Open Social for HR-community
Start up and implementing of our old knowledge base has been rather easy for us. The monthly sessions with our customer success manager [SENSITIVE CONTENT] are very nice for getting additional support in terms of developing and expanding the community. Also technical support is usually pretty quick and effective.
PROSThe possibility to have an open front end of the website (with knowledge base) and a closed back-end for the community is really important to us. Now we can integrate the knowledge base with the community part and really make it a whole 'product'.
CONSAlthough open social works on Drupal (which is an open source CRM) it's not that easy to get off the beaten track. That is off course understandable from a development point of view but that makes you more dependent of the Open Social support team.
Reason for choosing Open Social
Combination of possibilities within Open Social as a platform. For example the opportunity to have an open 'front end website' (for sharing knowledge articles) and a closed community back-end (for HR-professionals to interact with each other). The amount possibilities within Open Social were comparable with other companies but the price of Open Social is a bit lower.

CONSIt was the top of drupal distribution for me on the time of drupal 7 and most of 8 but it become a little difficult on the the updates lot of issius , I love the dist but i ve lost a lot to make it standing . on drupal 9 I can not even work locally on it if not the updates of drupal there are updates of php or mysql and sometimes my mac updates something and nothing goes .
Reasons for switching to Open Social
Drupal is more attractive as a community and cms then to the group module so to open social dist to make things fast but it might be my error

Drupal rebranded
Opensocial just wants to rebrand drupal and make money on con the back of ontributors' work. If we analyze well, opensocial is actually just a template, with small modifications of the drupal source code and some modules created by drupal contributors and the support service only wants to extort money from customers. They also have the insensitivity of not informing what their list price is, many of the clients probably don't even know that they use drupal, an opensource software. The administration interface is all rebranded with opensocial logos and links. I asked for a price list for their modules that are for money, but they didn't want to tell me the price. They said that at this stage they do not communicate prices by email, after two weeks of almost daily conversations with an individual from their team. They are probably looking for large corporations, who are not interested in prices, I did not understand well what their sales policy is, their prices are not transparent and they do not respect European laws regarding price transparency.
PROSNothing except the template part, which is only partially their merit, the 90% credit must be given to the bootstrap community
CONSOpenSocial is not a software, it's just a template that makes small changes to the standard source code of drupal, which they try to sell probably for gold to uninformed people. I think that drupal should ban this project because opensocial does not bring anything new, many of the modules created by them, are now abandoned, or is not covered by the security advisory policy.so opensocial practically does not contribute to drupal, it just tries to sell drupal that is free
Reason for choosing Open Social
I didn't choose Opensocial only tested it, it's just a miserable template for drupal instalable as a profile that looks a bit like copy-paste facebook full of bugs and non-functional ( today 564 open issues)

Overall Kudos
I am pleased with the versatility and future possibilities! As an Open Source user, however I wish there was a more direct way to get help even if it were on a modest fee basis! I can afford very little in the development stage but believe once fully in production can develop enough income via a advert model to pay for additional tech. Whether that future tech comes from within the Open Social Community or outside, it would still require strong interaction due to the unique elements within its structure!
PROSIt serves the goals and needs I have been searching for many years. It is set to replace a 20 year old non CMS that I programmed with the same features philosophy (Social Media) and tools in mind however technology has surpassed its capabilities! Flexibility: The ability to reconstruct many features to conform to my needs! The Open Source Community, while seemingly minimal in manpower is committed and engaged!
CONSRegarding pricing, I use the Open Source version as the SaaS version is seeming targeted at multinational and very large organizations. Hence well beyond my means. Huge learning curve which is as much a Drupal issue as it is Open Social. Turnaround on support is slow (however, considering that it is Open Source that is to be expected) I have received feedback from many Beta Testers (Lay Users) that the navigation is hard to understand and even though I have provided comprehensive documentation on the platform, still find it technically difficult! Several joined but have not returned! Note: these beta testers come from the World of Facebook and Twitter!
Reason for choosing Open Social
Technical superiority! - but again not a paid user!
Reasons for switching to Open Social
Technologically antiquated, needed a CMS

Great tool for Community Development
Very positive. Great company to partner with. Extremely responsive and supportive.
PROSWe needed to create a regional social network for a smart cities initiative, and Open Social was incredibly easy to deploy and set up. We've had some great uptick in our community and everyone finds it very easy to use.
CONSYou're limited in design (e.g. fonts), although extensions like dashboards are really helpful.
Reason for choosing Open Social
We were looking for an innovation/challenge platform, and with Open Social we realized we could have that plus so much more in terms of community engagement. Now, the challenge component is secondary to all the other uses we've found for it across our initiative.
