I could shout from the rooftops my love for this software. It's user-friendly, and allows me to take on more clients by literally being a personal assistant that keeps me in line with little effort on my end. I also love the learning experiences that come with your membership. These are conducted by some incredible people who have been in the grant world for decades. Customer service has always been on top and quit to respond as well. Priceless.

The in-depth customizable search options that are offered. Instrumentl offers, by far, more options than most grant databases on the market. This saves me a ton of time in researching for perfect fit grants.

The price was a bit daunting at the beginning - but that was quickly made up once I got into the software and started using it. I stopped having to use 3 programs to manage a research project. It's truly my one-stop shop.

Instrumental allows is to have all grant information in one location making this easy to use across our team. The software is very user friendly, easy to navigate and ability to customize which allows us to invest our time in our mission.

We would love to be able to look at a master calendar for upcoming submissions that include reporting or tasks. Also a way to search key words with in notes and attachments. We often input pertinent info but have to duplicate it to every year such as contact info, a new foundation email, etc but without remembering which year it was added to we often can’t find it again without a lot of digging.

Instrumentl is an excellent resource for research. They also provide amazing professional development as well. It would be even more impressive if there were a way to connect with potential clients who needed grant research and writing services too.

Instrumentl provides an amazing resource to find both private and federal grant opportunities. I love the "Funder Summary" tabs the most because they summarize lengthy 990 forms into easy to read highlights to find great matches for our clients.

It can be costly for consultants like me to pay for the software monthly, if I am working on writing the grants, as opposed to researching the grants.

I've been very happy with both the product and interactions with the Instrumentl technical team. The application is expensive, but I must say that it has sold itself over the last almost two years with data that I could not generate alone. I do supplement with other smaller, more focused databases but don't have the same success rate or volume of hits with other sources. I like the navigability of the database and enjoy the work of grant research through awarding as a result.

Breadth of data base/number of foundations (over 100k), extensive filter search criteria to highly focus your research, very readable report templates, and easily updatable foundation application fields. For a single nonprofit I can slightly alter search criteria and receive remarkably distinct lists of candidate foundations to explore. The reports I can provide back to Boards and management teams are easily understood by professional not familiar with Instrumentl - a must-have for a grant writer. A final big plus is the depth of data available on each foundation - to be able to fully understand who they fund, what they fund (and what they do not fund), how much they fund w/ ranges, the foundation history and mission. So much value is available from Instrumentl's search engine!

I've only found a few wishes not already met by the Instrumentl technical team. One is simply to be able to print out a calendar once generated for a project. I routinely update calendars for nonprofits and right now I must paste an uneditable calendar into a Word document. Second, it is frustrating at times to be seeking foundations which accept unsolicited applications but be presented with an Instrumentl search which includes foundations which are NOT open to unsolicited applications. It may be a foundation issue, not sure. I will say my list of 'Cons' would have been longer last year, but the Instrumentl technical team is routinely issuing updates to the application's capabilities so some of those earlier wants are now available!

My overall experience is that is easy to learn and maintain, easy to locate grants and the customer service is awesome. They also host training sessions which have been very informative and helpful. They are always willing to help and extremely responsive in getting back with you if you need help.

Most SAS programs are written by software designers and aren't always intuitive for end-users - Instrumentl is obviously actually created by grant writers who understand what the people who will be using the product actually need it to do. Our company has made several requests while we've had Instrumentl and the development team has been incredibly responsive in making changes that make the product more useful for our team.

We are consultants who do a lot more than grant writing, we still need to use project management software for our other projects, otherwise we would be using only Instrumentl because it tracks every aspect of grant prospecting to management.

As a company that serves multiple clients, Instrumentl provides a platform that keeps us organized and on the cutting edge of funding opportunities. Our team of 10 Strategists and Grant Writers can access important information, track opportunities, and download status reports. This makes it seamless for us to cover for each other because the information is readily available.

Sometimes I find it hard to search for specific foundations that we have already added, but for the most part it works well. It's a little pricey, but overall, worth it.

Overall, this is by far the best grant finding tool on the market - it has only gotten better since I personally started using this product 18 months ago, and my company loves it. Especially if you have a small grants team or no grants team, you need to invest in this!

Instrumentl is such a quality tool, so efficient in that we can research, track applications and manage awards and reporting all in place - a great way to house all this in one spot for smaller nonprofits like our Foundation! They are always making improvements and customer support is great. The automatic refreshing alerts me to new opportunities for our projects, so I never miss a good funding opportunity. Saves so much time and is worth your investment!

As we have a lot of projects, the page layout gets pretty messy and confusing; I don't like the inability to expand views out to the whole page. A desktop app would be nice, so that the view isn't limited to the browser page size. I also don't like that we can't sort projects by name, goal, etc.; it can be hard to find the right project on the left-hand size when you have to scroll through all of them on such a small window pane.

Very positive. We have been able to get about ten of proposals successfully funded from outside philanthropic foundations like Caring Foundation, P&G Foundation, Walmart, and 1772 Foundation which we would not have gotten or even known about them without Instrumentl.

I get daily alerts on what funding opportunities are available on select areas of my interest

It is not well targeted. It just gets me dozens of potential opportunities, and I still need to spend a lot of time winnowing through the list to find a few that matches my interest and requirements

Instrumentl saves numerous hours in grant search and management! No more excel spreadsheets to navigate. Love the 990 summaries with industry break-outs for at-a-glance review of prospective matches. The reminders for due-dates, including milestones I set are fantastic! And links to funder websites make deeper evaluation easy.

Due dates on LOI's can trigger a "past due" notice on a grant that is incorrect. This can be distracting.

The best part about this software is the opportunity matches vs just the funder matches. Not other software that I have used has done that and it has saved me so much time because I'm only looking at options that are actually open for applications.

I wish I could hide the applications that I ended up abandoning. I want to be able to save the fact that I made that decision but I don't want it on my tracker anymore. That's the only thing I would change

I had exhausted the foundations on my current directory and sought new ones, which subsequently appeared on the lists I received from Instrumentl. The information was clear and easy to access, and the customer support was excellent. I do not currently use many of the tracking features but will consider additional software that ties my record keeping to our Salesforce database.

While the information it produces is superior, Instrumentl's most impactful feature is its 990 summaries. I also like receiving updates, reminder emails regarding deadlines, and support from the staff in creating projects.

This isn't terribly important, but it could be a little more graphically pleasing--brighter colors, bolder lines.

This company has the BEST customer service, is VERY user friendly, and offers MANY features to help with grants management. The ease in navigating their format is timesaving and they have really thought of everything for the entire process of searching and managing grants. They are super responsive to questions, suggestions, etc.

There are some features that need enhancing, such as post-award tracking; but they are working on adding more features for this.

The organization features like reminders, due dates, categorizing each grant in my pipeline with description about where I am in the process (ie researching, plan to apply, applied, denied, etc) makes ease of use so much better than other programs around.

I love Instrumental, from its initial launch to the perks available today for subscribers. The first time I entered a project and completed the input required to start a 360-degree funding search, I found myself spellbound in the warp speed of the site's algorithms. I no longer have to spend hours on multiple other grant research websites to find what I need to help my clients build their prospects for grant funding.

Not one thing! I have no dislikes about Instrumentl.

I use Instrumentl predominantly as a prospecting software (and secondarily as a grant management tool). The system updates more frequently than other prospecting systems and has more targeted keywords, allowing me to identify more prospects for which to apply. I also appreciate the email updates the system sends out about new opportunities that have been generated for my various projects and updates to due dates.

Honestly I don't think anything's missing, it's a great software for my uses.
