I started using Case Management software \[Abacus\] back in the late 80's. In the late 90's I was the Florida family guru concerning software products. in 2000, I got out of the active practice of law because of a medical disability. In 2016, I got back into practice to do collaborative law. When I got back into solo practice in 2016, I tried Abacus. After a year, I found that Abacus was too cumbersome and too expensive. I tried Smokeball which was less expensive and a bit more agile. Then I tried Leap and I found that it more user friendly and robust and less expensive and I used it for the last 4 years of my practice. Ratings Breakdown 5 Ease of use 5 Value for money 5 Customer support 5 Functionality Pros: User friendly and robust. I used the new email and forms and template that made me much more productive. Leap card system was a great system. I have also used the cross reference between the name cards and the matters card was a great feature. The customer support was excellent and despite my years away from technology, the customer support people were extremely helpful and were very patient with me. Cons: Because I lost my trusty paralegal for the last few years, my institutional knowledge base was disrupted. I did not have a typical hourly basis and therefore when I had to do some bills, it was a relearning process. With the help of customer support, I was able to get the few bills out. It feels expensive for a sole practitioner, especially given the time needed to set up and maintain precedents and workflows. The desktop interface can feel clunky and dated, and email handling—particularly with Outlook Web—adds unnecessary manual steps. LEAP is also quite rigid: you must work “the LEAP way”, which can feel frustrating when you want speed or flexibility. In short, it’s powerful but heavy, unforgiving of under‑use, and sometimes more complex than you’d like for straightforward matters. Cons: There’s a bit less flexibility when it comes to reversing things on the accounting side once they’ve been finalized. It hasn’t been a major issue, but it does mean you have to double check entries before completing them. On the plus side, it helps keep everything accurate and encourages good habits when managing transactions. It is now longer a dreaded, tedious, chore to prepare invoices. A few simple steps, they are done. Payments are easily credited. I can call up every invoice from the client account. I can also find all correspondence and email in each client account. Am AI feature conducts research for me. Cons: I dislike the new timesheet. It replaced one which I considered to be more intuitive.
