DEAR Inventory is a cloud-based inventory management software for small and midsize retailers and wholesalers. The product features modules such as e-commerce, manufacturing, purchasing, sales, inventory management, and accounting.

DEAR Inventory allows businesses to create, plan and track each phase of the purchasing process. The solution reminds users to reorder stocks in time to avoid a situation of stock-out. Organizations can see all purchase orders with specific reports for pending purchase orders and purchase cost analysis. The software records supplier-purchasing history along with product cost to help the user make an informed decision about purchasing next batch of products. The manufacturing module tracks the cost of raw materials and labor and creates a multilevel bill of materials/ subassemblies.

DEAR Inventory supports many inventory management functionalities, such as serial numbers, batch/log tracking and expiration dates. Inventory aging reports help organizations gain visibility into upcoming expiration dates of products stored in a warehouse.

DEAR Inventory integrates with accounting, e-commerce, and shipment applications like Xero, QuickBooks, eBay, Magento, Shopify and ShipStation.

I have used a few software with regards to inventory but so far dear inventory is much more of a user-friendly compared to those software. The interface of this software is not that hard to understand.

Dear is amazing. Very straightforward and easy to navigate. It is also extremely organized which makes accessing information easier and quicker.

Cons

It can be intimidating because there is so much that you can do and search with this product. There are also a few quirks of trying to undo one thing but it undoes the whole process.

Cons

Some small, quickly-resolved syncing issues, and frequent servicing by the IT team, which is helpful for working out bugs, but can cause technical glitches for the 30 min it's down.

Dear is an excellent and powerful system. I have used the trial and been blown a way on how easy the system is to use. Customer support has been excellent and they always make sure if there is anything they can help you with. Dear has made my business alot more steamline for inventory management, and integrates directly through my xero accounting software and magneto store. The subscription price for dear is good and you get what you pay for and more. Being a cloud system myself and my business partner can collaborate our work at the same time which was a important issue for us. We did alot of research on these types of systems and came down to 2 choices. Dear or Unleashed. Dear blows unleashed out of the water in my opinion and i couldnt recommend dear systems enough. This program integrates well with many different mainstream, top-of-the-line systems including Vend, QB, and many, many more. It is set up for DropShip orders as well as regular inventory, which lets us do everything we need to do. Cloud based means it can be accessed anytime, anywhere.

Cons

Occasional updates mean that work can be temporarily interrupted, sometimes with little to no warning. Also would be great to be fully integrated with Square POS software.

One of the best things about Dear Inventory is its ability to integrate with other cloud based software. Our company uses cloud based POS and accounting software, and having our transaction data automatically loaded into our inventory and accounting systems is great! It has all the functionality that we need as a furniture retail store including automatic generation of purchase orders for low or backordered inventory and tracking of sales and inventory.

Cons

The software has glitches sometimes that cause it not to work in certain browsers for a short time. I usually email the support team and the issue gets resolved fairly quickly.

in general this is the best software i have used and it is value for money (last year they allow single user so the plan is even more attactive). If you have 3 people already in the company this will be the best software

it handle my stock and invoices very well, since i am doing food business, FIFO and expiry date is very important, so when you enter the data correctly the system will help you to do rest of it, great software

they sometimes have some major breakdown failure and everyone in the world (probably) can't use the service (can't login, data can't load). they said that it is due to instability of their cloud service provider, anyway, this didn't really happen all time, seems that i only experience this once for this year? i forget

I've been using DEAR to manage my inventory and integrate the system with Xero and Shopify. The integration setup is so easy and you don't even need an adviser to perform those set up for you. Before when I just have Shopify alone, doing a manual update of stocks is really a pain which causes some loss and might even result to losing your customer. Their integration works perfectly, I can create my products variation and listed on Shopify real time, orders and fulfillment process is very smooth and I can even add multiple Shopify shop integrated, that's really a cost saving feature. I would highly recommend this system.

- DEAR has unlimited user and multiple warehouse
- DEAR have multi currency with no additional cost
- Integrated to most popular e-commerce such as Shopify, Magento, Ebay, Amazon, Woocommerce, Bigcommerce and others
- Free data conversion and template customisation for annual plan subscribers
- Integration to Xero/QBO is almost complete
- Free trial for 14 days upon sign up
- They have live chat support, appointment for products demos and email support is 24/7

Cons

- Mobile Applications for Android/IOS but browser is already good not really a big impact

Advice to Others

If you really need a system that does not require additional cost for a features to be included or added on your business. Dear is perfect for you, treat the software as an investment.

Dear Inventory integrates with QuickBooks Online and Vend POS as well as several other software solutions to make the workflows for a small retail business much more automated. It is robust enough for our furniture store to manage inventory, keep up with landed cost of merchandise, and much more. Being cloud-based allows us to access the system from anywhere, and it is pretty easy to set up once you understand how it works.

Likes Least

The only support that seems to be available is through a ticket system, but they do respond pretty quickly when you submit a request.

Recommendations

Take advantage of the free trial and thoroughly test the software to make sure it has the functionality that you need. Test the integrations to make sure they perform as expected because some companies advertise integrations with other software, but they are not very robust.

I really like DEAR's flexibility (adjust stock, etc.) and how it integrates with Xero seamlessly. The ability to import excel reports is a great feature and may not be relevant to all businesses but is crucial to ours. It has a huge array of reports that are customisable and many useful video tutorials. Customer service is excellent with fast responses and positive attitude.

Cons

It would be very useful if Dear had the ability to import and attach invoices, PO's and SO's. Sales and purchase invoices will be recorded in DEAR but we will likely have to go to Xero to attach the corresponding PO's and SO's.

We implemented the DEAR recently, and so far, great! We chose to implement DEAR after careful consideration of a number of solutions on the market. We were looking to create an integrated platform to support our end-to-end inventory and sales order management. As a small business we needed a solution that was straight forward to use; integrated with key software solutions that catered for the varying needs of our B2B and B2C channels, shipping, CRM and F&A; and offered us flexible path at a reasonable cost that would allow our integrated platform to grow with us. Of the solutions we reviewed, DEAR best met all of these requirements, and we have been pleased with its performance. We have been able to automate a number of key processes, reducing manual error and time taken on admin; visibility of writebacks from our F&A and shipping solutions in particular has meant that our team now has all the information at their fingertips to better service our customers and to make more informed business decisions. We have not yet rolled out the purchasing function, but that is part of our roadmap :-)

Dear is at the heart of our distribution business. We book in all stock, and then provide quotes, sales orders through to invoices for the parts we sell. We run all our stock control through it with min and max quantities set up on stock items, we use the Re-order function for purchase orders and the sales Overview report to track and progress sales orders.
We have also recently started to use the additional attributes on the sales and purchase areas to allow us to capture more information to tie up orders with their purchase orders.
Throughout the 4 years we have been using Dear it has proved super reliable, we have had very litlle down time and no sync issues with Xero. Overall experience is excellent!

Pros

It syncs brilliantly with Xero and Woo Commerce. Since we started using Dear we have no Sync issues with our accounting package Xero which is critical for our business. For this reason I would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a stock management system to run alongside Xero as their accounts package

Cons

The costing set up is not good for our business. All the quotes and sales orders are set up to show margins based Average cost. This is really not good. If you put a new product on you do not see any margin until you have received and processed the purchase invoice. Also if you receive parts without an invoice it throws your margins out until that PO has its invoice booked onto the system.
A simple solution would be to allow you to show margins against either the Fixed cost field or the Last Purchase Cost field. This one update would transform our day to day quoting and order processing on Dear.

It got a very strong inventory management system that covers the relation of production, finance, sales and purchase. The system itself has pretty much covered all the scenarios that a manufacturer or retailer would have.
The support team is always replying you with a very short time and right to the point mostly.

Cons

When you have about a thousand of SKUs the system could load a bit slow.

For them, having detailed reporting tools will make an enormous difference in how they manage their business.

Pros

This software creates a complete picture of what's going on with each product.
It's easy to track inventory movement between warehouses and to customers.
The reporting features are excellent.
I like how you can customize reports. Also each user can create their own reports.
The very best part is Dear's customer service team.
They are prompt, knowledgeable, friendly and patient.

Cons

The learning modules and videos aren't always update with their improved features.

Easy to use. Easy to learn. Easy to teach. The ability to upload items via excel is great!! The template design in word also seems to be a good feature.

Cons

For food manufacturing this software lacks very important tracking information as it pertains to raw material. We can not track temps, and other receiving items per lot number as required under SQF code. Also tech support is very limited. When we send a message it is transmitted through e-mail and the response time can be as long as 24 hours. My expectation would be no longer than 2 hours during business hours.

Pros

I like that it's easy to use, very intuitive and very customizable for any business model. It takes a little time to set it up properly, but once done, you have a very nice inventory management tool on hand. It integrates flawlessly with Xero, WooCommerce, Square, ShipStation and more. This helps us to save tremendous amount of time. Also the customer service is amazing ! I get answers under an hour about each time.

Cons

There is some little glitch here and there that you easily bypass and it's missing an integration with a strong CRM, right now it's small CRM that don't do a lot.

It helped us with all the inventory management and sales. Everything is centralized in DEAR and we love it !

Pros

I like how it integrates with the tools we are using. It's fairly easy to use . Very customizable, so you can use it for a lot of different business model. The customer service is top of the line. I've used it numerous time and I got my answers and problem fix usually under an hour. Also it integrates flawlessly with Xero.

Cons

I would say that it's the CRM integration, it would be cool if it can have better CRM choices and a nice integration like they have with Xero

Dear Inventory is a cost-effective 70% solution to manage food production including BOM's, suppliers, customers, etc... The company is almost continually updating & improving the software. I remain hopeful that at some point the frustrating aspects of the program will be resolved. The implementation is straightforward and does not require a 3rd party to execute. We have trialed and used a number of entry-level MRP systems and believe this to be the best offering at this time.

Cons

The integration with QB is messy and riddled with errors. It seems like the integration with Xero is better but we use QBO for many other integrations so have not made the switch to Xero. Timely customer service for North American customers is lacking since Dear is based in Australia.

Integrations with Square, Shopify, Quickbooks online. The integrations work very smooth. It's accounting focused inventory software, which is great because it transfers everything straight to Quickbooks Online without issues (COGS, Inventory, Sales, Invoices, Inventory bills, etc.). I tested a bunch of other competitors but this was by far the most polished and offered the most bang for the buck.

Cons

Sometimes a little buggy, but very rare. The reporting feature could use an overhaul. Gave 4 stars for customer support because they could use some improvement, but you really don't need it because the software works.

Easy to sync with Xero software and easy to pick up errors when syncing.

Pros

Easy to get around and there are multiple fields that can be entered. Allows good integration with Xero software.

Cons

but would like more functionality with the reporting ie have an easier stock level report that can be run with a date field to be chosen - especially when running end of month reports in the new month.

Being able to track batches from purchase through manufacturing to sale, and get a better idea of product stock levels.

Pros

Being able to track product from ordering to selling including manufacturing is great, there is not many options for software that includes manufacturing as well as pick and pack systems.

Cons

It would be great if the was an easier way to follow the pick pack process without printing paper, if you could see product remaining to be picked while picking the system would make paperless pick packing a breeze.

simple software and great support staff, easy to implement. great api availability which opens up space for integration.

Cons

it is not clear why it is marketed as an Inventory mgt. software and not an in-cloud ERP, it does have a potential of being an ERP if they develop certain areas.

The ability to custom make invoices is a massive pro. Using Dear has meant that automating emails, bulk downloading invoices and keeping track of what's been fulfilled and what hasn't is so much simpler than it was in our previous system. It has also made things much easier in liasing between our warehouse and sales departments. The customer service has been excellent - everything, from integration information/guidelines to quick fixes on invoice issues that we couldn't iron out, was dealt with promptly and efficiently. All round it's been a fantastic experience and would be my go to system to manage inventory, fulfillments and keeping track of the accounts.

Cons

I think the biggest issue was finding that the integrations with third party shipping providers was severely limited, although it has been assured that this currently under review and likely to improve. A small con in a plethora of pros!
