#### Cons

Often times, my inquiries were not properly addressed. There were times when I had to reach out multiple times

#### Vendor response

Thank you for sharing your experience. We’re glad to hear that you initially found our team responsive and eager to help, and that overall, you had a positive experience with Nextgen Healthcare. That said, we take your comments about follow-up and having to reach out multiple times very seriously. Consistency in support is just as important as promptness, and we are actively working to strengthen our internal processes to ensure inquiries are addressed the first time thoroughly. Our overall experience is great! We appreciate working with NextGen and the agreements we have head for over 10 years. They have good support and we appreciate working with them.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

The billing functionality is robust and well designed to help our office submit claims, send secondary claims, review and fix denied/rejected claims, autopost payments and so much more for our practices. The ledger helps us track patient balances and be able to send patient statements. It is an intuitive software and we keep notes in the patient charts for tracking interactions and action.

#### Cons

Some of the menu items are a little more hidden and you need clear instructions to know how to set up provide NPIs and EINs on the back end. Having those locked after setup is difficult for practices that update/change.

#### Reasons for switching to NextGen Office

This was back in 2014 when AltaPoint crashed on us and we had to manually move all data over to a more reliable software.

### Solid EHR/PM with Potential if Enhanced

- Overall rating: 4/5

- Product usage: Used daily for more than 2 years

NGO has been solid and but it needs updates to keep current with other EMRs/PMs in the industry. It checks the boxes for most of our needs, but there are required workarounds for those that are not ideal workflows. Like all, there are some exceptional people in each department that make it worth it.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 3/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

NGO's usability and enterprise-level management of multiple practices for our billing company has allowed us to streamline protocols, improve quality, and manage practices and their operations effectively. NGO reporting is great if you like and familiar with Excel. Our team loves it, but it can be a deterrent for some. PM-wise, the platform is simple to use. Our registration and front office teams always find learning the workflows for registering a patient, scheduling, changing the schedule, checking in patients, collecting copayments, etc. pretty simple. EHR-wise is great. It works well for those who have invested time in developing custom forms, blueprints, care plans, etc. If you don't, you will truly struggle with not just this platform but any.

#### Cons

NGO limits other platforms from integrating using API. All other EHR/PM systems have that open API which enable us to seamlessly access the system and improve our patient experience, office workflow, and modernize our processes. We struggle to understand why NGO doesn't invest time into pushing this more open, but the "preferred partners" have access. This can help us love the platform even more as it will alleviate other headaches in our workflow that ModMed, eCW, AdvancedMD, and other big wig systems have. Faxes have been a struggle for many as there seems to be limited to no accountability for the NGO faxing services. We often find faxes delayed, but NGO support fails to provide any meaningful update during the questionable period. Then support (like all other support departments) move on because the problem is "fixed". This is difficult as it happens frequently. Known issues from support seems like a kiss of death and rarely resolved timely. It is very difficult to explain to key stakeholders for us that NGO support just said it is a problem with know updates of issues. We are currently dealing with a MIPS and MACRA dashboard reporting issues and that was recently classified as a Known Issue. I'm hopeful it is resolved with enough time for our clinic to review and prepare for submission date. The Ideas section in the Success Community seems to be the go to default, but we rarely see any of these ideas accepted irrespective of the voting process. I feel like it has been the same way over the past 10 years we've been worked with NextGen. Ineffective texting and emailing utilization without the required patient portal. It would be nice to have a way to have patients register, sign documents, etc. by texting documents. Instead, we are required to post on the portal or create a Document within the platform when they are in the office. Improving our quest to eliminate paper would be helpful, but the current "out-of-the-box" setup is not going to minimize this too much irrespective of the specialty. A focus here could be greatly embraced.

#### Reasons for choosing NextGen Office

The price and familiarity of the platform helped. I have templates already built, so that was easy to move over.

### Very Happy with NextGen Office!

We've been with NextGen Office for 7 years, during that time the product has greatly evolved into an extremely reliable, easy to use software tool that meets everyone's needs. The company and the program continue to evolve to meet the ever demanding governmental requirements giving us peace of mind.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

NextGen Office EHR/PM is an all in one EHR,PM, clearinghouse, portal, telemed solution that can be used on any device, anywhere. The program is easy to use, intuitive and very fast to document a patient encounter. Their new Ambient Assist AI scribe makes documentation a no brainer. You can put the computer down, turn on the microphone, and focus 100% on the patient. Ambient Assist will create the structured note for you. Their customer support and ongoing commitment to training is excellent.

#### Cons

NextGen Office has built in patient appointment reminders via text and email, but if you want more robust patient messaging you need to use a 3rd party app. That app works well, but it would be nice to have that as a native app.

#### Reasons for choosing NextGen Office

NextGen Office was a true browser based program, easily used from any device and was much simpler and easier to use and easier to customize

My overall experience it was great when it came to a corporation status, meaning larger practices combine.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 3/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

NextGen was one of the top of the line EHR when it came to converting from paper charts to EMR in our practice back in 2015.

#### Cons

One of the least thing that I did not like was that it sometime duplicated the data and it was hard to merge patients.

#### Reasons for switching to NextGen Office

Athena one was more effective to practice physicians.

### Horrible- do not use

- Overall rating: 1/5

- Company size: 1001-5000 employees
- Product usage: Used daily for less than 6 months

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 1/5
- Value for money: 1/5
- Customer support: 1/5
- Functionality: 1/5

#### Pros

Its easier to send in medications- but oh wait, it doesn't preload the quantity. Our last program populated the bottle size ( I work in ophthalmology). I cant say anything positive about this program.

#### Cons

Everything. Who ever designs these programs need to ask actual clinic staff/doctors/techs their opinion. We had compulink previously and we thought that was bad. We're all wishing for that program back. Nothing is user friendly. If your thinking of switching your office to this software- DONT!!!

#### Reasons for switching to NextGen Office

Compulink, IMED, Medflo It was not up to me, or we would not have switched. Next tech is 10/10, try simulating their design. Wish my company would pay for the better software.

### Don’t do it

- Company size: 11-50 employees
- Product usage: Used daily for less than 12 months
- Reviewed: May 2025

Generally, I would highly recommend picking something different. There are much better systems out there for much cheaper cost.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 2/5
- Customer support: 1/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

The actual patient encounter portion was fairly user-friendly. It was still extremely heavy, but they allowed you to have templates which helped somewhat.

#### Cons

The billing side was absolutely horrendous. The program likely cost our company thousands of dollars plus it was quite expensive to have just two providers. The customer service was extremely difficult to work with. You would ask a question and wait for a cuff circular non-answer response for weeks. We finally got to enough complaints that we got to speak to a manager and basically they said too bad so sad about all of our concerns. We left them the second our contract was up.

#### Reasons for choosing NextGen Office

My business partner chose it because she used it in the past

#### Vendor response

Hi Beth, We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. It's great to hear that the clinical side of the platform offered value, especially with the use of templates. That said, we understand your frustration regarding the billing tools and support experience. Our internal teams are always working to improve our billing workflows and revamp our support escalation process to prevent the delays and circular responses you described. We recognize that no system is one-size-fits-all, and while we regret that we weren’t the right fit for your practice at the time, we’d welcome the chance to demonstrate how things have evolved. If you're open to a conversation or feedback follow-up, feel free to reach out—we’re always looking to improve. Wishing you and your team continued success. —The NextGen Healthcare Team

### Medical Office Manager

- Product usage: Used daily for more than 2 years
- Reviewed: June 2026

NextGen Healthcare EHR is excellent for allowing staff to schedule and manage patient appointments. Our organization has also started encouraging patients to request appointments through the patient portal, which has helped improve communication and patient access to care.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Our organization uses NextGen Healthcare EHR for our primary care clinics. Through NextGen Healthcare EHR, our organization is able to order medications, document patient charts, manage appointments, and process billing and coding for medical claims. The system helps address several key business and operational needs within our clinics, including: * Billing and coding primary care claims * Managing patient appointments and scheduling * Maintaining electronic medical records and chart documentation * Ordering medications and managing prescriptions * Improving workflow efficiency and patient care coordination Overall, the platform supports the day-to-day clinical and administrative operations of our primary care services.

#### Cons

One issue we have experienced with the system is that appointments cannot always be fully deleted when necessary and instead must be marked as canceled. This limitation has resulted in a higher number of canceled appointments appearing within the system, which can impact scheduling reports and appointment tracking accuracy.

### NextGen Office Review for an integrated care model

- Reviewed: June 2026
- Review source details: This reviewer was invited by the software vendor to submit an honest review and offered a nominal incentive as a thank you.

Been using it for 7 years with current employer. I have no other experience with any other EMR programs.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 3/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

Fairly simple system to use. It does well with integrating our two offices. It allows both sides to access the other side, as well as providing patients a continuity of care between the two offices.

#### Cons

All updates seem to make the entire system crash in some way. When this happens it seems to us that the help desk has no idea how to assist with the problem, as we can not run either office without our EMR running correctly.
