dotmailer Software

Dotmailer is a Web-based email marketing solution designed for medium and large enterprise customers that offers email design, scheduling and campaign analytics within a suite.

This solution offers easy contact management functionality that allows users to import, add and manage contacts and target them appropriately in email campaigns. Users can automate the process of email delivery using the email scheduler functionality of the software.

Dotmailer also allows users to create customized automation programs for lifecycle marketing, multichannel marketing and repeat purchase targeting.

A key feature of Dotmailer is the split testing module, which allows users to compare and arrive at the most responsive email campaign strategies by performing and tracking multiple trial campaigns.

With the help of customized reports and dashboards to measure the key campaign metrics, users gain a complete view of their email marketing strategy and are better able to make decisions for improving their campaign conversion rates.

Pros

The Dotmailer software was a huge step forward for our organization. We were able to build more attractive emails with higher open rates, quite easily. I love the Easy Editor and Templates, and the ability to adjust HTML code if needed.

Cons

My least favorite part of Dotmailer is the lack of functionality when creating programs-- choosing a program start condition could be easier.

Pros

Ease of use, and reliability. I like the automation features. Support is readily available. Well priced.

Cons

I'd like an easier way to resubscribe people from the unsubscribed list. We have people forget they unsubscribed, and getting them back into the system is a lot of work. Also, we're having issues on how emails look when we forward them. The formatting gets all wonky.

Magento integration, segmentation and advanced subscriber targeting.

Pros

The Magento integration is terrific, you can really give your subscribers email offers tailored to their interests. That's such a crucial part of email marketing. The added bonus of the surveys and module/opt-in forms are amazing for a product in this price range. Listrak is charging one of my clients 20k/yr extra for some of the features baked into Dotmailer. I'll be moving them over to DM soon.

Cons

Once in a while I have some integration issues or glitches but support has been very responsive. Most of the common featureset works flawlessly.

800% increase in revenue from abandoned carts, compared to our old program
Simple and easy segmentation and no need to manually segment people in an excel sheet.

Pros

The level of segmentation you can get down to is amazing and beneficial. Segmentation has proven to be a huge success for us in our emails.

The program feature because you can set up many programs and and let them run right away with no hassle.

With our past software, we had to manually send a lot of things including abandoned carts and review requests, and it was a long process. The integration of Magento is fantastic.

Our dotmailer contact is very responsive and fast when we have questions--sometimes she answers within 3 minutes! That level of customer help is great.

Cons

The logic behind the programs sometimes gets tricky to understand. Luckily our dotmailer rep can normally help with this.

Pros

The ease of use is what I like most about Dotmailer. Our users adapted from the platform they'd been using for years and feel more empowered with the tools/features Dotmailer has to offer. Whenever we've had questions, they've provided excellent customer service.

Cons

The only thing I would say is, more insight into delivery might be helpful.

A lesson in vetting platforms that claim to be solutions more thoroughly before proceeding. Other than that, I cannot think of another benefit.

Pros

The analytics on each email campaign. It is nice to get a visual report following the performance of the email campaign.

Cons

Other than the campaign reports, I have a problem with just about everything else with this platform, particularly the customer service but I suppose that that is not the question here. The platform itself is wildly outdated, seemingly by intention because they will offer you custom templates but with an extremely high cost and they will request that you fill out so much information that you've already done half of the work for them. The drag-and-drop feature is not unique in 2017, which I see is the most frequent positive thing others have to say about it, but the fact that there is no auto-save is absolutely absurd. The platform is also buggy when trying to adjust background colors and with editing photos post-upload. Raising issues to customer service only led to them pointing fingers at me for supposedly not knowing how to use the product and not even once led to a solution.

I have worked with dotmailer for a year now. They're customer success helped me to create campaigns that improved revenue from email by 98% in 11 months. They also gave me a great discount being a nonprofit. As a marketer and not a programmer, Dotmailer has made it easy for me to create sophisticated & segmented campaigns to reach target different demographics. Any time I have a question or a problem, my customer success manager always helps me to sort it out in a timely manner.

Pros

Easy to use
Great Customer Success
Advanced Sophistication

Cons

Lacking integrations with several of the technologies I work with as a nonprofit.
Was quite a jump in price from mailchimp.

Advice to Others

May not be for everyone. Ensure that you have a sizeable contact list or many of their automated programs might not be beneficial in regards to ROI. However, if you are a lean team and in the mid-market this is the perfect solution.
