Slack Software

Slack is a cloud-based project collaboration and team interaction tool designed to facilitate communication across organizations. The solution caters to various industries, including media, research, technology, education, financial services, retail, transport and logistics.

Slack provides public channels for members across organizations to start conversations. Private channels enable interaction within smaller teams, and direct channels help send messages directly to colleagues.

Slack incorporates feeds from social media into the application and blends them with ongoing conversations in various channels. Files such as PDFs, images, documents and spreadsheets can be shared via drag and drop.

Slack archives messages, notifications, files (as well as the contents of files) and projects, all of which can be searched for later. Slack allows users to customize their notifications and reduce their scope. All changes are reflected in the native applications available for iOS and Android.

Amazing Communication Tool

Customer Support

Value for Money

Pros

Slack really is the pinnacle of communication apps for organizations large or small. I have used this as a group of friends, as a business, and as a nonprofit tool for my organization to stay in contact with board members. The channel and group features are top notch and the ability to use web and mobile applications is invaluable

Cons

Sometimes the process can be somewhat difficult for inviting and onboarding new members as the onboarding website is a little different than the actual site itself.

Pros

You can easily setup channels for specific topics, send personal messages to an individual user/team member, or you can setup groups for different projects.

Cons

You need a fast computer for this application because this application uses a lot of memory (RAM). And the cost per user is a quite a bit higher than competitors.

Very useful collaboration platform for our company

Ease-of-use

Functionality

Value for Money

Pros

- High level of user customization features
- Can upload and store files for each channel, with a considerable amount of storage for each person
- Notifications/layout/themes can be modified for each individual user

Cons

- It's expensive, especially if you need some of the features contained within the Standard or Plus subscriptions. This is hard to overcome for small businesses, and may be more palatable with perpetual licensing.

Pros

Allows for specific items/topics to be stored in one location on my phone with a singular purpose. I am able to save conversations, share files, pictures, plan events, create teams and maximize communication.

Cons

I wish there were a capability like a Google Drive or Dropbox to store all files related to specific projects or discussions rather than having to go to another location to access documents.

Pros

It has been fulfilling our purpose for the last 5 years. Be it a project discussion, topic relevant discussion, announcements, or updates relevant to what's happening in other tools like PMS, Google docs, etc. - Slack is our first and last to go software. Team communication hasn't been this much easier.

Cons

Sometimes it feels like a memory eater app. It takes much time to load the app when you're a part of 5-10 different slack teams. This could be much better.

For a paid account, this application is one of the best options to be used to communicate if one is working with a team. Collaboration is quite simplified

Pros

Features such as bots help to keep a schedule, overview the work done by the people, setting targets and achieving them. Easy to share code snippets, media files, and other documents.

Cons

The max capacity of messages for a free account is quite less and so you lose the history. Also, the storage available is quite less for the free account.

Overall I like it, but I didn't use it by choice. Our company required everyone to use Slack as our form of communicating.

Pros

I like the you have the ability to join different channels and get notifications for specific channels that you specify.

Cons

Not as user-friendly as Gchat. I wish they made it possible to send specific GIFs easily instead of it auto generating a random GIF.

Slack for team IMs

Ease-of-use

Functionality

Customer Support

Value for Money

I think a platform like this is important for collaboration within and across teams. It has been especially important to our teams in which more than half of our staff work remotely.

Pros

I like that Slack allows users to set up channels to keep conversations on topic. We've set up group discussions on business and non-business related topics and our employees like to share information and pictures with each other in this group setting.

Cons

The only issue I've run into is that you have to have the app open in order to get notices. I know that seems basic, but some of the people I personally communicate with don't always open up their app, so IMs can sit for hours.

Pros

Slack is a great platform for project collaboration. Stop using emails to communicate about current projects -- it's a bad idea! An app like Slack is helpful for conducting the necessary communication without it getting lost in an already too-busy email inbox.

This is a fun workplace communication tool, that doesn't even feel like work. It is helpful to use and in my opinion really raises employee moral overall. It is a great way to incorporate modern day instant messaging in a professional manner.

Slack is a great app. I always recommend this in my department so we can communicate much easier

Slack support personal message so you can message your team member for confidential stuff. I can message an announce using public channels. I can sync my data to my multiple devices. It has a search function, file uploads for document purposes, unlimited channels, team creation, and archiving.

Cons

Having access to Slack on my desktop at work, my laptop at home, on my phone, and having a web log-in make it very easy to use. Slack is a great tool for team collaborations and communication, and it works quite well for my needs, staying in touch quickly with my whole office.

Pros

Slack has been an excellent communication and collaboration platform for our office and the wide variety of features has kept us using it. Having differnt channels has made it easy to communciate with small teams working on sppecific projects, or allowing department to keep in touch. It's definitely more effective than email blasts. I'd recommend it for any small team trying to improve communciation.

Cons

Almost no complaints. The "Catch up" feature is a little clunky, but you get used to it.

My least favorite thing about Slack is that it's hard to Search and the additional features/Add Ons are hard to find. I would love to be able to do a much deeper dive into chat history. This would help with certain keywords or info that helps give context to a project.

Slack helped to achieve lots of business goals in short span of the time me and it is more colourful of way colloborating the team

Pros

One of the best thing with Slack is, the notifications are easily customizable and integrates with other collaboration and office tools. And it makes communication easier among other team members as well as the key thing is customizable alerts. Also, it is available for all the major platforms that include both mobile and web. Another beautiful feature of Slack is, it is easier to integrate with any other popular social communication tool in the market including Google products to Atlassian products

Cons

One of the major problem with Slack is less enterprise level features and cost is higher based on the user group. Compare to HipChat, another major problem is the video calls are not available in mobile and it will work only in audio mode. And also, Search is the another big problem with Slack, it is hard to find the messages and files

High Availability: it provides multiple modes of the communications. we can setup channels for the specific topics send messages directly to one and many at same time

Ability to share emoji making the communication funny and attractive.
Best UI and all the required apps at one place

Pros

This slack is great for real time group discussions and it has large varieties of the integrations which includes different varieties like Google drive and it has capabilities to include large number of people to communicate at same time. Almost all the big and small organisations are utilizing in expanding their business strategies and productivity. The best of slack is it has an option of the private chat group where only the authorized and permitted members can join and have secure communication. Slack has large variety of the options like snippet exchange file exchange and we can easily create slack bots for our communication with all the elegant features. it sends the push notifications to mobile if it founds message is unread for lot amount of time. I recommend for all the companies to utilize and expand growth in business slack will be best tool it is easy simple secure and with less cost.

Cons

The least of this software is there is no calendar which is what we are expecting in the next upgrade a part from that there is no voice call features to communicate. Looking for the preview options in the slack as every time the files need to be downloaded from slack a part from that if there is a preview option the file can be made with pdf this could be much more helpful

For the most part I love Slack. It's great for remote teams and group chat and keeping threads organized. Much better than email for sure. There are a few bugs that I mentioned above that get in the way of it being a 100% solid product, but it does make communication at work a lot more efficient.

Pros

- Multiple threads in each channel
- Available on desktop and mobile

Cons

- Some alerts never fire. Some direct messages never send me alerts to my phone, as well as channels that I've configured to always send me alerts
- Sometimes the mobile and desktop go out of sync and I have to refresh the desktop or restart the app
- I have a channel that's stuck with a "!" icon on my phone that I can't get to correctly sync up no matter what I try (short of reinstalling the app from scratch, perhaps)
- No color themes (dark mode!)
