### Secondary ratings

- Value for money: 4.8/5

- 4 stars: 121 reviews (16%)
- 3 stars: 9 reviews (1%)
- 2 stars: 4 reviews (1%)
- 1 star: 1 reviews (0%)

### Most mentioned pros

- One of the main reasons we use MyMusicStaff for all studio communication is that every email and announcement is stored directly in your MMS message history, making it easy to go back and find information in one organized spot rather than searching through a busy inbox!
- With 4 teachers on staff, we love the ability to post sheet music and tracks to the online resources for our students' weekly home-practice (with the ability to see when and how often they have accessed the resource).
- I was so stuck thinking I had to actually manage my calendar and billing on paper. But once I took the time to give it a try and learn how to set up my calendar, billing, and more, it opened a whole new world of possibility and ease!

### Most mentioned cons

- The cost is really negligeable for someone that has even 4-5 students. When you get to the point where your teaching 20 kids, the cost savings in time is hundreds to thousands of dollars.
- I shouldn't have to force a client to pull out there phone and click a bunch of links to be able to pay and have the payment tracked automatically.
- One of my main issues is with the html wigits that you can use on your website.

My experience is very positive. I've found the app quite easy to learn. When I haven't understood things, the help desk at MMS is always quick to reply to questions. I am amazed that I live on the other side of the planet (Australia) and the music studio my adult child, who lives in my old hometown of Burlington, does not use MMS and has a much less user friendly app.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

I've been using My Music Staff since 2020. It only gets better with time. I love how easy it is for me to organize my teaching, keep records on my students and digitally send them lesson notes, communicate with students and parents, schedule students, keep track of missed lessons, make up lesson, etc. It even allows me to create a website with support. I use My Music Staff for all of my invoicing and sending receipts to families as well as keeping track of my finances. It covers all of my admin needs and more.

#### Cons

I wish the resources area of the platform was a little more easy to organise. It would be great if this was like a webpage with links to different areas with files (i.e. theory, aural training, repertoire for specific grades, that sort of thing). I also wish the note pages printed and emailed the same as they looked (the spacing wouldn't change).

#### Reasons for choosing My Music Staff

The main reason was you gave a reasonable amount of time for trial so I really had a chance to see what it was like and I was very impressed with your support teams' response time to questions.

### Absolute Game-Changer!!!

I've been using MMS for over 10 years now, and I remember wishing I had switched much sooner. I was so stuck thinking I had to actually manage my calendar and billing on paper. But once I took the time to give it a try and learn how to set up my calendar, billing, and more, it opened a whole new world of possibility and ease! It is easily one of the most valuable investments I've ever made in my studio. Hands down.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

MMS adds incredible value to my music studio at aVERY reasonable rate. I love that I can put a very professional "foot forward" with all of the automations and integrations MMS offers. I can automatically invoice families via AuotoPay with Stripe, give them portal access to manage their account and calendar, send mass texts and emails, among other things. I LOVE that MMS added the ability to create multiple versions of sign up and contact forms, both for those using their but-on website builder and for those hosting a website externally. The forms can be customized to do exactly what I need and make my life so much easier because all the data is collected for me! This is a feature I begged for from customer service... They constantly listen to their users and improve and add features. MMS is truly a game changer and sanity-saver for this independent studio of one....I can focus on the teaching and not so the admin with that I would be doing. And the monthly cost is so low and affordable, especially compared to the competition. Absolutely LOVE it!

#### Cons

I wish for a fully supported mobile app! They rolled one out in Beta a while back, but it is no longer available. Someday I hope. But the web experience, both on PC and mobile is great; it just has to be within a with browser instead of openings as a stand-alone app on my phone.

#### Reasons for choosing My Music Staff

The monthly cost of MMS is considerably lower than Opus1 & Fons. DuetPartner is similar, but MMS was more user friendly, and has more features and integrations.

I have tried other programs similar to my Music Staff. I have found this to be the most user-friendly. But when I can’t figure out how to do some thing, customer service is quick to respond and help me to resolve my problems.

#### Cons

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

The team is very responsive to customer inquiry, they continue to improve with more updates, the updates are relevant to teacher experience, the format is very user friendly and intuitive, the billing system is simple, and I love the website integration.

#### Cons

I have 2 accounts and manually transfer calendar info. I convinced a studio I'm contracted with to use MMS as well. This caused 2 accounts with my MMS account. I log out/in depending on whether I use my personal studio or my contracted studio. This is a good integration, but I wish there was some way of better managing the 2 accounts for one user. I have to keep both calendars updated because one is synced to my phone and the other belongs to the studio. I'd rather just use one calendar for both, but that would impact the invoicing system as well as the student accounts.

#### Reasons for choosing My Music Staff

MMS was more directly relatable for music teachers. The others were good for appointments, but I had to make too many adjustments for private lessons. It was also the best product for solo teachers or small studios.

#### Pros

I love the integration of administration and web site builder. Easy to use with very good customer support. Extensive offerings, really incredible.

#### Cons

I switched because at the time the web builder was not very modern (this has since been updated). Also, I could not have students auto-reschedule in 15min increments. Otherwise, I really liked it.

#### Reasons for choosing My Music Staff

I switched to Fons from My music staff for the easier auto pay and auto self schedule features.

Over all I can say that it has been positive. It really has. I would not be able to run my business as efficiently, or really at all, without it. The cost is really negligeable for someone that has even 4-5 students. When you get to the point where your teaching 20 kids, the cost savings in time is hundreds to thousands of dollars. I haven't really had to work with customer support, so I can't speak to that. The user interface is reasonable. Some of the items could be more efficiently placed, like the lack ability to send emails without going to the student list. If you don't know where something is, you'll be able to find it within a couple of minutes.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

I love the automatic invoicing and billing options. I'm a solo music teacher running a studio of 45 families on my own, and the main reason i sought out my music staff was because I was spending 20-30 hours a month manually creating invoices and sending them out by email. The last time I did that was when I had 25 families, and it was unmanageable. 45 families would not be possible without my music staff to help me.

#### Cons

One of my main issues is with the html wigits that you can use on your website. A while ago, there were a couple calendar wigits released to make "client self scheduling" possible. For someone who only wants clients to be able to schedule lessons for them selves, that's great. For me, it's not, because I only allow clients to start taking lessons from me once they've gone through a free consultation where we talk about policies, procedures, billing, and scheduling. I would only want to allow people to "self-schedule" for consultations. but even if I change the available timeslot on the calendar to say "consultation" for some reason the html wigit will not only say its a "consultation" but also a "lesson". which means people would show up confused about what kind of session they're doing unless i scheduled them manually. This is a clarity issue that I could not allow on my website, so I had to stay in a manual scheduling setup. there also doesn't seem to be a method of integrating a physical POS into my music staff. If I take a payment from someone using a credit card, NO I do not want to have to input that data manually after the fact. And NO I do not want everyone to pay through the portal. I shouldn't have to force a client to pull out there phone and click a bunch of links to be able to pay and have the payment tracked automatically. This is a feature that would make my life INFINITELY easier. But I also doubt it's coming in the next year or 2. I won't leave because it's not there, but I will be sitting here with a constant level of 3/5 satisfaction.

#### Pros

This service makes my piano teaching life so much easier! Keeping track of each student, payment and billing, and even having a repertoire list is so helpful! I have used one other service that wasn’t nearly as good and before that I did everything by hand. It is very easy to use and I rarely have a problem. When I do there is quick, personal help available. So worth the money I pay each month!

#### Cons

I wish that Mac would allow me to use all the symbols available. If I’m not mistaken the problems that I tend to have are Mac related.

#### Cons

I dont use the accounting side of the program as i find it too clunky. It would be good if it worked with external accounting software like Myob. It would also be good if it was developed as an app as opposed to a webpage.

My experience with My Music Staff has been positive—it really helps me stay organized. I plan to continue using it for the long term, and I appreciate that the developers are attentive to their customers' needs. They consistently improve the platform, enhancing the experience for both students and instructors.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

Overall, the platform is intuitive and focuses on the needs of the student and instructor - It's clear that My Music Staff was created by music instructors, which is great. Additionally, it is very cost effective.

#### Cons

I wish the process for verifying and setting up bank accounts for auto payments was more streamlined. Also, having sample document templates for student intake and onboarding would be a great addition. Lastly, while the messaging feature is helpful, it would be even stronger if students and instructors could communicate directly within the platform instead of relying on email.

#### Reasons for choosing My Music Staff

My Music Staff was easier to navigate and more user friendly. The cost was more competitive as well.

My overall experience with MMS has been excellent. It is absolutely essentially to running and maintaining my music school, and has taken away a lot of the stress of scheduling lessons.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

The best part of the system, and by far the most used for us is the scheduling. Not only does in make keeping track of our lessons very simple and straightforward, we can very quickly make changes, and even provide our teachers with access so they can stay on top of their schedules. In addition, being able to synchronize the MMS calendars to Google Calendar or Apple Calendars means that I can see an updated schedule on my phone at any moment. I also love their automated payment system which has removed the need to chase down students/parents for tuition payments; everything goes through automatically at the end of the month and we can rely on a consistent stream of income to cover expense and make sure everyone is paid on time.

#### Cons

The only thing I don't like about MMS is the recent GUI change. I'd been using the earlier system for many years and have become quite comfortable with where everything was located. The GUI updated moved some features around which has been somewhat annoying - however I'm gradually getting used to the new layouts.

#### Reasons for choosing My Music Staff

At the time I was a smaller operation with fewer teachers on staff. MMS allows the price to scale based on the number of instructors you have which made their pricing very enticing for my business.

Insanely good. Best application/ website I have ever used hands down. Six Stars.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Where to start? I think the Number 1 reason I love MMS is because of its features. They have truly thought of everything a teacher would need to track schedule and communicate with their students. Anything I personally wanted to try or change in regards to my lessons that I teach was somehow already available for me to utilize. Its as if music teachers themselves designed it. Next is the ease of use. I have never experienced an online tool so simple and so intuitive. I learned the entire sites basic functions in a matter of days and within a week I was a pro using the advanced settings. Literally anytime I couldn't figure how something worked or anytime I had to troubleshoot any minor issue, I could resolve it within a matter of minutes by simply searching other areas of the site. Since the entire platform so seamlessly integrates one section to another, I.e contact information, billing, calendar events, etc... there is typically more than one way to solve any issue quickly. and if for some reason you cannot solve the issue on your own, MMS has an extensive FAQ list to guide you and incredibly responsive customer service team. I could go on as well about the cheap cost, personal customization options, and a plethora of other things but my main point is that if you own a music business, schedule reoccurring lessons on even a monthly basis you need to use this site period.

#### Cons

Nothing. Truly. I even expected a small learning curve and even that didn't happen as I was able to use this product efficiently from day one.

#### Reasons for switching to My Music Staff

Acuity did not offer the same scheduling as MMS, and cost more.

Overall I am happy with MMS, specially the invoicing and scheduling features. Customer support is top notch as well and this alone keeps me as a customer.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

I have been using MMS since 2020 when my whole studio went online. Their customer support is fantastic and their team is always available to talk over the phone. Emails are responded to quickly and they always have a solution for my issues. My favorite feature is the auto-invoicing and auto-payment. The website has saved me countless hours of invoice logging, tracking down payments, and scheduling since I can automate everything.I schedule all my lessons through MMS and It's nice that my students can launch their Zoom lesson right from the portal.

#### Cons

I really want to make MMS my ultimate hub for my students to access all their materials and video lessons, as well as send me videos and track their practice. However, I think this is where MMS is really lacking. The last couple of updates have been great but the system still feels like it is stuck in the early 2000's. I'm fairly techy so I haven't had a problem figuring out how to navigate MMS, but students and parents who are not techy at all really struggle, so these features end up being neglected by them. I really struggle to get any of my studio members to use the practice log and send me videos of their practice because it's just not intuitive or easy to access. The Online Resources is an improvement, but even then the filing system is really clunky. I would love to especially see an update of how files are delivered to students. Right now you can email students to notify them that a video or file has been added to their Online Resources. However, when they click the file link in their email they are taken to their home page and not directly to the file I have shared with them.

#### Reasons for choosing My Music Staff

The price was the best and it works just as well as some of the more expensive options out there.

#### Cons

There is no online booking at the moment. Sometimes, people just want to book 1 lesson online without emails or phone calls. They don't have an App. You have to open a window in your phone, which makes it harder to read.

#### Reasons for choosing My Music Staff

Price and support. My Music Staff replied to my email the same day, and offered me an hour to go through a Demo, replied to questions and helped me to understand the process.

#### Reasons for switching to My Music Staff

MMS is such an invaluable resource! I love that I can upload and organize all of my audio files and PDFs for students in the online resource section; my website for enrolling students was easy to build and maintain; invoicing and setting up autopay is A DREAM COME TRUE that was a total game changer for my studio. The calendar and scheduling lessons for multiple locations and teachers is so easy. Parents having access to the student portal with all of its features is such a beautiful asset that makes parents feel like they are getting a wonderful bonus service, beyond just their lessons. I also really love being able to post important emails as news/blog posts in their student portals so that the information is readily, easily accessible at all times! I am also so incredibly impressed with the company’s tech support and the way that they listen to all of us teachers and are continually improving the program to meet OUR needs in the best ways possible!! They also provide all sorts of free worksheets, social media plans, cheat sheets for parents to use the program effectively, and so much more!! I have never once regretted my decision to use MMS and I want every music teacher (even if you just teach by yourself from home) to use this program!!! It will make your life easier and make you automatically appear more professional to your students and their families!! Just do it!! You won’t regret it!!

#### Pros

I liked the fact that I could have my teaching business all in one place, and their's a student portal I can share all my resources.

#### Cons

Every month the invoices and Family Accounts don't match up. Invoices don't make sense most of the time, and if you use the balance brought forward option, it is more often that not, wildly inaccurate. I have been left out of pocket on so many occasions, cos invoices are generated incorrectly from the system. Family accounts are invariably wrong, despite inputting the correct information. My books never balance! I have raised the issue with MMS countless times, and each time they fob me off with generic user manual spiel, but never resolve the issue. The customer service is appalling. Am looking for a new system to use, cos their accounts management is so inaccurate it's really damaging my business now.

I have been able to save time invoicing students automatically and I don't have to create each individual invoice. My students love the automatic reminders and it saves me time when students actually show up at the right time. I like how I can add information for each student and it keeps all the information in one space for me. I like that I can customize the registration form to ask the questions I want.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

The best features are the automatic invoicing based on the calendar, the reminder texts and emails, the registration form and how I can put it on my website through Weebly, and the student management.

#### Cons

There is no way for two parents to each pay half of a bill for a student. I have worked around this by making a second "student" for the second parent to pay for. I also don't like how the invoices are specific enough and will just say "balance forward" instead of what the charge was. I wish I could customize the left sidebar to take out the features I don't use.

#### Reasons for choosing My Music Staff

It's an all-in-one system for billing, scheduling, invoicing and more rather than using several different services to do the same thing.

I definitely have been having a great experience with My Music Staff. Especially their actual staff members. I spoke with [SENSITIVE CONTENT] recently and she did a phenomenal job at helping me fix my accounting issues and invoicing issues. She was very easy to talk to you she listened to my concerns and questions that I had and took time to teach me how to fix my accounting problems. I had several students accounts that had it inputs put in the wrong way for discounts etc. and she was able to quickly spot what the problems were as well as allow me the time to fix them and explain why not to do what I did before and how to properly and put the information I need to moving forward and why. I told her I think it would be nice if My Music Staff will give her a bonus to make videos on how to create invoices and teaching users how to utilize accounting and how all of the features work together to help balance out the accounting page and create invoices all of the ends and outs! She would be great at that as well!

#### Pros

It’s really kind of hard to pinpoint what specifically I like because there’s a lot of features that I do like such as being able to schedule, pull reports, upload videos for our students, upload link sent of the learning material for our students, payroll etc

#### Cons

I don’t like that I’m not able to use PayPal and stripe at the same time to except payments. I do have parents who like to pay through PayPal as well but I have to utilize a different source to receive those payments because only stripe or PayPal can be used one at a time. I wish that it was also a lot easier to understand how to utilize the invoice an account features. I have gotten pretty confused and had to call in and ask questions several times in order to really get the hang of it. It can be a bit confusing without that additional coaching to understand how to bill clients. I’ve had moments where my numbers were off because I gave an additional discount or I build them incorrectly and didn’t understand how I did it or why.

#### Reasons for choosing My Music Staff

I love the fact that I can control my accounting invoices and payments through this program! Even though I have my own website I also love the fact that I have the option to create my own website to My Music Staff as well!

#### Vendor response

Hi Irma, thanks for a great review! We actually do have a number of tutorial videos already, including ones that go over various parts of invoicing. We also have a Getting Started Guide on our website that goes over how all of the features work together :)

Online and phone support & the 1-on-1 live training are excellent. The HELP area is nice. Downloads are fun and informative.

#### Pros

Calendar, ease of website design, online resources, repertoire, expenses, etc. This is a great program. I never used the "old" version, but the online complaints just remind me of the 2009 Facebook crowd whining about the new versions thru the years. We don't throw sheep at each other anymore or play Mafia wars either. lol

#### Cons

Lesson Notes: Can't add jpg PLEASE! It looks like an email template, can't be like one?Repertoire: Can't just look at final design, have to go into Edit mode. Can't add jpg. OMG, PLEASE!FONTS and SIZING and PARAGRAPHs in lesson notes AND emails. OMG why are they all over the place? If I change my mind and ctrl-x and ctrl-v, all of a sudden, everything is wonky. I can start a blank lesson note and immediately change the font size to legible (instead of teeny). If I need to insert or edit whatever, bam, it's back to the teeny font size.

#### Reasons for choosing My Music Staff

I was done when I saw the ease of the website design AND an invoice/calendar system.

I have used MyMusicStaff for several years now. I highly recommend it due to their user-friendly and intuitive technology; and their outstanding real-time customer service with HUMANS available for any thorny issues that occur.

#### Pros

The calendar and invoicing systems are the BEST!!!!

#### Cons

Some of the menu options do not fit on a desktop screen so I have to "scroll" to the right or left to "see" everything. I would prefer that all information is "viewable" on one screen.

#### Reasons for choosing My Music Staff

The simplicity of use and real-time LIVE customer service.

### I switched to my music staff for the price and stayed for ease-of-use.

I am far more capable of streamlining and implementing my studio policies with my music staff. Bookkeeping is so much more organized. I am proud to refer my music staff to my friends.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5

#### Pros

My very favorite part of my music staff is invoicing! And I love her students can manage their lesson cancellations in the calendar. My music staff has a small price to pay, but ultimately helps me manage my earnings and probably saves me money in the long run because it is much easier to keep track of cancellations and make up lessons. I also really like how I have opportunity to have a website. Another big favorite aspect of the program of mine is that students can register themselves into Recitals.

#### Cons

The concept of make up classes is sometimes hard to get across to students, but the functionality is fine! The phone app is a little hard to use, especially when trying to edit titles of news and blog posts. Sometimes it freezes. But this is a very minor part of my use of my music staff.

#### Reasons for choosing My Music Staff

Pricing. I also prefer the name.

It's been just great. Everything I used to do using physical lesson notes and email and Dropbox I can do all with this program.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5

#### Pros

Everything that I mentioned about MMS being the best possible music lesson software out there on the previous page! The best things are it allows students to make payments via Stripe, and has a fantastic scheduling and lesson notes system.

#### Cons

Only thing I could say is that the formatting for lesson notes can be a little glitchy sometimes. Otherwise everything's perfect.
