Designed by ED Docs for ED Docs!
We have used PulseCheck ED to help care for and manage patients in our emergency departments since the inception of our company. We continue to squeeze out additional functionality to use the solution with our hospitalized patients.
PROSWith the exponentially increasing complexity, staggering initial and ongoing costs and significant workflow disruptions imposed by most electronic health record software systems, PulseCheck ED is a breath of fresh air! Designed by ED Clinicians for ED Clinicians, PulseCheck ED manages to sidestep these disadvantages while providing a cost-effective, streamlined, patient- and provider-focused product designed to help rather than impede the care of our patients. I am equally impressed by the PulseCheck ED team’s aptitude and desire in molding the software to meet special hospital system needs.
CONSThis solution is expertly designed for use in the emergency department but is still growing with respect to ED boarders and/or ED Observation Units. We have had challenges adapting the solution for use in an inpatient setting however it was never the intent nor design of PulseCheck ED to be used in these clinical settings. Despite those limitations we, in lock-step with the PulseCheck ED developers, are designing and adding functionality to move us closer to a usable solution.

PulseCheck
When we switched from paper to the computer system, I worried it would be a problem since I was not experienced in using computers. I volunteered to train as a superuser thinking it would help me to gain confidence and it did. I am now an educator for the system in the ED. I also do "builds" - order sets and customizing templates. My experience has been very positive.
PROSPulseCheck is user friendly for documentation and placing orders for patients in the ED. It is easy to navigate. It helps with the flow in the ED. The tracking board is a visual snapshot of what is happening in the ED. It assists in collecting data and there are many reports within the system.
CONSThat it does not communicate with the other systems we have.

Great Niche system
The tracking board gives a TON of information at a glance and there is a lot of ability to customize the user experience. Also, the ability to customize documentation templates has proven very useful. Finally, I can not say enough good things about the application support personnel. They are knowledgeable, efficient and friendly. Having supported many different software platforms, I know this is PRICELESS!
CONSThe lack of a true MAR is limiting when we need to board patients in the ED. This is being developed now though. In all fairness, this software is meant for true ED workflows not for boarding long term patients. Just the changing face of healthcare

Some challenges in rolling out but great customer service and customizability
The customer service and responsiveness of the Pulsecheck team has been impactful and help make this program very functional. It is very customizable for individual needs.
CONSThere have been some issues with speed. There are a few nonintuitive functions (such as an error screen if you hit "enter" rather than using your mouse to select "search"). The program is not yet at its full potential for functionality.
