Edmodo Software

Edmodo is a cloud-based learning management application for teachers to connect and collaborate with parents and students.

The solution allows teachers to create academic groups, distribute assignments and homework, schedule online tests and track student performance. Edmodo also offers collaborative tools for students to post questions, conduct polls and interact with each other. Teachers can award certificates and badges to students based on their performance in online tests and exams.

The snapshot feature allows teachers to monitor academic progress, track student performance and view upcoming sessions. Parents can also register with Edmodo and track the academic progress of their child in real time. With Edmodo, educators can categorize their content and can also sell premium educational content and request information from students or parents.

Edmodo offers dedicated mobile apps for Android, iOS and Windows smartphones and tablets. Support is available through an online help center.

Sometimes I find it hard to find where a student has submitted their work as there are multiple ways on Edmodo and not every student uses the same way.

Pros

That it has the appearance of Facebook. This means that students will be used to using a program such as this.

Cons

That you can only upload 1GB of data. There are now advertisements popping up via Edmodo which I find inappropriate.

how similar the interface appears to the much more familiar Facebook, but very secure for classroom use

Quizzes can't be imported, but have to be completely retyped.

Recommendations

If comparing to other alternatives, consider low learning curve because of similarity to FB, and ability to reset passwords for students.

Edmodo connects teachers, students and stakeholders!

Overall, I think that it's a very effective way to connect students and teachers in a very controlled setting to ensure that students are a part of a "safe" social media setting and yet still allow for the "free flow" of information and to reap the benefits.

Pros

Edmodo is a great way to connect teachers, students and stakeholders. Teachers can control who is a participant in groups and can control the content for each group. Edmodo can be used for communication, polling, assignments/quizzes, etc. Teachers can connect with other teachers to share resources and ideas within a school, a district, a content area, etc. The platform is easy to learn and master!

Cons

I think that Edmodo has a LOT of "pros" and very few "cons." I never have quite mastered the "badges" and the "connections" were challenging at the beginning.

It¿s very similar to a Facebook layout, thus very familiar for many to use right off the bat. Notifications appear on the app or you can get a text notice when something has been posted.

You have to set up a new class each year and parents have to re-join the new group with a code. Some parents don¿t like having to signup for the service, even if it¿s free for them.

It allows me to quickly make assignments for my classroom kids, and also lets parents see the assignments.

Pros

Easy to use for both teachers and students. Let's teachers see student progress. Easy to make assignments, homework and give grades and comments to students. The software also lets students earn badges for work completed and select an avatar. Parents can also join and see student assignments.

Cons

Sometimes it is slow or does not load pages when I click assignments. It is easily remedied just takes more steps.

Is an excellent software to have an online class group.

Pros

What I like the most about this software is that I can use it in my job. I am a teacher and through Edmodo I can create groups for each one of my classes and share information, documents, post new things, among other things. Edmodo is really easy to use and it has some great features, you can make quizes, send assignments, share links, and more.

Cons

The only thing I can recommend is to improve the compatibility of the app in smartphones.

Pros

Edmodo is one of the online classroom service in market. It's great features and tools, perfect design enough to say it is the best in its field. It has mobile version which is useful also. We are using edmodo for our classes. It made our jobs more easier. You can create groups and add your audition or your students to your group. And there are perfect tools like real-time grading, feedabacking, and the best one is if you are working with pupils you can add their parents to group.

Cons

The only thing that I did not like is customer support. Their service is just awful. It takes too much time to get response from them.

Pros

It is much easier to grade and to check students' progress. It is also user friendly and has interesting layout.

Cons

For monitoring the group discussion, the order of events is bottom up, means we have to scroll down to check previous discussions. When we check the latest reply for a comment we go down, but when we need to check the previous or oldest discussions we have to scroll down, too. Sometimes it is somewhat confusing. I think it is better to use up-down model, thus the most recent discussion will be at the bottom line. It will be much easier to track so that we just need to scroll up for the previous comments or replies.

Edmodo completely changes the flow of the classroom from when I was a student. Before you lecture as students take notes, then hand out homework. There may be notes home for parents that you then have to keep track of. NO MORE! The LMS allows to you upload all of the notes ahead of time, keeping students engaged, paying attention and participating. The homework can be uploaded, reducing the environmental impact of education in our one-to-one iPad environment, reducing the "I lost my homework/ You lost my homework" issues (the internet could eat it, but haven't had that yet!), test functions reduce the amount of paper tests to complete. Finally, parent communication can largely occur through the application as well. It creates a "one-stop-shop" environment for the classroom and streamlines the classroom process for easy teaching, and easy learning.

Pros

I like the user-friendly interface of Edmodo. It seems similar to some social media platforms, making it easy for students to interact in a familiar way. There are good controls, such as restriction of student access, and read-only abilities. It is a great way for teachers to share work, notes, homework, etc with their classes, and interact with their students. Tests can also be handled through this platform. Students can also edit their work on the platform and receive feedback. Parent communication can also be handled through the application, which keeps them in the loop and helps students communicate at home with their parents regarding their work. Badges are a great motivator, especially in the gamified classroom. Students can also use the planner feature to keep track of and prioritize their work. It is also a way that teachers can interact with each other. Finally, the integration with other software, like Google, is pretty well handled.

Cons

The features of Edmodo can be a bit limited compared to some other LMSs, but it is also what makes it a simple enough tool to be easy to learn. The grading is simplistic and makes it harder to use in upper-level education. There has also been some interruption from ads, that while always school appropriate, are not always age appropriate, so it has created some questions in the classroom. I have had some problems with notifications, which support suggests is working as designed, but I would like to receive a bit more notification other than direct student messages. Parents would also like to have communications with them and their student come from one source for two-way communication, to one area, rather than what it is now, which is a bit wider spread across platforms. I have also had some issues with the display of my Chinese characters. Additionally, weighted grades, or varying the assignments by students would be helpful.
