TheraNest is an HIPAA compliant web-based mental health solution used by solo practitioners, large mental health practices, and nonprofit organizations. The solution is suited for therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, and social workers.

TheraNest offers electronic medical records (EMR) software with a mobile app for Android and iOS. The solution also includes a client portal, patient scheduling, DSM/ICD codes, progress notes, treatment plans, and discharge notes. Users can review and cosign notes and build custom forms.

TheraNest’s billing features include insurance claims, credit card services, and batch invoices. Users can generate reports, including payroll, staff billing, and invoice reports. Unlimited document storage and unlimited support are included.

TheraNest’s client portal - TheraBook, allows clients to schedule appointments, complete demographic information, enter insurance information and submit intake forms from within their own secure accounts. Everything entered in the client portal will sync to clients’ accounts in TheraNest. The system also includes voice, text and email reminders for patients.

Practicality of TheraNest

I would greatly consider TheraNest as your EMR/EHR!!!!!

Pros

I like all the features in TheraNest but what I most love about it is that they have incorporated into their program ALL the Wiley Planners which makes treatment plan development for Substance Use or Mental Health easy to do.

Cons

There is nothing I didn't like about TheraNest. It is easy to use and easy to add on support staff or other Therapist.

Great software for group practice

Pros

The best part for us is that it is easy to use in a group practice. Software that handles a group practice is hard to find. The video training is helpful. It is a good detailed system for client note taking.

Cons

I don't like that you have to make sure you press "save" after everything. This software definitely has a learning curve. No real way to customize either.

Second to None

I came in to a situation where the former Admin was the only one who knew how to use TheraNest, key word being former. As such, I had little to no time to teach myself this system, which, turned out not to be any problem for anyone other than the Customer Support team. Their patience cannot be compared. Their understanding confuses me for I do not even know what I was asking 99.9% of the time. And, the amount of extra work these poor people had to take on fixing errors, even a deep sigh would have been no way near adequate but nothing other than sheer pleasantness. Even now that I am more up to speed, our therapists not so much which leads me to, still, constantly turn to TheraNest for help. I highly recommend

Haven't found one yet, despite numerous attempts, by a number of people, to find one.

I love TheraNest!

I tried 3 different practice management software programs and TheraNest was by far the most user-friendly and affordable! I've already recommended it to two colleagues who are happy customers as well!

Pros

Love, love, love the automatic generation of the CMS form and superbill. I had been looking for this function for a long time! Writing progress notes is a breeze. And it's affordable!

Cons

I find the integration of the appointments with the progress notes and the ledger to be clunky. To me, it seems like I have to make too many clicks when I'm editing appointments and updating with CPT codes.

Excellent system that you can customize to your needs.

I'm an outpatient occupational therapist and use this system to create custom forms, document, bill, etc.. Theranest meets my needs.

Pros

You can create specific documents in the system. It has a secure document portal, a secure telehealth system, excellent customer service, and they are always working on adding more features to meet their users' needs. I highly recommend. It's easy to add specific services (like more staff, telehealth, credit card payments, etc.) that you want to use. I have a "front office" staff member who works remotely and Theranest makes it easy to do.

Cons

I can't think of much that I don't like about Theranest.

Excellent practice management software for my solo practice.

Pros

I find the company is always growing, looking for ways to improve based on clinician feedback. Two changes/improvements have been made that I've requested (along with others) and they've made many many other improvements that hadn't necessarily occurred to me but that have increased efficiency or streamlining. The customer service is excellent. I used to spend hours doing my billing, and before that paid a human being by the hour to do it for me, and now it's literally a few clicks. I have very busy solo practice (30-35 patient hours per week) and I am 100% on top of my Intakes, notes, billing and incoming payments.

Cons

It has definitely steadily crept up in cost since I started using it in 2014, but I've compared it to other platforms and it's comparable or less for what you get. There are many features that I don't need at all in a solo practice, but again, this is probably true in other platforms (this, I'm not positive about) and anyway, I don't feel like I'm paying for a bunch of stuff I don't need.

Customer Support is Outstanding

Pros

I have found Theranest to be fantastic all around in the 2 months I have been using it. But I wanted to take a moment to recognize the customer service. All interactions so far have been awesome but exceeded expectations when I recently had a situation involving a unique chargeback claim. Customer rep. responded quickly to my questions and communicated with Vantage on my behalf. The whole process could have been much more stressful but with her support we were able to handle it quickly and effortlessly. Thank you!

It’s not SimplePractice

Pros

Overall decent features, I liked the calendar and color coding.

Cons

Not as easy to use as simple practice, less features overall. They charge you for email and text reminders per email and text. Seems ridiculous. Also no way to edit the intake and note form templates. Not good at all.

TheraNest Helped Me Improve Every Area of Practice

As stated above, I feel that I am better able to store information in a manner that invites reconciliation with time and money management. The Planners have provided some inspiring ideas as well as reliable language to describe some pretty important aspects of therapy. I am able to use TheraNest to manage both macro and micro social work, with some adaptation, as well.

Pros

I was a database developer, and had tried to create my own computerized record system long before we coined the term "EHR." TheraNest met all of the needs I tried to fulfill and that were lacking from other programs. I feel that I am better able to store information in a manner that invites reconciliation with time and money management.

Cons

The inability to modify the casenote or treatment plan form, or effectively export the data within documents (other than PDF).

A good option for small practices

Pros

I love the per-client rather than per-clinician pricing option! This makes TheraNest an excellent option for small/solo practices.

Interface is intuitive and billing is as simple as billing is able to be.

Cons

I was not able to personalize notes and invoices as much as I would like. It is definitely set up for mental health practitioners (I am a speech-language pathologist) and I felt like I didn't quite fit in since most features were labeled for mental health and the templates were not set up like an SLP would use (templates are modifiable but not completely customizable). I was not able to find a way to easily create a superbill, which I would need if charging a patient out of network.

All In with TheraNest

Our office was using one company for scheduling patients and patient notification (text messaging); one company for billing; and one company for notes which resulted in huge opportunities for human error; the specific needs of our office were not addressed with any one company. TheraNest addresses most of our office needs in one integrated program. Scheduling, appointment notifications, progress notes, billing, and ERA (eventually). I previewed the ERA and it looks like it will efficiently apply payments to billed services. I am very satisfied with TheraNest and strongly recommend it for other Behavioral Health providers.

Pros

Imported years of data from another system into TheraNest with no errors and very limited time commitment. Their customer support was very helpful and honest about the transition.

TheraNest is full featured- Our office used a competitor program for 30+ years but wanted/needed a cloud based state of the art EHR program- Our office tried several other popular programs but they all had significant limitations. We are very excited about Theranest.

Our Office is new to the program but so far so good. The customer support is excellent. They are adding features frequently, including specific features requested by users. The start up learning curve is doable and our staff picked it up in a few days versus weeks.

The scheduling, pt. appointment notifications, calendar, and agenda are well thought out and fully integrated. The initial intake note and progress notes took some getting used too but they work very well- DX codes are easily entered and updated. The progress notes are very professional and signed and cosigned if necessary.

I know this sounds like a paid advertisement but I have spent a lot of time, money and effort trying other programs and I was never more encouraged than with Theranest.

Our goal was to be fully functional with the transition from our current system to Theranest by January 2019. We are ahead of schedule and our intention is to bill our first full month of receivables for November 2018.

Cons

The fees were initially off putting. But after becoming familiar with TheraNest, I see the potential for a very efficient, time saving, integrated system that is well worth the monthly investment.

There is also flexibility with monthly billing based upon caseload (increasing or decreasing at discretion of the user) and it seems fair.

Pros

Like the ease of the program. Almost everything was clickable. Any feedback or suggestions were always consider. Many good changes which made billing must easier to use as well for the clinician for their notes.

Cons

The reporting feature of claims and report of how Payments were made were hard to read or didn’t pull all the information needed.

If you value customer service, this is the program for you!

All my billing is integrated. My clients love the appointment reminders and that their co-pays are paid with a click of a button after each appointment. My new patients love the patient portal. My notes are much more thorough and audit-proof. All my patients who were with me before the switch have commented that they like theranest better.

Pros

1) The customer service by far! I've never had an issue getting questions answered.
2) I love the customizable forms and the client portal.
3) I enjoy that it works with by previous clearinghouse, office ally. I love that I get help with billing when I need it.
4) I love that I can save credit cards and be paperless with my forms and client signatures.
5) I am enjoying that it syncs to my calendar so I can easily avoid double-booking my personal life and work life.

Cons

1) Invoicing is clumsy. There is no "pay now" button when I email an invoice and no way to set up automatic invoicing.
2) Processing ERAs is also quite awkward, I have to have two windows opened up at the same time to enter the write-offs and payment amounts correctly into one account. My previous software fed the information into the patient account automatically, with one push of a button. I have found ways around both these issues and am holding out hope that they will add this feature!!
3) I am regretting that I picked a software limited by patients rather than staff. I am working to keep my active clients under 50, but that's kind of a pain.

Honest opinion

I will be honest this was my third software program in 90 days. I was disappointed with all the promises that did not produce once I signed up. I was not hopeful when I signed up with yet another service. This company does lack some features that I desire but it was a compromise and I have been pleasantly surprised. Unless something drastic happens I have found a software home. I would reccommend this service.

Growing system!

Pros

I love the interface, it is excellent and very easy to use. It is also excellent for its cost. The support is very helpful and always on point. Submitting patient paperwork is an add on charge though which should be free.

Cons

It is difficult and not easy to create the forms. It is actually extremely time consuming. That is the only con though.

My EHR of choice!

Easy record-keeping and submission to insurances. My biller can log in and handle the billing aspect, but its easy enough that I can fill in for myself if he's on vacation or anything.

Pros

Easy to use with the help of excellent customer service and tutorials! Plus lots of add-ons (credit card processing, telehealth, Wiley case notes, upgrade-able plans).

Cons

The app is great, but I'd like to be able to do everything I can do on the website on the app, too!

They get Therapists

So happy I found them. Right when my business picked up, I tried all of the other options and kept coming back to TheraNest. Pricing is fantastic!

Pros

The intuitive pieces! It's like driving a Volvo. It is so easy to use (and to learn to use) that I canfocus on the work I need to do. I am a solo shop & I get incredible customer service. It's a lifesaver. Even better than that? They are really great people on the other end. They ask for help in approvements & update us every month with new changes.

I really need a "couples" template. They are working on it!
