Meraki Firewall for all

In general we have done well. We connect several offices with VPN and integrating more as we require is easy to do. The management of the network and the use of the internet is good. It has also remained stable and protected against threats that may come from the Internet.

PROS

What we like the most is the ease of administration and the large number of functions that a single device contains. We don't worry about software updates and we are always getting new features or improvements. One of the last major ones was the use of SD-WAN and more recently the ability to support VPN Anyconnect.

CONS

I think what we like the least is that sometimes from one computer to another the jumps of products are very drastic to support more users. The support (TAC) has also not been the best compared to what is received with Cisco products, there is still a lot to improve.

Reason for choosing Cisco Meraki

At the VPN level, Meraki is cheaper. Additional is easier to use and manage by few staff.

Gold standard for Medium-Large businesses...remote site management

PROS

easy to spin up remote systems, all cloud managed and deployed. Plug and Play setup, as well with templated usage, you can deploy in a matter of minutes

CONS

MX firewalls don't provide enough MANUAL OVERRIDES which would be useful. Not as robust as old IOS firewalls for that specific reason.

Reason for choosing Cisco Meraki

Long standing use cases with Cisco.

Lots of promise but not enough focus on the core

This software has great promise as an MDM solution but it lags behind other solutions. If you’re looking for free and iOS/Android this is for you. If you want to manage computers you may want to consider looking elsewhere. Systems Manager doesn’t scale well and provide advanced features.

PROS

This is a beautiful MDM solution that supports all platforms which is great. There are some features not found elsewhere that make it easy to integrate security functionality with Meraki’s networking stack. Want WPA2 enterprise with TLS? Systems manager makes this seamless.

CONS

Feature set prioritizes integration with Meraki stack. Features introduced by Apple or Microsoft at the OS level can take months if not years to finally be implemented. This can cause quite a lag as your user base upgrades. No real features to manage the patch level of devices aside from manually pushing updates each time. Licensing cost fluctuates frequently (it’s free, it’s paid, it’s mostly free but sometimes paid).

Meraki all in one dashboard administration

A+ with meraki, i have more than 40 meraki appliances all of them where deployed with no issues at all. I now have full visibility of my network, and can do any config change on the fly with no effort at all.

PROS

Recently the company that i work for upgraded from an old 10/100 network to a brand new gigabyte network witch includes every network device meraki offers, MX Routers, MS Switches and wifi6 MR Radios, all of them have the great functionality meraki offers and this is all can be easly managed from one single meraki console, the configurations are seamlessly pushed into the devices almost in real time, no delay at all, meraki offers all the cisco strength and adds a very ease to use console full of options that i need to say, if you wish to have the whole functions package you will need to have and advance license wich will cost a little bit more..

CONS

the licensing costs are quite high, but this is just the way it is, if you want to easly manage any device no matter where the device is, no matter where you are, then meraki is the way to go. it will cost yes, but youll get what you pay for.

Reason for choosing Cisco Meraki

Best value for the price, best functionalities and the reliability that is a cisco product

Reasons for switching to Cisco Meraki

Beffore meraki, network administration was hard, when needed have to jump into every device to make any config change, one device at a time, now, all of this is just made in seconds and just a few clics and your done.

Cloud management of equipment with Cisco Meraki.

When we have a problem with a fall in someone's equipment, we receive an email and SMS alerting them. Everything is easier and safer with cloud management. Cisco Meraki support when we needed it was quick, thoughtful and efficient to solve the problem.

PROS

With Cisco Meraki we are able to manage switches and access points in the cloud and from anywhere. The platform has a clean, friendly and easy to use graphic interface. With the white menu everything is nice to make the settings. At Cisco Meraki we have complete management with site plans and the status of all equipment in real time.

CONS

We have been using it for a few years and I do not have anything negative to comment on so far because the management and Cisco Meraki equipment have a lot of quality and security and do not give errors and problems.

Feature galore!

PROS

We use this product mainly for phones and it's amazingly feature-rich in that regard. Every piece of information I could ever want is available on the dashboard once the software is installed. The ability to use Apple DEP is amazing, as our phones automatically install MSM as soon as they are activated, right out the box. Setting up DEP is a hassle at first, but completely worth it as it takes away all other steps of configuration. As soon as a phone is ordered through Apple or a certified reseller, it will have MSM out of the box. You can even use MSM to install other pieces of software such as time trackers, CRM software, etc. It's a fantastic tool. Once installed you can get GPS coord, public IP address, storage stats, WiFi stats, ICCID, IMEI, MAC address, encryption and jailbreak status, and much more. You can send messages to the phone (Why are you at McDonald's and not work?), you can remotly disable password protection (or add it) and, obviously, you can remotely wipe the phone. MSM does everything our old mobile device management software did and MUCH more for aroudn the same cost.

CONS

Setting up Apple DEP is a pain. Adding MSM to exsiting phones is a time consuming process and, unless you wipe the phone, you only get some of the features by just installing the app from the app store. The user would also be able to remove the software.

Meraki - Management at your Fingertips

Overall, Cisco Meraki is a great company with some of the best products and services. I currently use their firewalls, switches, access points and system manager. When using all their products the user experience is excellent. The equipment and services are high quality but you will pay a premium to use them.

PROS

Meraki Systems Manager is a cloud based management system that grants you the ability to manage devices within your network. You can see a lot of information about device use, manufacturer and connectivity. You can apply user policies and utilize Meraki’s built in Mobile Device Management. You can manage PC, Mac, Chromebook, iOS, Android and more!

CONS

System Manager is a great tool and has great customer service, however Meraki licensing is pricey compared to other tools available.

Easy to manage and deploy

Overall network managing is quite good. It's easy to setup new location. Cloud managment makes it easy to deploy and manage. Single pane of glass gives ability to see all location at one and we can make changes. Due to price we limit use only to routers and AP co i can't comment on MDM, switches and other meraki products.

PROS

It's ideal to many locations with often changing IP address. It makes managing very easy. We can basically send router not configured and it will connect to cloud and setup configuration very fast. Aut-VPN is great in cisco meraki. It just works.

CONS

Price for convenience is very high. That's main thing that may discourage someone to purchase this product. Copying configuration to different router is bit tricky in UI.

Amazing functionality for the value, gives great visibility on devices

Fantastic! I have used Spiceworks and other inventory tools in the past and Meraki Systems Manager suits our requirements the best. As well as monitoring device performance, storage, etc. it allows me to organise devices by tags and really keep on top of my inventory.

PROS

Integration with Meraki Dashboard, free for up to 100 devices which makes it ideal for smaller businesses. Also the ability to remotely end tasks, remote command line, RDP web client, screenshots and useful statistics make this a valuable solution when managing desktops, servers and mobile devices.

CONS

Nothing really, sometimes devices take a few minutes to update in the dashboard but I don't have any complaints about the product. It is updated regularly like most Meraki products and gets better the longer you use it.

Easy to use systems manager

PROS

Meraki Systems Manager is designed to be easy to use. From setup time to adding endpoints, everything is easy and quick. It easily helps to track and, if necessary, remotely wipe lost devices. I also like the geofence feature as it sends notifications whenever a device leaves the geofenced region.

CONS

Though there has been some improvement in recent years, the system still contains some bugs. The mobile apps really need to be updated, especially the iOS app.

Comprehensive Network Management Tool

I work for a managed IT provider, and many of our clients utilize Meraki networking hardware. We do not use this software for MDM, but it is a quite robust management solution for managing networking equipment, whether you need to manage multiple clients or just one. I am not in charge of setting Meraki equipment up (only managing it after setup) but it appears to be easy to set up multiple sites within an organization, and there are a plethora of tools in a fairly easy to use interface to make managing your network easier.

PROS

For our clients who are using Meraki, I really enjoy being able to see the status of a client's site(s) at a glance to help determine if there are underlying problems on the network. Compared to other firewall options, Meraki makes is simple to carry out admin tasks like URL whitelisting, port forwarding, and creating other general FW rules. Meraki also makes it quite simple to set up VPNs (both site-to-site and client versions). It also has a good range of troubleshooting tools built right into the console (ping, traceroute, DNS lookup), eliminating the need to connect directly to the device to accomplish such tasks.

CONS

I feel like there have been moments where I wish there was more in-depth logging capabilities within the management console, but I am having trouble recalling specifics at this time. The console isn't otherwise really lacking in anything that I can think of.

Love this product

PROS

We converted over to Meraki about 2 years ago and it was the best decision we have made. The features and functionality of the dashboard are outstanding and being able to work from anywhere and make changes as needed is great.

CONS

Dashboard can be cumbersome at times and do think some of the items could be laid out a bit better visually.
