Gaining Control of the Uncontrolled; using AIM Vision

PROS

AIM Vision software enables the User the ability break down the key items by categories; EDI, Inventory, Orders, Shipping, MFG, Scheduling, Purchasing, Production and much more. As you break down in to the separate areas; the system allows a clean path for the Security Groups along with restrictions to enable a broader range of use by different level employees utilizing the system. The EDI segment within AIM provides a very open scope and enables the user to work with so many variations of Customer Requirements and when needed; the EDI segment can be customized as needed to meet the Customer Requirements, if the Customer(s) are not utilizing a standard EDI process at the time. The EDI Reports are straight forward; from the 830 and 862 which are so widely used and auto scheduling of items is also an item that has provided added benefits to our process. The Inventory and Orders segment within AIM has provided the ability to quickly look up Items as well as provide the status within the process and what is Ready to Ship along with planning information. The ability to also utilize the system from the stand point of any Customer Returns has been very helpful in creating better traceability of items as well as create a standard process for returns; then reporting the information out; the process also helps to make needed CUM adjustments as need when related to return items. The Purchasing side has provided a main point of use companywide for purchasing of items via Blanket Orders or Spot-Buy Orders. And the ability to associate the costs of items to a "Project" has been helpful in the past to provide upper Management better information on staying on track related to costs associated to a project launch. The Production side of AIM is utilized across all (3) Shifts; providing valuable information related to production. Production postings can provide information related to a Work-Center, Operator, Shift, or Part Number; and then opportunity to review based on key areas and enable better business decisions to be made based on order information.

CONS

Two areas that appear to need added enhancements made. 1). The Customer Return could use some added functionality; look to add the ability to associate costs of a Customer Return, tracking of a 8D Return process, placing inventory on HOLD associated to a RMA to prevent shipment of product and added reporting. The customer returns are going to happen, so the added enhancements to improve the process and enable the user to standardize on the process using AIM Vision would bring Value Add to the software. 2). Dashboard; create a functional connection using a dashboard environment to allow the user the ability to access information across all categories as you would in the reporting, but provide the user a more interactive interface to the data.

We are a manufacturer and automotive supplier who rely on AimVision to manage our inventory, production and shipping. We are fortunate to have been users of AimVision since 1999, and before that there non-GUI offering. They had made the transition to GUI seamlessly, allowing us to maintain keyboard-driven repetitive entry while giving us the ease of use of mouse-driven events, screens, and customized reporting. The implementation back then was thorough and allowed us to continue our processes without a hitch. Since AIM personnel have performed scores of implementations since then, they have accumulated the knowledge and experience to handle any type of installation. AIM Computers support has also grown throughout the years and the team is responsive, knowledgeable, and very open to enhancement requests and suggestions. They know we are the ones using their product day-to-day and are very receptive to ideas and improvements from the customer base. They provide service packs on a regular basis, not simple patches but releases that add features. The latest offering will allow us to interface AimVision with Dynamics SL 2011, and we are excited to update our financial applications to match the robustness that we get from our ERP package. I’m in IT, but I can appreciate that non-IT personnel can install the service packs easily. AIM Computers have many customers that get by without a dedicated IT department, and since AIM is a certified Microsoft gold partner, they can provide assistance if needed. Because our ERP system works so well, I’m actually glad when ERP solicitors call. I tell them, “No thanks we’re good”.

AIM manufacturing software

PROS

Overall good product and support. Does a wide variety of tasks for an enterprise software solution. Very good on the EDI side.

CONS

Cannot manufacture one part number in multiple plants. At least not yet anyways. We have three plants and can make a part number in more than one, but the software only allows tagging a part to one location. You can change the location at will, but not log in production from multiple plants.

Some of the reports I use are still not extractable to excel. I would like to make some of the reports I use regularly "My Favorites" so it is quicker to pull them up and run the report.
