### Allscripts Practice Management Review: Streamlining Administrative Tasks for Healthcare Providers

I had the chance to watch and engage with Allscripts Practice Management when I was interning at the university's pharmaceutical product development and research department. In order to facilitate effective patient flow, coordinate patient appointments, and ensure proper invoicing and revenue management, the software was essential. I saw firsthand how Allscripts Practice Management's connection with the EHR system sped up data transfer and made thorough patient care coordination possible. We were able to study patient demographics, appointment trends, and revenue patterns using the software's reporting features, which helped with our research on healthcare utilization and practice efficiency. In general, Allscripts Practice Management worked wonders for streamlining practice procedures and enhancing patient care outcomes.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

For medical practices, Allscripts Practice Management has a number of benefits. In the first place, it automates administrative processes like appointment scheduling, patient registration, and billing, increasing workflow effectiveness and decreasing manual errors. The software's user-friendly interface and adaptable templates enable simple documentation and improved employee communication. Electronic health record (EHR) systems are easily integrated with Allscripts Practice Management, allowing for thorough patient care and information sharing. The program also offers strong reporting and analytics features, allowing practitioners to learn important things about patient demographics, revenue patterns, and practice performance. Overall, Allscripts Practice Management streamlines business processes for medical practices, resulting in higher output and better financial results.

#### Cons

Despite the fact that Allscripts Practice Management has several advantages, there are a few things to take into account. The implementation process can be difficult and time-consuming, and staff members need to be properly trained and supported. System hiccups and sluggish performance have occasionally been noticed by some users, especially when managing huge amounts of data. Limited customization possibilities and particular process requirements could necessitate more development or integration work. Additionally, for small practices with tight resources, the cost structure of the program might be a hurdle. Despite these factors, the extensive practice management functionality and integration capabilities of Allscripts Practice Management exceed these drawbacks, making it an important tool for medical practices.

It is so ancient. Not sure how they can say they are one of the best or leading in EHR?? Complete lie! Has any of the faculty or developers of this company ever seen any other EHR?? I'm guessing not. Maybe they should see some other EHRs or have experienced providers help them! You also get nickel and dimed on everything even when you pay majors dollars to have the program and have to continue to pay for services, monthly fees, and for every upgrade and added the feature. Their customer support is horrible because half the people don't know what they are doing.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 1/5
- Value for money: 1/5
- Customer support: 1/5
- Functionality: 1/5

#### Pros

Nothing. Well I guess I'm supposed to pretend that I like something to move forward, but I honestly cannot!

#### Cons

Everything from the layout, templates, workflow, e-scribing, how only one person can be in the note and you have to steal it or take it over in order to do your part. I can't even create a note on someone I saw last week because another provider had two charts open on this patient that needed to be finished. AND...I can't even view any of these open notes either even when I am following up on this patient and need to see some things. You have to enter each prescription and send separately. The search buttons for diagnosis, procedures, test, education is horrible. You need to be able to find one thing with multiple names medical and layman, most commonly used. The nurses should be able to put in their vitals and go into medication, history, social, family, etc.....at the same time I getting into the HPI, exam, diagnoses and plan. I should be able to see the entire note, every section, on one page so I don't have to do a tone of clicking to try and see everything. I want to see the entire note. I should also be able to see problem list, medications, and other things off to one side. If someone is trying to open a section I am in it just needs to let them know by saying "so and so is in this section right now do you really need to take it over as it wouldn't save anything." This was helpful with the last EMR I had at my last job as I could even ask the person it said was on if they could get out of the section if I needed them too. When you have a template, you should be able to select something, but still alter it. For eg. if you choose one of the already made master list options you can't even put anything before or after or in between the sentence. Even when entering days or weeks to some of these sections you should be able to free text and even put 2-3 weeks or whatever you need to put in there. It should be very easy to make templates and edit things. Have any of these developers ever went into a medical office to even see how busy and complicated it is. It needs so much work. It is SOO old school!! I seriously am so frustrated, I can't even understand how this business is still successful?? I'm honestly going to spread the word on this program as it is the worst investment ever. Also when running reports it doesn't capture everything. Also isn't very helpful for meaningful use.

We've enjoyed using the Veradigm platform, it is easy to use and fairly customizable. We have multiple providers so being able to do custom templates for each of them is helpful. Staff in all areas of the practice use it daily and find it easy to use regardless of their role.

#### Ratings breakdown

This is an easy to use platform that doesn't have a lot of frills but gets the job done. It can feel basic sometimes but for those looking for ease of use the lack of fancy bells and whistles is actually a good thing.

Overall, it works because i have spent countless hours learning the complexities of the system. There are several things i wish they would do to integrate it more with the other software that Allscripts offers.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Works good. Easy to schedule patients. once you learn the complex system, you have a lot of control over the fine details.

#### Cons

I hate that it is so different from the EHR. The PM seems like it hasn't changed in 15 years, whereas the EHR has been updated, leaving the PM behind. It does have the stereotypical crashing issues that all Allscripts products do. Very complex setup. You need to be well versed in IT or have a professional IT person to setup the Scheduling templates.

The day to day appointment management functions are straightforward and the set up is intuitive. Setting up appointments, moving appointments, looking up patient demos and changing registration is all very simple.

#### Cons

it seems like every other week, the software goes down or is "fluctuating" as they describe it, some of the practioners and their MA's can get on, some can't. No matter what, when it does start working again allscripts always forgets that there is a LIS that depends on their input. It cost us thousands in LIS troubleshooting when the system was down for 4-5 days.

#### Cons

it seems like every other week, the software goes down. They are always expeiencing problems with the "cloud". Every doctor can make their own "short list" but the shortlist items don't update when changes have to made to testing, so requisitions go to "hold" mode

We are a small three doctor practice. Signed with Allscripts in 2013 as Bon Secours Hospital was contracting with them and offering to subsidize portion of cost. Three years of struggling with customer support issues ranging in downed system to billing disputes. Our bookkeeper hired in Jan 2016 contacted Allscripts in January & was told account was in good standing only to receive a notice in April 2016 that we owed "reopened invoices" in the amount of dollars. We continued to pay current invoices and disputed the amount until they provided us with an audited AR history of our account. They responded by putting our account on hold preventing us from doing business. We agreed to pay the disputed amount out of necessity in order to continue to see patients and generate income. They refused to provide us with an audited AR history of our account to review the charges only providing data in an excel spreadsheet. Additionally, one of our partners is leaving the practice due to life threatening health issues. Allscripts is refusing to let us out of the 2 years remaining on her license.

#### Cons

They are too big and too impersonal. Impossible to reach out to someone higher up in the company if you are having issues with any department whether it be accounting or contracts. We are still in shock that they had/have the capability to prevent us from conducting business due to legitimate dispute even though we continued to pay them. They can and will prevent access to your records unless you comply with them.

We use the Enterprise version (11.) in a large multispecilty practice. We used paper charts before this. This EHR is a Jack of all trades, but master of none. The user interface is antiquainted (the Pro version appears more develped in this regard) and oftentimes requires multiple clicks to get to basic information. It is hardly intuitive to someone like me who is very computer literate. The med list is hard to read and contains way too many details on the summary page. The note tools accept all forms of input, which is a postive, but the editing tools particularly for structured notes is absimal because of many bugs. Editing becomes a real chore and source of dissatisfaction. Input of laboratory data is not flexible in the sense that one cannot make manual entries or make custom feilds without significant tech support, which is lacking. Some of the order entry tools do not work correctly (standing orders to be specific), a known bug for a long time, but still no resolution. Problem oriented documentation is incomplete as there is poor connectivity between problem lists and an assessment of it (although, it does connect the dots for coding and for linking meds and labs to problems, just not easy to get too). Our in-house support staff are experiencing significant lags in updates and fixs for this product. To the extent that we can send scripts electronically and document changes in medication dosing, that part works well and should since that is where Allscripts excels. Its too bad that the rest of the product is so buggy and neglected. In short, I would not recommend the Enterprise version of this product. The ratings page for this site should probabaly make a distinction between the 3 products offered by Allscripts since they are not all the same.

Problems understanding the customer service, overall language barrow. Ask when to call in (Have you check the Allscripts Port for the answer first before call customer service) We are a busy 4 physicians office and don't have time to search for the answer to our problems) We need an answer so we can continue on with our daily duties.

Lots of downtime. At my institution, that meant we could return to paper charting which was more accurate & efficient.

#### Cons

Lots of clicks to do anything. Requires several screens to do almost anything, with slow transition time between screens. Used this 68 months, seemed slower the longer we used it. Certain parts could not be edited. Requested changes re: typos & inaccurate descriptions which could not be edited, and still were not fixed after years and multiple Updates. Frequent freezes and crashes. Anytime an Update was implemented, several days of freezes and crashes. Many Updates worthless (e.g., changes in screen colors, fonts, design of screens, etc.). Template outputs too wordy.

Our Internal Medicine practice has used Allscripts Pro EHR since 2004. Having gone through many upgrades and increasing costs through out every turn of the way. You will be charged additional maintenance fees for every interface you add. You have to download and upgrade everything mannually yourself. Support for Allscripts is lacking, getting anyone to call you back in a timely manner is impossible. We attested to Meaningful Use in 2011 and are still being trailed by an audit because there was not branding on any of the reports generated from the system. I have placed many calls to try to get a letter on Allscripts letter head that proves that we actually were using the Allscripts Pro version 9.2 when attestation was done in October of 2011. It has been 5 days and 10 phone calls later and I cannot get anyone to call me back. Allscripts big selling point in 2010 and after was their capability to attest to Meaningful Use but, they have no support for you once you have attested using their product that can prove their product was used and what version was used at the time of attestation. I am very frustrated with this company but being in the middle of attestation for Meaningful Use I feel I have to hang in there with this product until after 2015 when we will have completed all attestation that will be rewarded monetarily.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 3/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

Easy to use and works with Dragon software. I like the macros templates that can be generated - saves typing

#### Cons

Slow, instability with random kick offs, a lot of clicking is needed. The ICD 10 has poor choices and conflicting descriptions with provider codes vs. ICD 10 billing coding.
