PracticePanther Legal Software is a legal management solution for small to midsize practices specializing in areas including bankruptcy law, personal injury, divorce, estate planning, litigation, criminal law and many more. The system is offered primarily as a cloud-based solution and is both Mac and PC compatible. PracticePanther offers mobile apps for iPhone, iPad and Android users, allowing users to access the system remotely and sync data across devices.

Key features include case management, contact management, document management, calendaring and docketing, time tracking, billing and invoicing, and accounting. The solution provides users access to task and event workflows, credit card processing, notifications and chats and client portal. The system can be integrated with calendars and email, Dropbox, QuickBooks, PayPal and many more. Other features include contact management, document management, client portal, notifications and credit card processing.

Pricing is per month. Support is provided via an online forum, phone, email and chat.

Prior to Practice Panther, I was unable to find a system that could help me communicate with my clients effectively, and keep record of all of my general firm accounting. After I signed up to Practice Panther, I was amazed at how it organized my files and the flexibility it gave me with the way I want to manage records.

Cons

There is not much that I could say that I disliked about the software. Only thing I would probably enjoy is if it was a bit cheaper for multiple users.

I really appreciate the patience of the support staff. I'm of a different generation and according to my sons I am severely technologically challenged. Even though I use a computer all day every day, I fear he is right. You guys put me at ease when I asked questions and I truly appreciate that.

Pros

Practice Panther has functions which, once I learn to use them, will hopefully make my job a lot easier and much less time consuming. As far as entering time and expenses, it's a breeze. Creating matters and contact is great too. I'm a Paralegal but also the Business Manager so the financial end is taking a bit more effort to learn. The support staff I've dealt with has been very knowledgeable and helpful all round. The fact that two out of the three had great people skills put me at ease and made me more comfortable with being open to trying new things.

Cons

It may be too soon to answer this question. Some functions I was told would be available are not. In Practice Panther's defense, that information did NOT come from you. It may have just been an idea of someone in our meeting; not sure. Once a couple of issues are corrected i.e. PP creates a "workable check template" so I don't have to waste $$ on new checks, our "Role" issue is corrected, and the learning curve is mostly over I will have none of the concerns I have at this time, probably only new ones. I have faith in all you youngsters when it comes to making things work. So get busy!! :-)

Customer support staff is very enthusiastic, but often have difficulty understanding what we are asking them. Dashboard is good, but could be a little more compact so important information is readily available.
Smart phone app makes buttons difficult to press.

Pros

Takes a minute to learn but it’s intuitive with lots of hints and help boxes for everything! Plus training and chat options if you need more assistance- I love it!

Cons

It’s hard to come up with Cons for this case management software. Time is needed to learn but help is always available.

The software is very intuitive and easy to use. PracticePanther has clearly thought of the details to make day-to-day practice so much easier. I highly recommend this software!

Pros

Document automation is AMAZING. Once you have your templates uploaded and custom fields set, it can cut down your drafting time by a lot. As a new solo practitioner without a paralegal, this is invaluable.
The customer service is fantastic. The software has a chat feature where you can type a question if you cannot find the answer in their extensive help center. I always receive a response the same day, and usually within a couple hours at most. The help center is quite extensive, and has both videos and text articles.
I love the invoice reminders feature. It is automated, so I don't have to remember to send an email to a client if they have not paid!

Cons

Some of the "syncing" features are not actually syncs. For example, the sync with Outlook's calendar requires that you invite your PracticePanther calendar. It does not communicate directly with Outlook. Same with LawPay. If you enter a payment through PracticePanther, it will sync with the software; if you send the LawPay link directly to the client, it does not record that as a payment in PracticePanther.

I would really like if you had someone who would do some of the setup for templates, intake forms, etc. for me for a reasonable charge.

Pros

Provides some things I need for calendaring and contact management. Learning more about how to use it for matter management and other features like the templates, intake forms, etc.

Cons

I would like to see the calendar/tasks reminder feature be exactly like Outlook - which has a lot more options, and sometimes I want the reset of the reminder to be 1 week or 2 weeks out.

Service is horrible. I understand that there have been hurricanes that have affected the ability to work. However, we are in the process of transferring weeks before the hurricane. now that the contract is signed, they are much less "helpful" and telling us it will be a couple weeks before they can get back to us. In the meantime, I am continuing to pay for another database service at prime cost because Practice Panther didn't assist in getting the information from our prior database, as they led me to believe they would be doing.

Pros

Unsure... Haven't been able to get Practice Panther to work with us to get the data imported, or the product to fully function, for over a month now.

Cons

The inter-office messaging doesnt' allow for a group message. The inter-office messages come and go so they told us to sign up for Slack... but the ability to message was one of the primary reasons we went with Practice Panther instead of another service.

I love how easy it is to use. The training assisted me in learning to use the software, but it really is very easy to learn to use each of the features.

Cons

The app does not allow the use of multiple timers at once. Because I may move from one matter to the next while on the go, the multiple timer option is very necessary.

One stop shop. Mobility and flexibility for the professional on the go.

Pros

Prior to Practice Panther, we were using a plethora of online programs, integrations and other software to piecemeal a law practice management system. Practice Panther has enabled the firm to grow with its ease of use, mobility and "one-stop shop" appeal. This has cut down on monthly program fees and allows the attorneys in other cities to collaborate and keep track of clients and files. We expect revenues to increase by 20-30% by switching to Practice Panther this year due to its streamlined architecture.

Cons

Although the file feature connected to Box is seamless, I would like to see Practice Panther create their own DMS system.

If I've ever had an issue such as integrating a calendar, it didn't last long. Tech support is as easy as a chat or phone call. Everyone I've worked with at Practice Panther has been quick to respond with an immediate answer.

Pros

When an attorney can access the most recent case status at any time or place, he or she can direct their assistants to reschedule, contact a client, or draft a document for review, directly from within the software. "Time" is more than money, it can be the difference in a favorable decision for your client, and effective service can lead to your next client referral.

Full case management, calendar, timekeeping and billing solution at a very reasonable price.

Pros

It is incredibly easy to set up and use. Billing takes half the time of prior or program, and clients love online payment feature just as much as we do! Staff enjoys using it, saying it feels almost like they are on a video game. They all learned how to use it very easily with minimal training time. We love this product and recommend it to all our colleagues, and it is extremely cost effective!

Cons

Can only have one window open at a time right now. Would like to have calendar and time entries open simultaneously.

The user-interface is designed for quick and easy navigation. You can look at your dashboard and very clearly see everything you need to know for your day to run smoothly (well as smoothly as possible). It is cost effective and the onboarding and training are taken care of with Practice Panther's incredible customer service.

Pros

Before PracticePanther we had started an Excel spreadsheet to log our contacts for conflicts checks. We created a joint email account with Gmail so our email would be centralized and that also gave us a central calendar that we all had access to in order to set appointments, record deadlines, etc. We also created a Dropbox account for file storage.

While everything was low cost or free, all the parts felt scattered. PracticePanther pulls it all together in one beautiful, user-friendly interface. Now, instead of having to pull up 5 or 6 different apps/websites, we are able to pull up just one site and have everything right there. All of the components of PracticePanther are really easy to use. The entire program is designed for efficiency and ease of use. Color-coding allows you to see and understand your financial details in mere seconds. Tasks, events, and timekeeping are easy.

Cons

I would like to see the software integrate with more programs. Quickbooks is great, but my brain works better with Wave Accounting; LawPay is great, but being able to integrate with PayPal also, would be even better. However, these are minor things and not worth seeking a different program I like as much as Practice Panther. I had shopped around quite a bit before choosing Practice Panther; I doubt I would find anything I like as much.

Hands down, our favorite thing about PracticePanther is the superior support staff. If you have a problem and leave a message after hours in the chat box, you get a response generally within the hour. There is also training videos and a help center that will help you find the help that you need.

It saves time in reducing the amount of time you have to spend on various tasks.

Pros

You can quickly record time and send out invoices with payment links for Lawpay. You can easily generate documents such as retainer letters with contact information. It makes billing much quicker and keeps track of payments. I also like the notification it shows when a client reviews an invoice.

Advice to Others

I suppose you could have a few more options on the color schemes but other than that it is very nice.

A great web based firm management tool that really helps my firm run smoothly.

Pros

Without a doubt, the support. I have called late in the evening for help and they are there. The support staff walks me through whatever I need and are very patient with me. When there is something that the software is not yet able to do, they make a note of that. They are constantly adding helpful features.

Cons

Once in a while (once a week or so) when I click the timer at the top of the webpage, it doesn't display as started. When I reload the page it shows it going though.

Thank you so much for your feedback. There is an easier method to sync your BCC/Mailsync email addresses to Outlook. If you have Exchange, you can sync your contacts and their BCC email addresses directly to Outlook. Once you use them once in Outlook, it will auto-populate everytime thereafter per person.

This software made starting our own firm so much easier than it would have been otherwise. It keeps me organized, and as the firm administrator and paralegal, my staying on top of things is paramount.

Pros

It is quite user-friendly and easy to navigate. How-to questions are easily answered with information available in the help center. If you require more assistance, questions are easily sent and are answered promptly. My research before purchasing PracticePanther showed me that the pricing was clear and and inclusive. Once I used the app, I realized more fully how solid a value it is. Overall, I'm just very pleased with the app and have recommended it to other firms.

Cons

When we joined, there wasn't an option for writing off outstanding balances if we decided to do so. However, they rectified that recently. I now have the option to mark outstanding balances as write-offs, making accounting easier.

Too many to list. From accounting, billing, calendar integration, etc. The program has been fantastic for my law firm.

Pros

Prior to PracticePanther, I used three pieces of locally-downloaded software one for billing, one for client management, and another for form creation. PracticePanther has provided the firm with a cloud-based solution that has replaced all three pieces of software. Additionally, because it is cloud-based, the firm can utilize the software on a number of platforms and in any location in fact, I am using it right now on my iPad at a coffee shop, after entering billable time on my Android phone earlier in the day.

In addition, PracticePanther's client portal has been a game changer. While I have not yet fully utilized the email replacement offered by the portal (baby steps), it has helped immensely with billing and in giving clients a great image of the firm. I have received a number of compliments on the portal it makes sending bills easy, paying bills easy, and working with clients a breeze.

Cons

I do wish PracticePanther had a more robust document preparation and CRM platform (like Lexicata). I am sure PP is working on integrating other providers into its software, and the pros FAR outweigh the cons.

Streamlined business operations.

Pros

When I opened my own office, I researched other practice management systems. I ultimately selected PracticePanther and could not be more pleased. It is intuitive, cloud based, and seamlessly integrates with other cloud based technologies, e.g. email, calendaring, document storage, credit card processing, etc It is a very user friendly portal to running your entire law practice.

The invoicing is amazing bordering on magical. What years ago was a time consuming and cumbersome process has been reduced to a few clicks of the mouse. In about 15 seconds you can generate an invoice, send it to a client electronically, and accept payment online.
