Never felt alone; even in my darkest times.
TheraNest has EVERYTHING in one place. I have search high and low for several years; applied, signed up, and trialed several other soft-wares, and none of them compare to TheraNest. The Client Portal is a surprise when I share the feature with my patients. The Customer Service being accessible to all providers (Inters and Residents alike) is a huge plus so I do not find myself training (and retraining) through the semester to a new class when they can find the answers easily on their own. TheraNest makes the end of my session a 10 min wrap up with documentation, and the end of my day a 5 min wrap up to submit ALL billing. I save money on not having to hire a full-time employee to manage my billing and claims; merely a contract when there is an issue with the insurance themselves and a phone call is needed beyond my knowledge.
CONSThe only thing I could ever wish for, is prescribing rights and abilities. I plan to expand my company into the Medical Realm eventually, and this is a feature I plan to discuss with the developing team.

Overall, I really liked theranest. I probably would have continued to use it because it was easy. I recommended it to my colleagues and some of them had signed up to it too! But it became too money hungry, too fast. Thanks for a bunch of other providers who made a Facebook group for this purpose only, some took the lead to try to talk with management...and that's that. So many providers switched to another EHR, and finally I did too. Normally, I don't write reviews but It was ethically and morally unacceptable, this left many providers to either pay the fees, use another software and pay that too or cut back on telehealth at a time when everyone was hurting financially. I think theranest would be good if you only plan to have a couple of clients and only use basic notes/assessments. Otherwise, you will find yourself paying fee increases often.
PROSI've used this EHR since for about 5 years when I started my practice. I liked that it was simple: 1) The scheduler was easy to use, the notes were straightforward, the submitting of claims was a breeze. 2)I also liked that they have an app to download on your phone and clients would tell me it was easy for them to log on using their phones. 3)I also liked the simplicity of the calendar and the ability to print reports, client lists, etc. 4) Not sure if they were starting off as a new business at that time, but customer service was so responsive and seemed to care. 5)As I transitioned out of this platform, I really liked that they actually updated the ability to download complete files into one PDF!
CONSOver the years it went from amazing to poor for a couple of reasons: 1) the customer service is really slow, it can take up to 2 days to resolve a simple issue or concern 2)You are able to create your own notes template, assessment templates, BUT if you do, these will not integrate with the rest, what do I mean? If you create your own custom, this does not work and you have to do all the steps each time. Oh, and when you download files, any custom templates, don't download with the rest of the file. You have to do it individually, for each client... 3)Telehealth is so bad. Either I would disconnect or my clients would disconnect for unknown reasons, so I just switched to Doxy for FREE. 4)They keep raising their fees! I understand that all business raise fees, but it seemed to be every so often. New feature, new fee. New feature, new issue to troubleshoot. 5) Last year, they sent emails asking providers to sign a BAA...I signed one in 2016, when I signed up, were they misplaced? I don't know, I had no answer to this, I didn't sign it, I had an old one in my files. 6) during the start of the pandemic, they raised their fees! For example from $10/month unlimited, to Standard Users: $12 / month for up to 30 one-hour sessions", each additional hour $1. (I have the emails too!) It seemed very unethical and poorly timed. I finally decided to download every single PDF client chart and switched.

I started using this platform while still paying for theranest, while I transitioned. So far it has been about 6 months and I am so happy and so excited about it. The billing is sooo easy, I like the ability to make my own notes and assessment templates. I'm still in the 'honeymoon' stage, I really really hope that they don't disappoint. Customer service has been excellent. And they seem ethical and very reasonable.

TheraNest Works Well Enough
Having an EHR system really benefits my practice because I do not need to store paper charts. I like the ability to communicate in a HIPAA compliant way with clients, though I have not been able to get as much buy in from my clients around this as I would like. I appreciated the integrated telehealth system at the beginning of the pandemic, despite the fact that it was a little glitchy, but then they raise prices substantially, so I opted for another platform that was both less glitchy and a better cost value. Forms can be customized, but this is not the intuitive process I wanted it to be. I am not a computer wiz, but also I am not intimidated by computers/software. I imagine that this system would be a challenge if you were not confident in navigating unfamiliar software. Basically, it does the essentials that I need an EHR system to do. I might explore other options if it was not such a pain to consider switching everything over to a new system. I believe that it can probably do more for me than what I am getting out of it and it lacks features that I would really like to have in a system. I can make it work for me and it is not cost prohibitive to do so.
PROSI like that they do accept user feedback. They have tutorials available to help figure out what features are available and how to use them. I appreciate the option to allow my biller to access my appointment information without an additional fee. I imagine that there are even more helpful features if you do your own billing, but I do not utilize those features. I appreciate the Wiley practice planner add on feature to help me create treatment plans (even though these can also be highly problematic in that they are transphobic, homophobic, heteronormative, and Christian based, but this is not TheraNest's problem). I love that my clients can fill out all their forms online. This saves paper and was really handy when the pandemic hit.
CONSIt is not as intuitive as I hoped it would be. While it has a lot of features, there are things that I think would be incredibly useful (and I am not alone in these thoughts as others have highlighted them on the user feedback platform) that have not been implemented. It can also be quite slow to load. I really do not like that I have to refresh the page often and intentionally for things to show up correctly on the page I am working on. This has caused significant communication errors with my biller, who does not understand computers as well and did not know to regularly refresh her browser. I would expect that in navigating around the site, that it would refresh automatically, but this is not the case.

It seemed more customizable at the time. I no longer believe this to be the case. Pricing is very similar.

Helpful EHR
Overall I have been very happy with my Theranest experience. As a solo practitioner, it was the easiest and smoothest system I tried and I appreciated the customer service when I started. The pandemic changed some things with everyone getting on line and needing help so it seemed like a longer wait for help but just the same it was a growing time for all of us. So, would I recommend Theranest based on my experience as a whole...the answer is simple.. yes.
PROSEase. When I signed on the Theranest customer service was phenomenal as I was "green" with using an EHR online system.
CONSI would like to see more therapeutic interventions and options on the treatment plan for checks only. That would be amazingly helpful.

Recent Failures
If you asked a few days ago I would have said it’s pretty decent but in recent changes they lack integrity and are taking advantage of customers in a pandemic. Not a company I want to be a part of anymore. Regardless of some great features I would look elsewhere.
PROSI have used Theranest since it was a new company. In the beginning the customer service was wonderful. The look is clean and user friendly and they have great tools and tutorials. They offer a wide variety of services.
CONSI liked most things up until this year. Their customer service has been spotty this year and I was giving a little grace due to COVID but have learned that they were bought by another company in Feb of this year and that has brought about the change. Their telehealth option has been reasonably priced and has worked fairly well with the occasional glitches- it could use some improvements but 8/4/20 they sent an email stating that they are raising the telehealth fees for anyone seeing more than 30 clients a month by about 400% and raising their already high credit card rates fairly significantly. In an email I was basically told by their customer service rep that my business wasn’t that important to them.

Best EHR/PMS for the money
I had never used an EHR/PMS in the past. (The company we left was still using paper files.) I can't believe how much easier it is to keep up with my paperwork. I am more organized and efficient. Thank you TheraNest!
PROSWhen my business partner and I decided to go into private practice together in 2016 we looked at many different EHR/PMS software brands. I read reviews and did trials of the top 3. TheraNest was by far the most comprehensive, cost conscious, and easiest to use. They are always working on improving and expanding the functions and listen to customer feedback. I occasionally look at others to compare again, but TheraNest continues to be the best!
CONSI wish it kept track of when I create and send invoices to clients. I have to download and save them in my files, so I can keep tack of when and if they were sent.

TheraNest was by far the most comprehensive, cost conscious, and easiest to use. It meets my practice needs.

Love Theranest
Overall Theranest keeps me very organized and on top of time sensitive issues like notes, rminders and billing.
PROSTheranest is easy to use, keeps track of my calendar, sends reminders to clients, makes billing very easy.
CONSI wish I could customize more reporting and sorting features to help me do the billing of insurance companies that I have to do on other websites.

PROSI have found the set-up easy, the tutorials and knowledge base useful, the customer service responsive, and the tools easy to use and teach colleagues to use.
CONSThe migration of our former EHR system (MyClients+) has yet to occur, as it is not clear how easy it will be to access the records from former clients if needed. We could use some hand-holding to get this accomplished.

Depends On Your Needs
It was decent. They have superb customer service. I really liked how attentive they are to your needs and are very open to making sure your issues are resolved.
PROSUploading documents into client's charts was a breeze. It made it easy for my staff and I to review charts electronically. The calendar feature is very user-friendly.
CONSIt was very difficult to figure out how to co-sign on my staff notes. I needed this function and found it hard to set up. Setting up each staff person was a little difficult.

TheraNest was affordable. It didn't charge me per staff as some other programs. That was financially feasible for me and my agency.

The best online scheduling software that is available to us in Asia.
PROSIt is oriented to my profession - mental health care. It has most of the functionality that our company needs: - appointment scheduling - room booking that prevents double booking, a must for us because we have 9 staff sharing 3 offices - invoice/receipt generation is easy - International user friendly, we are in Hong Kong - has the necessary features for managing the financial side of the business - appointment reminder features, easily editable reminder message - TN consistently add useful features to help with the business, e.g. custom forms, improved ease of use of the software - integration with other calendars - color coding for staff, ease of identifying each other on the master calendar - staff permissions feature - customer support has been excellent from the beginning
CONS- staff permissions can be item selectable rather than group together in the basic five categories - basic navigation still needs some touch-up - mobile app needs an update - need to expand the list of reports that can be generated or permit selectable items to be generated for a report

Theranest Supports my Private Practice
Overall, I really enjoy using Theranest for my EHR, & billing needs. Since it is all in one place, I am able to take care of these needs with ease.
PROSIt took me a bit to get to learn all the ins & outs of the software. However, on a personal level, I have to practice something until I am able to do it with ease. The Knowledge base in Theranest helped me look up anything I needed to learn to do and the instructions are very easy to follow, especially because they have videos to show you as well. Thus, it was in this way that it made learning how to navigate all the features with ease.
CONSThe process that was the most difficult, and still have not figured out is the APEX system, I thought I had gone through all the steps, but it still kept giving me trouble and then I gave up.

Counselor and administrator agree- get rid of TheraNest
I learned a lot having to figure things out on my own.
PROSI liked the forms and templates. It was the first EHR software I had used. I did not have a comparison.
CONSBilling is complicated. Forms are difficult to complete in session. Support is terrible. It was a chat. It took days, many times, to get a response and the response would not address the issue. Fees increased, but service and product were stagnant. When you want out, it is very difficult to export data and you have to pay them to store it.

This was my only option
I have been very disappointed. I bundled my services when I started private practice and the company I bundled with use Theranest so this was my only option. I used Therapy notes in my group practice and found it effortless. I have continually been concerned with insurance claims not getting back to my customers and Theranest is nearly impossible to get in touch with when I need them.
PROSI can have employees and supervisors and do out of network claims.
CONSCustomer support takes days to get back when sometimes the matter is urgent. Training was really hard and the software is not intuitive. Out of network claims are challenging to submit myself and often don't get to the actual insurance company.

I choose a bundle package that included zoom and this was the EHR that was provided from that service.

I had to when I went into private practice because I bundled my software and this was the option the company Itherapy gave me.
