After using it for several months in a production environment, I can confidently say it’s one of the strongest self-hosted solutions available for ultra-low latency live streaming. The server excels at delivering what it promises: sub-second WebRTC streaming that feels truly real-time, combined with great flexibility across protocols and easy integration through its APIs and SDKs. We successfully built and scaled interactive live features that would have been much more expensive using purely cloud-based SaaS platforms. The ability to run it on our own infrastructure gives us full control over costs, data privacy, and customization — which has been a big advantage for our project. That said, it’s not a “plug-and-play” solution. There’s a noticeable learning curve when moving beyond basic setups, and we had to invest time in proper architecture planning, especially around clustering and monitoring. Once we got past those initial hurdles and optimized our deployment, the server proved to be stable and performant. In summary, Ant Media Server strikes an excellent balance between powerful features, cost-effectiveness, and control.
