No incentive was offered Overall, my experience with Carepatron has been mixed after a year of use. The transcripts and clinical note features are genuinely useful and are probably the parts of the platform I value most. However, the issues with payment processing, client receipts, and unclear subscription billing have become increasingly frustrating. These are not minor inconveniences when they affect client billing and insurance claims, and I would like to see Carepatron address them. While I still find the platform useful, I am less enthusiastic about it than I was when I first started using it. #### Ratings breakdown - Ease of use: 4/5 - Value for money: 3/5 - Customer support: 3/5 - Functionality: 2/5 #### Pros Pros: What do you like most about Carepatron now? After using Carepatron for a year, the features I like most are the session transcripts and the different options for creating clinical notes. The transcripts are extremely useful, and having multiple note options makes documentation much easier and more efficient. I also continue to find the platform intuitive and user-friendly. #### Cons My biggest frustration is how Carepatron handles Stripe credit card fees. The processing fee cannot be itemized on the client's invoice or receipt. For example, if my session fee is $150, the client is charged $155.10, but their receipt still shows only $150. The additional fee is only shown to me in a pop-up when I process the payment, not on the client's receipt. This is especially frustrating because clients need accurate receipts to submit to their insurance. As a result, they have to submit both the Carepatron receipt and their credit card statement to show the actual amount charged, which is an unnecessary headache. The only alternative is for me to absorb the processing fee myself. I also find the subscription billing unnecessarily unclear. My account shows that I am on the Advanced Plan and that I am receiving a 38.46% discount for the next 12 months, but I cannot find the actual amount I am paying anywhere. The product is definitely value for money and great for appointment management. Overall, it helps streamline my practice without adding unnecessary complexity. #### Cons few workflow limitations that make documentation and administrative tasks more time-consuming than they need to be. For example, goals do not automatically carry over into SOAP notes, which means I have to re-enter or manually reference them each session. When creating intake forms, if I input the child’s name, the signature section defaults to the child rather than the parent, which can be confusing and requires extra steps to correct. I also find it inconvenient that I have to create a separate profile for parents instead of having all relevant information under one unified family profile. The claims submission feature is not very user-friendly, which makes billing more cumbersome than it should be. Appointment management is especially seamless—I’m able to schedule, reschedule, and track sessions with minimal effort. I also really appreciate the ability for clients to book their own appointments, which reduces back-and-forth communication and saves time. The platform does a great job supporting client communication and documentation. Sharing documents, sending intake forms, and keeping everything organized in one place has streamlined my workflow significantly. Overall, it simplifies many of the day-to-day administrative tasks that can otherwise become overwhelming. #### Cons One of the biggest challenges is tracking goals. There isn’t a dedicated or intuitive space for goal management, which makes it harder to monitor progress over time within the system. Additionally, the signature feature could be improved—it does not save my signature, so I have to re-enter it for each client, which becomes repetitive and time-consuming. It would also be helpful to have a centralized location where all completed forms can be viewed together. I don't expect much for free but the misleading suggestion that there is a viable free option was very frustrating. Once you hit the 1 GB you lose access to EVERYTHING unless you pay for the upgrade. There is a warning that you are nearing your limit but in my mind, that should not mean you will lose access to everything. I was unable to delete my account or retrieve any records that were within the free 1 GB without paying. They eventually agreed to give me access to delete my account but I was still blocked from downloading the client records which I was able to do before I hit the storage limit. #### Reasons for choosing Carepatron I thought it was going to be easier and less expensive. #### Reasons for switching to Carepatron Looking for a less expensive option, not dependent on number of sessions per month. The program is a great price if you're starting out your private practice. However, it lacks some of the key functionality that a private practice needs to run effectively and efficiently. I also like how the platform has it's own video conferencing option. It is a good price, but there are definite things I would like to see changed. #### Cons Carepatron doesn't feel like a program that was created for therapists to use. When a client or potential client fills out paperwork, it doesn't automatically update personal details, like phone number, date of birth, etc. It also doesn't have a great homepage. I wish it had a place where it indicated you have notes that are drafts or are not yet complete. It also doesn't have reminders that you need to complete something or update a treatment plan. And the calendar program is intuitive. #### Cons If you see couples, it's not possible to automatically load / carry forward group notes from previous sessions. You have to go back to notes from previous weeks, copy the content, and then paste it into the present note.
