### Rating distribution

- 4 stars: 40 reviews (26%)
- 3 stars: 12 reviews (8%)
- 2 stars: 6 reviews (4%)

### Most mentioned pros

- The patient portal is a huge plus, allowing for easy communication and document sharing, which has significantly improved our practice's efficiency and patient engagement.
- They have lots of settings to help customize your setup, and it has worked well for both the providers and administrators in our practice.
- The interface is incredibly intuitive and makes managing patient charts and scheduling seamless.

### Most mentioned cons

- However, system slowdown is a problem that i have faced a few times. When i try to load big files and charts the system starts lagging which is quite frustrating.
- BlueFin is a nightmare and we can't take the risk of working with them (see BlueFin review of overcharging, refusing to close accounts, etc) - because that is the only option, we are having to use a completely different scheduling system so we can charge our cash pay patients.
- Charm use to be good but they really gone downhill and now also the most expensive for absolutely no reason because the features and customer service are sub par.

### Worse EHR when it comes to billing and support

# 1 Star — Extremely Poor Clearinghouse & Enrollment Support I am writing this review from the perspective of a credentialing, ERA/EFT, and payer enrollment specialist with **10+ years of direct experience** assisting healthcare practices with credentialing, clearinghouse enrollments, ERA/EFT setup, electronic claim submission, and revenue-cycle operations. Over the years, I have worked with numerous EHRs, practice-management systems, and clearinghouses—from large enterprise platforms to systems commonly used by behavioral health and psychiatric practices. Unfortunately, after nearly **two years of working with CharmHealth**, their billing enrollment and support process has been one of the most frustrating experiences I have encountered professionally. The primary issue is not simply that an enrollment occasionally gets delayed. Delays can happen with any payer or clearinghouse. The problem has been the **repeated lack of effective follow-through and resolution**. We have experienced situations where enrollment documentation was submitted and then remained unresolved for extended periods—sometimes **three months or longer**. After repeated follow-ups, we have been asked to resubmit documentation or restart portions of the enrollment process. In some cases, by the time the issue was addressed, previously submitted documentation was no longer usable or the process had to begin again. This creates an exhausting cycle: **Submit → wait → follow up → wait again → receive an unclear response → resubmit → follow up again.** For professionals who manage credentialing and revenue-cycle operations, this is not a minor inconvenience. Every unnecessary follow-up consumes administrative hours and increases the cost of managing the practice. More importantly, enrollment problems involving ERA and electronic claim submission can directly interfere with a provider's ability to efficiently bill insurance companies, reconcile payments, and maintain healthy cash flow. What makes this particularly frustrating is that practices continue paying for services while spending substantial additional staff time trying to resolve enrollment issues that should have a clear and organized support process. We have provided requested documentation, followed instructions, responded to requests, and repeatedly attempted to move outstanding enrollments forward. Yet the amount of time our team has spent chasing unresolved issues has become unacceptable. **Billing is the financial backbone of a healthcare practice.** An EHR and clearinghouse relationship should make revenue-cycle operations easier—not create another administrative burden requiring hours of repeated follow-up. Based on my professional experience and our experience working with CharmHealth, I would strongly encourage healthcare providers—particularly behavioral health and psychiatric practice owners—to carefully evaluate other EHR and clearinghouse options before committing their billing operations to this platform. If you are considering CharmHealth, I recommend asking very specific questions before enrolling: * What is the expected turnaround time for ERA and claim-submission enrollments? * Who is responsible for monitoring pending enrollments? * How are stalled or rejected enrollments escalated? * How quickly will the practice be notified when additional documentation is required? * What accountability exists when an enrollment remains unresolved for months? After nearly two years of dealing with these issues, I am beyond frustrated with the amount of professional time and resources that have been consumed. If a **negative five-star rating** existed, that would more accurately reflect my experience with CharmHealth's clearinghouse enrollment support. **— Nauman** Credentialing, ERA/EFT & Enrollment Specialist 10+ Years of Healthcare Revenue-Cycle Experience Remote Office Support, LLC [sensitive content hidden]

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 2/5
- Value for money: 1/5
- Customer support: 1/5
- Functionality: 2/5

#### Pros

EHR itself is okay - Nothing special, feels like any other cookie cutter EHR such as Simple Practice

#### Cons

Their Billing Support, ERA, Claim Enrollment and any support is a NEGATIVE 5. They ignore your important emails asking them on actively work on your enrollments so you can get paid for the work you do but no one seem to know how to successfully complete a payer, claim, ERA enrollment without wasiting months of your time and resources. Look somewhere else. There interest is not in providing you any support just have you sign up that's it. They do not value you as a customer/client

#### Reasons for choosing CharmHealth

It promised a lot ( But after two years of usage - it is a disappointment)

#### Reasons for switching to CharmHealth

Was looking to update the software but charm is a disappointment as well

Frustrating. The tutorials are useless and don't actually help you get up and going. I'm extremely grateful I have another source of income, or I'd be destitute after how many months I've had to go without reimbursement.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 1/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

As far as EMRs go, as a solo provider this is a good option. It's affordable and fairly easy to get up and going. It's pretty bare bones, but I've liked it FAR more than Simple Practice, which I found to be so clunky I've switched to Charm.

#### Cons

The customer service!! You can only contact support via email, and it takes at least a week for any reply. They are NEVER proactive and if you don't know to ask every single minute detail in advance, it won't get done. It's been infuriating and after four months seeing patients, I still haven't been able to bill insurance, all because of Charm!! It has been AGONIZING every step of the way.

#### Reasons for choosing CharmHealth

Price, ability to implement on a small scale

#### Reasons for switching to CharmHealth

Simple practice was a terrible platform for prescribers, more appropriate for therapists only.

As a small practice, CharmHealth has been pivotal in our success as setting it up was fast and easy. Customer service is prompt and has solved my problem 100% of the time. They don't rip off or make you pay for unnecessary bells and whistles.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

CharmHealth was very easy to set up and get started in terms of cost and customization. You can change things as you go and add on features the need arises. You don't need to pay for things you don't need. Customer service is easy to reach and responsive. Calendar and payment are built in, so you don't need different contracts/payments or programs to set up with and interface.

#### Cons

I wish the note was more customizable and labs autopopulated. I would love to use dot phrases because they are much faster than setting up then clicking through to get the right template. I wish I could design tables/flowsheets (ie to compare DXA over the years) that I could pull into the note.

#### Reasons for choosing CharmHealth

It was the cheapest and offered the most customizable EMR.

Our practice partners want to practice medicine. They don't want to spend all their time on the computer. As a Telehealth focused practice we want the systems to ease our note taking burden and this EMR does that nicely.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

CharmHealth has been a great find for our practice. The setup time was next to nothing and the ease at which our providers were able to learn the software was surprising.

#### Cons

The scheduling portion of the software is the one area I think the product owners at CharmHealth could really improve. The limitations are not insurmountable, but compared to the rest of the product, this area could use some updating. It isn't easy to set up block time and if you want the patients to be able to schedule the times at which the patients can see on the web are not customizable to the practice leaving very little options for the practice. I think this is the biggest opportunity Charm has for improvements. The other improvement suggestion comes in the way of being Telehealth focused. There are several areas in the product that still focus heavily on having an office (like uploading insurance cards), however, if we aren't in the office that becomes a challenge,

I signed up for a subscription with Charm EHR under Kenyetta Midwifery for $25. The original amount was taken from the account immediately at sign up. Several months go by and I notice a $245 charge has been deducted from my account. I immediately filed a dispute with my bank because I did not OPT for an automatic subscription for $245 nor did they have permission to deduct that amount. When they found out about the dispute, they tried to bully me and asked me to cancel the dispute amid their deceitful tactic to take money from me without prior knowledge or indication that they would be taking the money. I stood my ground and told them I would not be cancelling the dispute for the reasons above and I made them aware that I’ve seen several reviews on platforms where other businesses have experienced the same thing. My bank ruled in my favor and I never heard from them again. A few days later I called someone over the phone and cancelled the subscription. I was told because I filed the dispute the account would automatically be canceled and did not need any further action. As of [sensitive content hidden] , they repeat the same offense. They took $175 from my account after I canceled the account months ago in November 2023 and I have not used the service since. I sent an email requesting a refund and was told I did not cancel the account. I told them to pull an audit trail of the account to prove that I have not logged in and/or used the service. I would like a refund in the amount of $175 and to stop charging my card for a service I cancelled and do not use.

### User Friendly Effective EMR

An effective EHR for us as compared to other software packages that is easy to use and cost effective for a smaller practice. Many enhancements have been made over the past 2 years which has made it even more attractive to use.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

We changed to CharmHealth about 2 years ago after using PracticeFusion which did not have the flexibility we needed to add information. This software is easily customizable and has a vast library of templates for pre completed notes. It was easy to customize and had all the features we needed. Calendar is very user friendly and integrates well with the EHR. Can easily print out hard copies of anything we need and especially immunization records which are frequently requested by patients.

#### Cons

Although it hasn't been an issue for us, for a very large practice the cost could get rather high as compared to other EHR platforms. Since I have a relatively small practice, the cost is not an issue. There have been problems with sending eprescriptions - The software can not locate the particular medication and you must know the generic as well as the trade name on occasion to get it through. There have been issues with locating pharmacies at times although, I must say, customer support has been helpful and has tried to rectify these issues as they come up. Minor problem exists with entering patient email addresses. Software sometimes flags as invalid email address with anything that ends in *.com. You need to enter the email address as ".net then got back and re-enter the correct email address. Customer service has yet to fix this problem.

#### Reasons for switching to CharmHealth

Was no longer free - software had limited flexibility.

I have used Charm for almost three years now for my private practice and it is cost-effective and so powerful and customizable.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Charm can be customized and personalized. There is a steep learning curve, and it is worth learning and making your own. I bill, send invoices, schedule, use the website scheduling widget, chart, communicate through the secure portal. The support team is constantly innovating and improving the product.

#### Cons

I loved the Zoom integration when it was impossible to get HIPAA compliant Zoom for less than $200/month. Now, it is no longer as cost effective. Support sometimes takes up to a week to respond to an email, though I have had good results with chatting with support through the website. Like all programs with legacy code, some of the templates that I have used for years get a little buggy. I wish the patient portal was mobile-friendly; it works best on tablets and desktops.

#### Reasons for choosing CharmHealth

Luminello promised group functionality for years, but I think they still don't have it. The booing page for Luminello was buggy and not working when I was looking for a new EMR, so I did not commit to it.

#### Reasons for switching to CharmHealth

Simple Practice did not have e-prescribing. Charm's billing is better.

It is OK for clinics just starting out. Once you get beyond 2 patients an hour, it takes too long to chart and bill appropriately.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 3/5
- Customer support: 2/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

Great small all-around software that provides everything a small company needs. You can see a patient's financials from right within the chart, which is excellent. As well as their prior appointments. You can copy over phrases or entire notes from prior as well. e-scripts are easy, but do lack notifications. Scheduling is good. And, patient is able to book their appointments from your website.

#### Cons

Charting can be combersome. Our main issue is that the billing isn't robust enough. You have to use their system and their billers to get any benefit out of it.

#### Reasons for choosing CharmHealth

The look and feel, ease of use was great. Customer service is terrible.

#### Reasons for switching to CharmHealth

Jane didn't have insurance integration.

#### Pros

This is the most affordable option out there and really provides you the option to grow. If you are a new practice and don't need a lot of bells and whistles, then this is a great option. Fancier features cost more.

#### Cons

My main gripe was with the online booking. There was no way to customize menus or offer links for one service so the patient is presented with every service available for online booking in alphabetical order. No way to change the order unless you get creative with naming of services. There is also only one option for integrated payment processing which was not good for me, especially since that company took 6 months to respond to me about opening an account.

This is the WORST EHR ever. Totally inefficient. Wastes hours of time day in and day out. Absolutely horrible help. They never call back or fix the issue. They might fix 1/5 issues after 10 days. DO NOT GET THIS EHR!!! I would change if I were not in an office of naturopaths who have used it before I joined this office.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 2/5
- Value for money: 1/5
- Customer support: 1/5

#### Pros

Nothing good compares to the bad. This program is the WORST

#### Cons

This is the worse EHR I have ever used. It is clunky. It wastes so much time. it does not alphabetize drop-down lists. It accesses a database for ICD10 Codes that is completely unusable and a total waste of time. It has completely lost medical records that it should be saving after 1 hour of work. The customer service is TERRIBLE. They will not fix your program. You are asked to write them with your issue but the issues are NEVER fixed, nor does anyone ever call you back. It lists diagnosis codes that are incorrect and therefore put you at medical legal risk. And they charge you every time you ask a question or make a record to try something out during programming.

I had to. I am thinking of completely changing this system.

Billing and customer service is a nightmare. I started using Charm Billing back to October 2020. I got a zoom training for about an hour or two, during the training, there was one or two insurance was put into the system. After that, I was told to do it myself. However, I could not login for a long time. Finally, I had to set up another login in order to get into the right place. Until March 2021, I finally was told that the first ERA from the first enrolled insurance company would sync data with CharmEHR. It has been 5 months for one thing to work. Even today, April 1, 2021, I still not get ERA for every insurance enrolled. I has been contacting optum and Charm for discount for the time that billing not totally function. So far, Optum told me it is Charm's issue, and Charm just not respond to this request at all!! When I contacted customer service for anyone who can handle this case, the only thing I got was "sorry", and then no more after, the chat was terminated. Not accurate patient's due and reports No emergency help! For customer service, yes, you can email or chat with someone. For email, sometimes take a day or two to get a reply, sometimes take several days to get a reply, not reliable. One day, I found that it took forever to open Charm website on Chrome, but my assistant who use Safari seemed OK. So I switched to Safari for a couple of days. Speed was OK after switch, however, when I edit patient's info, when update phone number, not working. So I switched back

I like that telemedicine platform, that is easy to use, and the fullscripts it easy. That's the only thing that really makes it stand out from other EMRs.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 2/5
- Value for money: 3/5

#### Pros

Fullscripts integration, telemedicine, PMP integration.

#### Cons

There is no orders tab, no diagnostic testing tab. Everything that is a task, can be completed, but not deferred or deleted if not performed. There is no integration of software for diagnostic testing like EKG, Spirometry, or Holter Monitors. The process of customization is not very easy. When a lab order is connected with an encounter it can't be modified through the lab tab (makes NO sense). Billing needs to be updated, it's completely an obsolete system that is being used. More providers would use this if you would fix, incorporate, include these MAJOR items.

#### Reasons for choosing CharmHealth

cost, telemedicine, fullscripts

#### Ratings breakdown

#### Pros

For the price of the product, you receive a lot of features that are missing or outdated in other EHRs. The RCM team also can do a great job handling your claims.

#### Cons

Some of the features require you to exit your current window to add or find information and then return to the current window. This breaks the smooth workflow and adds some time to completing some of the encounters.

#### Reasons for switching to CharmHealth

Decision was mostly based on the cost of DrChrono at the time.

### A Practical Approach to Integrating an EHR into a Medical Practice

I would definitely purchase this EHR again. It is saving time which is now spent on developing and maintaining our patient base. The recall system has been most helpful. Automating the process for upcoming appointments and lab tests has eliminated a patient from not having the proper screenings prior to the Doctor's appointment. It also keeps the patient from getting 'lost' because a recall wasn't done.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

The software is user friendly. Setup is not difficult. Learning the system is logical. Being able to access the different elements of the Charm EHR helps with training the employees using the system. As they begin to integrate the information about the practice into the Charm EHR their initial orientation reinforces the information they need to complete their tasks. Being able to add different programs is a plus factor. You don't become overwhelmed with too much information at one time. If there are problems support is there to assist where assistance is needed.

#### Cons

I would like to see Charm use videos with explanations that can be downloaded as slides in order to be able to quickly reference the items being taught. Chatting is fine but when you are interrupted and come back to what you were doing there maybe a lapse of time whereby you are not able to recall exactly what you were suppose to do to resolve the problem. Perhaps U-Tube could be an answer if Charm doesn't have their own site setup. This would be a more user friendly method of learning the EHR.

#### Reasons for choosing CharmHealth

Charm provided the products we needed at a reasonable cost. Charm also allowed us time to review the products they offered then allowed us to opt in on our own time allowing us to not feel pressured.

#### Reasons for switching to CharmHealth

Not cost effective

### Overall Positive, could use some improvements

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5

#### Pros

For the most part, Charm is user-friendly and easy to navigate. They have lots of settings to help customize your setup, and it has worked well for both the providers and administrators in our practice.

#### Cons

Messages are not searchable, so old messages among members get easily lost. The invoices tab in the billing page should allow more space for billing-related notes for each patient.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

Charm is a user friendly, patient friendly, online EMR system. It has many different features that help to automate many tedious tasks and help take the burden off of smaller clinics/teams. We've had an excellent experience with claims and reimbursement working with their billers, RCM.

#### Cons

Charm occasionally has small bugs, and the specific team assigned to resolve can sometimes take a while to respond to the inquiry. If their investigation doesn't find any issue, there isn't much follow up-- I wish that they would schedule a virtual screenshare to see the issue happen in real time and help resolve user issue.

It's far easier and more comprehensive to navigate than it's competitor products. The customer service and response time is superb (within minutes of hopping on to the chat on Charmehr.com with customer service). Links automatically with Fullscript and Wellevate. Excellent for Naturopathic, Integrative doctors, and acupuncturist style practices. Features can always be simplified optionally.

#### Cons

I wish I could take CC payments and info for the cancellation's and for appointment confirmation automatically.

I use charm to it's fullest extent. It has literally changed and helped my practice grow. They are always improving and making updates to the software and are good at listening to customers needs. Customer service could be faster but once you get up and running it is an excellent product.

#### Ratings breakdown

Documentation & scheduling as well as inventory modules are critical to the success of my clinic and movement of patients through the day.

#### Cons

Customer service really could be a lot faster. It always takes at least 24 hours if not more for questions to be answered no matter how simple they are.
