iContact is a Web-based email marketing tool designed for businesses of all sizes. This solution offers email design, list management, campaign management and social media publishing within a single solution.

iContact features multiple customizable email templates that help users design content for their email campaigns. Users can also schedule message delivery by picking the right tags from their email lists.

A key feature of this solution is SpamCheck, which reduces the chances of emails being labeled spam by checking the email subject, HTML email and text email against a set of rules thereby improving the email deliverability.

In addition to its email marketing capabilities, iContact also offers social media integration with Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, allowing users to publish content on these websites from within the solution itself.

With the help of customized reports and dashboards to monitor campaign performance, users can gain a complete view of all their email campaigns.

Very easy to use and many templates to choose from. I also like that iContact interfaces with Salesforce which we are in the process of possibly implementing for our sales team.

Likes Least

I don't like that I'm not able to send attachments. I also don't like that I can't make the templates wider if I need to.

Recommendations

Determine how much this will fit into your marketing plan. There is a limit on how many emails you can send, how many contacts you can have saved and images. Also, determine if you will be using other software for marketing or sales functions if they will interface with iContact.

The only thing to like about this is the integration with SalesForce. It's extremely embedded and you pretty much do the entire thing and never leave your traditional SalesForce screens.

Cons

Ugliness and features. It's just an old software, basically. It works, but there is very little that you can do to automate process or adapt aesthetics to look like anything other than incredibly out dated. It did not work for us because of this.

The software has come a long way from its earlier stages. The editor is VERY user friendly, but of course has its quirks just like any email software. iContact has worked the best for us, and given us the ability to create an email marketing strategy that is fine tuned to our audience and what they respond to. There is a lot of flexibility and functions that make this product easily tailored to your specific needs as a brand or business. One of our favorite things though, is the support team and specifically our own specialist that has an answer for every problem. He has gone above and beyond to make our experience as smooth and effective as possible.

Cons

As we mentioned, there are quirks with any email software. In particular there are some design/layout functionalities in the new editor that sometimes don't line up just right - or at least don't give us the full access to configure the email certain ways. But we always find an alternative way to make it work.

We get to send out our newletters to our 200K+ subscribers every day on time and accurately.

Pros

How easy it is to maintain out huge list of emails and send to target groups as needed. With names coming in and going out every day, they make it easy to create lists.

Cons

When a email is rejected for some reason, we aren't notified. We have to log in and discover on our own that the message failed.

The site is very simple to use for the beginning email marketer but has plenty of flexibility for a more experienced user. Having the ability to use my own HTML for emails was key, as was having the ability to see who clicked links and what pages of my website they went to.

Cons

I have found that the landing page editor was difficult to learn and didn't have the flexibility I wanted. I did however use the embedded frame feature to get around that.

Response tracking and the fact that iContact customer service supplies pre-designed templates are both positives. A/B testing capability is also a plus.

Cons

Email construction is cumbersome as is adding contacts. Adding contacts requires multiple steps making the process unwieldy.

The feature that helps us the most is the campaign generator. You can create a list of emails that are sent to a specified audience. Whenever that audience needs to be updated, just drop them in and it generates. It's great.

Cons

Honestly, I don't really like any of the email templates. I think they're all kind of corny-looking. The only template I liked to use was the "create-your-own" and they've unfortunately taken that away.

It allows my company to have a clean cut and professional look when marketing our products through email. The easy to add contact options are also great and time saving. We really like the dashboard abilities that allow you to see how the email did.

Pros

I like the ability to create modern looking emails. After sending an email I love seeing who has viewed it. The heat map is also very helpful, it allows me to see how many links were popular.

Cons

The API needs more examples as well as more support. Would love to use it more frequently but it just seems confusing.

Pros

I like the updated user interface, as it is intuitive and easy to use, particularly for the person launching and setting up campaigns, as they are not in the marketing department. The follow up recaps and support of our Icontact Pro Account Strategist has always been very professional and has helped improve our ability to A/B test our headlines and images.

Cons

The first log in screen is slightly confusing as it shows username and paswords for both Icontact and Icontact Pro. Other than that, I am not in the platform personally, enough to describe what I like the least.

In 2017 iContact came out with many nice updates, the best of which was the ability to copy over email templates to different accounts, which has saved us a ton of time. We really like how easy it is to switch back and forth in between our clients in our account, because we usually make changes quite often. I also really like the fact that you are able to make all landing pages and emails mobile friendly. A lot of emails are being opened on mobile devices nowadays, so it is nice to have that capability. I think they will continue to make more improvements in 2018.

I dislike the fact that you are unable to copy over workflows to other campaigns on your account. It seems like a waste of time to remake them all the time. The website is also kind of slow. It seems like we do more time waiting than actually getting work done, which can be very infuriating at times when you are trying to meet a deadline. I do not like how you cannot move landing pages across different accounts, because you have to copy code if you want to move them.

The software makes it very easy to organize our templates and campaigns so we can continue to improve based on what we've done in the past. It also makes it collect all email for a certain department in a single folder and manage the access and sends for that folder. The best part about iContact though, is the people. We have an amazing rep who helps us with everything from template ideas to strategy and deliverability. They are always available as a resource and offer guidance on random areas that, as a fairly new email team, has proven invaluable.

Cons

The only thing I don't like is the requirement to include their footer on every message. It does help with ensuring each message has the required unsub and physical address etc. but our team builds those into our main template designs already and we end up needing to tweak templates before putting into iContact.

Pros

It is quite user-friendly, allowing us to create high-quality, professional emails with strategic segmentation. Their support team is excellent. Our "Strategic Adviser" is always pushing us toward the latest industry best-practices and keeping us at the cutting edge. Their support team is also quick to respond to any challenges we have and readily offers solutions.

Cons

Sometimes it can be glitchy and the format/design that you create doesn't always comet through exactly on different email platforms. Also, it would be ideal if it offered e-commerce tracking.

We love the data we get back from each email. We are able to see trends in the training industry based on what information people are looking at and shape our schedule and content accordingly.

Pros

The drag and drop feature is the best feature because it allows me to build the exact look of the email I am envisioning. I love the use of my images and photos in the library and how I can upload them with ease and fit them into the template design. And - of course - the templates are amazing. Each can be customized based on what I am looking to feature in an email from Postcard to Newsletter to Invitation...the ideas and options are endless.

Cons

I wish there were more options for borders. I really like to add a bit of color to some of my text boxes and the only option right now is to outline/border the entire block...not the mini blocks within the big block.
