My go to Service Mesh for K8S

PROS

I've used consul in the past to migrate from LoadBalancers to NGINX and the console made it easy to list all services and backend ports. By creating templates we use it to get dynamic inventories for Ansible instead of static addresses.

CONS

Not a complain at all but some clients have ticketing systems like ServiceNow and will be nice to have integration from Consul discovery to the ServiceNow CMDB

Excellent product to implement Ingress and Service Discovery

PROS

Once the setup and configuration is done, by adding a few labels to your deployments you have service discovery fully implemented.

CONS

Complexity, and sometimes there's some network-related setup that is not easy to detect that will make Consul to not work properly, and in such cases it is very difficult to determine the root cause

Reason for choosing HashiCorp Consul

At the moment of implementing Service Discovery, it was the best solution for an on-premises setup. Plus being users of different Hashicorp products, the integration between those services is seamless.
