### Secondary ratings

- Ease of use: 4.2/5
- Customer support: 4.0/5
- Value for money: 4.1/5
- Functionality: 4.3/5

### Rating distribution

- 5 stars: 68 reviews (46%)
- 4 stars: 69 reviews (47%)
- 3 stars: 7 reviews (5%)
- 2 stars: 1 reviews (1%)
- 1 star: 2 reviews (1%)

### Most mentioned pros

- I particularly liked its flexibility, customizable workflows, real-time reporting, and the ability to manage multiple entities and currencies.
- My ability to select my own OS, database and choose on premises or cloud without rearchitecting the application to switch later gave me more architectural control than most cloud only ERPs I have reviewed for this process.
- Its inventory management capabilities offer real-time stock visibility, warehouse tracking, and improved inventory control, helping streamline day-to-day operations.

### Most mentioned cons

- The main drawbacks are the complexity of upgrades in customized environments, inconsistent documentation, occasional performance issues, and a user experience that still has room for improvement compared to newer cloud ERP platforms.
- Before starting the assignment, I was certain that Sage X3 would be an outdated tool forced upon organizations. But the possibility of launching it in 50 working days through pre-built templates is a statistic that blew me out of the water, especially considering the nightmare experiences described in textbooks which often last several years.
- Its one thing to have minimal (and expensive) courses for advanced users/certifications, but there's not even basic courses like 'what is a workflow,' or 'how to set up a dashboard or landing page.'

### A heavy-duty ERP that excels at automation and inventory tracking

Overall, my experience with Sage X3 has been very positive. It has successfully solved our problem of fragmented systems by bringing inventory, sales, and operations into one single platform. Even though the implementation takes effort and requires a solid budget, it offers incredible value for money in the long run because of how much manual work it automates. It has fundamentally streamlined our day-to-day business processes and made our entire supply chain way more predictable.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

What I honestly like most about Sage X3 is how deeply it handles process automation across different departments. The inventory management module is incredibly robust; it gives you real-time visibility into stock levels, multi-warehouse tracking, and global supply chains without breaking a sweat. It also ties beautifully into sales management, meaning orders automatically update stock counts and trigger production or shipping workflows instantly. On top of that, the security features are enterprise-grade, giving us full control over user roles, permissions, and audit trails so sensitive financial data stays protected.

#### Cons

The biggest drawback is definitely the learning curve. Sage X3 is massive, and because it is so highly customizable, onboarding new users takes a lot of time and hands-on training. It’s not an "out-of-the-box" software you can figure out in a weekend. Also, during initial configuration or major system updates, we ran into minor bugs and performance issues that required reaching out to technical support. While their customer support team is knowledgeable, getting complex issues resolved can sometimes take longer than expected because of how deeply customized our system is.

### Sage X3 overall is a great product, but like any may have its issues.

Overall it has been good. We have a vendor that we work with that is very knowledgeable and helpful in customizations and automations. There have been a few things that we have had issues with and even Sage can not seem to find an answer to the questions. They will test on their side and it works but does not for us. Hard to say if that is a flaw in the software or just do to changes we have made along the way.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

It is a good ERP system for small to mid size companies. All ERP systems are expensive but this one is not a bad cost and has a lot of modules that can be used and or configured. It may take the use of a third party, but it can be customized to do just about anything you need. They offer on site and cloud versions depending on your needs. All ERP systems take time to learn, but if you have experience in them, this one should not be that hard to learn.

#### Cons

It is a small niche of users and companies that seem to use it so finding someone that has experience with it can be hard. One con to me that may not be for others is they quickness of their updates, but more so how fast they do not want to support older versions. We validate our system and each time we are forced to update because they will not support the version we are on takes a lot of time and money. If there are security issues or bug fixes we always apply them and test, but when they are just pushing new features that we do not need and then are forced to spend a lot of time and money to update and validate, it is quite annoying.

#### Reasons for choosing Sage X3

The cost and implementation of the others was higher and this one had the features we needed for a cost that was easier to take.

Overall the system works and has a lot of functionality. The constant and unrelenting challenge in scouring the internet for days trying to find the solution for one thing that isn't working correctly is head-splitting. There needs to be more resources from Sage on basic information and a lower barrier of entry to learn intermediate function concepts.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 2/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Customization and versatility is nice when you have a clear plan for how you want to use the system for unique company needs

#### Cons

the learning curve is STEEP from an admin or development perspective and there is almost no learning resources for basic functions through sage university. Its one thing to have minimal (and expensive) courses for advanced users/certifications, but there's not even basic courses like 'what is a workflow,' or 'how to set up a dashboard or landing page.' The closed vault of sharing information inhibits growth and adaptation.

### Feature-Rich ERP That Supports Business Growth

- Overall rating: 5/5

In general, my experience with Sage X3 has been quite good. It is a comprehensive ERP system that possesses excellent capabilities in finance, inventory management, purchasing, and logistics. This solution allows the flexibility and scalability required for further business expansion and better efficiency and visibility of operations. Even though the implementation process and system adaptation may take up a lot of effort and cost, its value in terms of better control and decision making has been undeniable for us.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 3/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

The most attractive aspect of Sage X3, to my opinion, is its flexibility and ability to perform several different business functions from one single software. It facilitates all financial, inventory, procurement, and other similar aspects of business and provides real-time insight into its operation. Its flexible nature enables customization according to the unique demands of business and, due to scalability, Sage X3 turns out to be a very good option for small businesses.

#### Cons

The aspects of Sage X3 that I liked the least were the complexity in implementation and the learning curve associated with getting used to the software. The system offers extensive customization capabilities, but at the same time, some features may take more time and skills to configure and maintain than others. Additionally, advanced report generation may require extra configuration and even the use of external tools.

#### Reasons for switching to Sage X3

An ERP that could handle these expanding roles of supply chain management among other activities became increasingly necessary due to increasing difficulties with customization and integration of our current software. This was primarily due to the need for increased flexibility, which only something like Sage X3 would be able to offer.

### A Student's Game-Changer for Understanding Real-World ERP & AI

Overall, the experience has been very enlightening for me. Before starting the assignment, I was certain that Sage X3 would be an outdated tool forced upon organizations. But the possibility of launching it in 50 working days through pre-built templates is a statistic that blew me out of the water, especially considering the nightmare experiences described in textbooks which often last several years. With the help of the interactive product tour, I could simulate management of the distribution chain. The process automation of orders (which has reached 75%) showed clearly how useful the artificial intelligence can be while dealing with monotonous work. Although I did not get a chance to explore the financial reporting module personally, I found the demos of global consolidation very impressive in the context of my assignment on international tax management. In this case, it has become less a task and more a look behind the curtain of what I will be working with after I graduate.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

The thing that impressed me most was the perfect integration of AI by way of Sage Copilot. As someone writing a dissertation on automation of the supply chain, the ability to pose natural-language queries as well as getting notifications on high-priority shipments or financial irregularities seemed like peeking into the future of business management. Also, I must admit that I liked the user-friendly dashboard a lot. I was scared of launching a sophisticated ERP system, but the WMS turned out to be very visual and user-friendly. It is a huge bonus that there is a built-in support for all the world (consolidation of multi-entity and multi-currency support in over 80 countries).

#### Cons

Honestly, the biggest hurdle for me was the lack of accessible student or educational pricing. I completely understand this is enterprise software, but having a sandbox or limited free tier for university research would have made my life so much easier. Additionally, while the core dashboard is intuitive, diving into the deeper manufacturing and process management modules had a steep learning curve. If you don't already have a foundational understanding of production workflows, you will need to invest significant time in tutorials before you can fully leverage the advanced customization features.

#### Reasons for switching to Sage X3

In choosing Sage X3 as my ERP for my dissertation work on the use of AI in SCM, I was looking for an ERP system that included AI components. Sage X3 with its Sage Copilot, anomaly detection, among others, had features not available in other ERP systems that I examined. Additionally, the 50 working days deployment period made it more suitable for my case study on agile business transformation.

### An Enterprise Powerhouse with a Demanding Footprint

Overall, my experience with Sage X3 has been highly positive when deployed for complex, multi-site enterprises that need a robust backend engine. It bridges the gap between mid-market cost and tier-one ERP muscle, proving exceptionally dependable for scaling operations globally. However, it requires a realistic approach to implementation; it is not a plug-and-play solution, and its true potential is only unlocked when an organization invests heavily in proper system architecture design, data governance, and ongoing expert technical management

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 3/5
- Customer support: 3/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

What stands out most from an architectural viewpoint is its native deployment flexibility and deep multi-entity framework. Unlike rigid cloud-only alternatives, Sage X3 gives us true infrastructure control by supporting cloud, on-premises, or hybrid setups without forcing a rewrite of core application logic. Additionally, its out-of-the-box ability to handle multi-currency, multi-site logistics, and complex global compliance legislations saves dozens of hours otherwise spent developing and maintaining costly custom integration plug-ins.

#### Cons

From a technical integration perspective, the split architecture is incredibly frustrating. Sage X3 is still transitioning legacy modules to the modern web API, resulting in a fractured ecosystem where some modules require newer class-based Web APIs while others are stuck using older, rigid SOAP protocols. Furthermore, the system’s massive backend complexity severely impacts cash flow because any major upgrade requires high-cost specialized developers to ensure custom scripts do not break, and the official admin documentation via Sage University is notoriously scarce.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5

#### Pros

Sage X3 is highly flexible, customizable, and integration-friendly. Its strong ERP capabilities, extensive API support, and ability to adapt to complex business requirements make it an excellent platform for mid-sized and global organizations.

#### Cons

The main drawbacks are the complexity of upgrades in customized environments, inconsistent documentation, occasional performance issues, and a user experience that still has room for improvement compared to newer cloud ERP platforms.

For mid sized enterprises Sage X3 could really be realiable and I would heavily recommend it. If having control over the OS and database you use is important then this is a really attractive option against other purely cloud solutions I surveyed. But the choice of deployment will determine not only hosting costs, but what kind of auth and integration options are actually available to the organisation.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

The deployment flexibility is for real, it's not a check box. My ability to select my own OS, database and choose on premises or cloud without rearchitecting the application to switch later gave me more architectural control than most cloud only ERPs I have reviewed for this process.

#### Cons

The dual API issue is what I'd caution about. The system is still in the process of transitioning older modules from the older screen based logic to the new class based way so there is a split. Some modules only support SOAP and others support the new class based Web API so thete is no one cohesive integration pattern throughout the system.

My overall experience with Sage X3 has been largely positive. The platform provides a solid balance between functionality, flexibility, and value for money. It supports a wide range of business activities and can be customized to fit specific operational needs. While we did experience some bugs, system quirks, and occasional performance issues, they were generally manageable and did not outweigh the benefits of the solution. As users gained experience and processes became more refined, Sage X3 proved to be an effective platform for supporting business growth and operational efficiency.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

I like how Sage X3 brings multiple business functions together in a single platform. This improves project management by providing better visibility into operations, inventory, finance, and resource planning. The system is flexible enough to support unique business requirements and offers extensive customization options when needed. It also provides strong security controls and user permissions, which are important for growing organizations. While users may need training to fully understand the platform, the overall value for money and operational efficiency gained from the system make it a worthwhile investment.

#### Cons

The system does a lot, but sometimes it feels like it tries to do too much at once. This can make navigation confusing and increase the time needed for training. I would like to see a more modern user experience, simplified workflows, and easier self service customization for non technical users.

#### Ratings breakdown

#### Pros

I’have been using Sage X3 close to last year now mainly handling inventory and reposting. The flexibility stand out. we’ve adjusted workflow, built custom reports using the query tool, and connected it with other system through web services. It handles multi location stock and finance together, which saves a lit of back and forth.

I have been working with X3 for over 3 years, and my overall experience with ERPs is more than 12 years. This experience is controversial.
