of beautiful templates for different reasons like blogs, ecommerce or portfolio, with different layouts. For free! And to buy a better template is still cheap. Templates are easy to install. It's intuitive to lay things out like images or objects. Not to mention it's cheap to host and buy domains and to sync up.

Cons

Some things are not obvious like linking a blog to a blog carousel-- it would be easier to just have a button that does that instead of me have to drag things to unlinked/linked. It does require a little bit of developer savviness to figure things out that are in front of you but won't necessarily need.

Pros

I was able to use Squarespace to quickly put together a personal website that looked extremely clean and had a bare minimum of complicated set up. I got numerous compliments on the quality of the site despite having no experience with website building or design.

Cons

Some of the menu options are not as intuitive to find as I might like. The best example is when I needed to add different menu headings on the site (I.e., About Me, FAQ, etc.): it’s located under “Pages,” which does make a degree of sense, but it’s not the most intuitive and I constantly forgot how to get there. Also, to my memory, while the analytics page was good, it didn’t allow you to filter for custom dates, instead being last month, last week, etc.

Ecommerce function is lame. Also wish the blog feature had more in common with LinkedIn than WordPress. I don't want to log into pages every d#mn time, if you know what I mean.

Pros

If you don't have any clue what you're doing or what you want, use Squarespace. It's hard to get lost when you don't have a destination in mind. If I was a restaurant, musician, or anyone else that just wanted to "get her done" I''d use this in a heartbeat... though with all the competition out there, I'd do my homework first.

Cons

If there's something that you'd like to tweak or make your own, you're pretty SOL'ed. Sure there's the opportunity to code at your own risk, but surely in 2017 we can find a true happy medium, no? Loading times were also slow which means I spent a good deal of my build time watching the circle of buffering death spin. Frustrating.

It has been awesome! Many of the sites created for organizations have received accolades for the look and speed. This is in part due to the selection of templates as well as the flexibility to meet the organizations needs and expectations of how they want their business to be portrayed.

Pros

The price, the amount of templates available, the quick learning curve, the ability to share editing responsibilities based upon permissions, the flexibility in editing a templated page for a specific need and the ongoing tips provided via email. I also appreciate how quickly I am able to launch a new site (as long as the content has been provided by the organization).

Cons

There are times when I would like to edit a templates code directly however we are relegated to only making tweaks via the Style Editor. Knowing this now, I am no longer frustrated and go into a new website creation and launch knowing this drawback.

Pros

Squarespace has a substantial but not overwhelming selection of themes, each offering different degrees of customization. The builder interface is simple and intuitive, and adding blocks of content, spacers, modules, and components is as easy as it gets.

Cons

Because the selection of themes is not as exhaustive as some other CMS/website builders, users are—by design—limited in their choice of a starting point. The result is that, unless the user is willing to devote a substantial amount of time to customizing their design, their website will look more or less exactly the same as every other website that began with the same theme. For some users, this is not a deal-breaker, especially at the price point, but other users may find that their time is better spent on their business, hobby, or craft.

I'm a very satisfied user of the product. It helped our business launch a few brands quickly and with high quality output.

Pros

In my experience, this is the best website builder for junior level to mid-level graphic designers. But senior level designers shouldn't sleep on the Squarepsace either. It's very capable of handling custom designs which in turn help you build a fully branded website for personal or client work. And they continue to add more and more features to support the needs of these higher level designers.

Cons

Squarespace, in the end, still needs an internet connection to design your websites. Maybe an offline-mode would really help especially remote workers who could have spotty internet connection.

Lots of trial and error with little reward.

Pros

Squarespace takes pride in developing great looking layouts, especially those that focus on imagery. They make it easy to create a beautiful website that can showcase your portfolio or store to the best of it's ability.

Cons

Squarespace caters to those using heavy imagery. If you're trying to make a lifestyle blog, for example, you better come prepared with great photos. The layouts aren't very intuitive and can be hard to manipulate. There's also some basic functionality missing if you're a blogger looking to monetize your blog. This is what ultimately led me to switching to Wordpress.

I sell photography on one of the sites and it only allows for a photo of up to 20mb which when you shoot everything on RAW you have to knock the MB's down which hurts the photo some

This is the second system we used for a website and we are very pleased with this so far. We have been using it for just about 2 years.

Pros

This website replaced our previous GoDaddy website and we love the modern design and ease of use. The price is great too, we pay an annual fee and customize the website ourselves. You can pay more for better features, but we do not sell anything online, so a basic website is perfect for us. This provides unlimited space and pages as well.

Cons

Since this is a template based site, sometimes this limits what you can do, unless you know how to get around this. We have been completely happy with the overall use of this product.

Pros

Squarespace is a easy-to-use website builder for those with limited programming experience

Cons

Feature set is very limited, compared to building a custom site or a more rigorous website builder like Webflow, so your site will look basic and formulaic

My overall experience was rewarding and as a designer my website is modern and professional!

Pros

I love that you can customize your personal website to be whatever you like.

Cons

I don’t like that the trial version isn’t long enough.
