# Bonterra Network for Good User Reviews

## Reviews summary

- Overall rating: 4.6/5
- Total reviews: 938

### Secondary ratings

- Ease of use: 4.4/5
- Customer support: 4.6/5
- Value for money: 4.4/5
- Functionality: 4.4/5

### Rating distribution

- 5 stars: 669 reviews (71%)
- 4 stars: 190 reviews (20%)
- 3 stars: 48 reviews (5%)
- 2 stars: 15 reviews (2%)
- 1 star: 16 reviews (2%)

### Most mentioned pros

- I also like the new AI tool for creating reports I was able to ask for reports that reflected favorable outcomes just to test it out and it was clever enough to figure out what data looks decent and to send that to me. Although we haven't used it I think the text and video tools are a nice option.
- Network for Good offers a donor management system that is intuitive, accessible, and well-suited for small to mid-sized nonprofits looking to streamline their fundraising and stewardship efforts.
- Additionally, the fundraising support is awesome, offering handy tips and best practices to help you stay on track and boost your programmatic efforts.

### Most mentioned cons

- I think for me having a couple of categories to enter the information into is unnecessary because most of the time it's duplicated when I have the drop-down option to disseminate where the funds are to be attributed to and for what cause.
- That said, the main reason for this review is Bonterra as a company seems to be going for the buying up all the small companies to weed out competition strategy instead of actually improving their product or user experience. Since they bought out Network for Good we went from having an account representative who we could get on the phone to having to beg to get in the faceless cue of a ticketing system whenever I have any issue.
- Every attempt to contact customer service resulted in automated replies, endless ticket numbers, and generic responses—but never an actual human being willing to take ownership of the problem.

I have enjoyed Bonterra software for the past 3 years. It gives me exactly what my organization needs. I feel like I have complete control over our data because of this excellent product.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

The aesthetics of the software. It is easy to see, easy to read, and very user-friendly. The price is competitive and this system works perfectly for the small to medium nonprofit organization.

#### Cons

I would like the dashboard to display a current total of of all three donor categories: Retained Donors, New Donors and Reactivated Donors. I would also like to see the date of a donors first gift displayed at the top of the donor record.

#### Reasons for choosing Bonterra Network for Good

Less expensive. Plus Bloomerang had additional features that we did not need.

#### Reasons for switching to Bonterra Network for Good

The Star was a database from the 1990's. The Star is not in the dropdown menu. It would be great if you had "Other" in the menu.

Largely very positive, from price to reporting to the new AI feature and communications tools. Until this month, I would say my experience has been really great. I have always recommended Bonterra to new fundraisers and small non-profit EDs who reach out to me for advice.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 2/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

I learned how to become a great nonprofit fundraiser through their coach. I find the platform fairly intuitive to use. I love the dashboard and its information presentation. I appreciate their efforts to get ahead-of-the-curve with improvements, most recently with the launch of their AI feature.

#### Cons

The email and contact components of the system failed in mid-November, a massive blow to my year-end work. It took a week for everything to be sorted out and working again. I have always been a huge fan of Bonterra, but this experience was damaging.

#### Reasons for switching to Bonterra Network for Good

We wanted a user-friendly dashboard that had the communication tools built in.

My overall experience thus far has been excellent. We bought the import support and our assigned support person was wonderful, working with us and advising us at every step for a successful import. We created our first campaign and have used the email module several times, each time with success. In fact, we can now eliminate other bulk email software that we've used in the past and save money doing so. The self-help modules and videos are clear and provide excellent process documentation. This is one of the best decisions I've made!

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

The onboarding is outstanding; led by staff who truly care about our success. The system is easy to use and works great. All modules work well together, the navigation is clear and the final outcome is excellent. It is everything we need all in one package.

#### Cons

I haven't found anything that I don't like. The only thing that is a negative, and it's actually unimportant, is that logging in can be a bit slow at times.

#### Reasons for choosing Bonterra Network for Good

We chose NfG because it is a complete package with all functions that we needed, it is simple to use, has an excellent reputation, and is reasonably priced.

I've used NFG for over 5 years now and have always rated it highly. Like I said before, I really like how they are constantly upgrading the platform and not all upgrades include extra fees. That is very important.

#### Ratings breakdown

#### Cons

My only issue is that downloading a video can be a little tricky, but I'm hoping to learn ways around that.

It has been a great resource. It helps simplify my work and helps me manage donors and receipting. I have utilized the auction platform successfully, too and have been able to raise a record amount of money.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5

#### Pros

It is easy to use and helps organize data. I find that it saves time and money. I really like the ability to track donor information and handle receipting with a click of a button.

#### Cons

I would like to have volunteer information capabilities, since I oversee the volunteer program. I would like to have volunteer hour management features. I also don't like the fact that FACTS is not able to automatically transfer new and updated family information. It takes time to upload new school family information for each new school year.

#### Reasons for choosing Bonterra Network for Good

Cost for Blackbaud was too high FACTS could not provide the proper software capabilities like NFG

#### Reasons for switching to Bonterra Network for Good

The cost for Blackbaud was too high. The school then went to FACTS, but there was an antiquated system that did not have the capabilities like NFG.

It's been a really positive experience. The customer service is quick and friendly. They're constantly updating the software for the better. It's really easy to use, even for the least tech-savvy people.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

The CRM works really well -- it's easy to keep track of donors, real-time donations, and events. It lets you stay in contact with donors and see their patterns of giving. It's also easy to see which events brought in the most donations, and lets you easily email groups of donors, either by event or by giving patterns.

#### Cons

The forms (surveys) are too limited. I can't collect data in the way I want, so it makes surveying donors difficult.

#### Reasons for switching to Bonterra Network for Good

Network For Good had more integrated features, had better customer service, and was less expensive.

Our overall experience with Network for Good has been wonderful! When looking at a new donor management system we compared several platforms and are very happy we went with Network for Good!

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

The one feature that has completely boosted our fundraising are the Donor Engagement Plans that Network for Good has to offer. This has been a huge help to us in the past year! Especially not being able to do in person events. It has definitely boosted our online giving by at least 10%!! Love how simple and easy the platform is to navigate and use. They offer lots of flexibility in creating communication messages with donors.

#### Cons

The only con I can think of is that you cannot automatically setup ACH donations to be processed through Network for Good. We have a handful of monthly donors who give through Direct Deposit.

#### Reasons for choosing Bonterra Network for Good

It looked to be the best product for the price. It offered everything we were looking for at an affordable price! Also, they were very great to work with in the beginning, showing us our options and how Network for Good would work for our organization.

#### Reasons for switching to Bonterra Network for Good

Our previous system just not do all we needed it to do.

#### Vendor response

Hi Heather, Thanks for the review! Congratulations on your growth - and way to utilize our engagement plans! Stats are looking even more promising this year! Best of luck :) Kathleen

I would highly recommend NFG to anyone looking to have an easy way to accept online gifts or tickets for events and keep track of their donors, including communications. NFG has saved us valuable time and money. The customer service team is wonderful and always there to help with any questions or concerns. It is easy to migrate data to NFG, and a team is there with you every step of the way.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

NFG is truly an all-in-one software for nonprofit database, donation, and communications. No more trying to integrate with multiple softwares. NFG makes it easy to group supporters/donors and segment communications.

#### Cons

NFG is constantly integrating new ideas and upgrades to its software. I would like to be able to easily group contacts who have started peer campaigns but that is not an option at this time. There isn't a volunteer database, sign-up side to this software.

#### Reasons for choosing Bonterra Network for Good

I had previously used NFG at another organization and couldn't imagine using another software. The constant additions to make the software better, the feeling like the customers have a voice and the ease of use makes it the best system.

#### Reasons for switching to Bonterra Network for Good

Donor Perfect didn't have a good way of communicating with donors, reports were hard to pull and the online giving pages were years behind where they should be.

#### Vendor response

Hi Jenn, Thanks for the review! We're excited to receive this feedback because it means we're accomplishing our mission of helping nonprofits grow their good. We'll share your comments with our product team and use it to help us continually improve. Thanks so much for being a Network for Good customer! Keep doing awesome things :) Kathleen

So far it’s been amazing. Anytime we need help we can reach a real person and solve the problem, and the program has remained user friendly through the years

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5

#### Pros

For me it’s the seamlessness from Fontacts and programmatic fundraising. In one space I have a clear concise way of organizing my funders and supports to not only raise money, but communicate with them as well. On the other side when it comes to fundraising , it is an extremely easy tool to create very specific fundraising buckets that you can use to target your specific donors

#### Cons

Facebook flags our fundraisers as “pretending to be them when we try to post on socials , it would be helpful ton figure that out but otherwise my only gripe with the program is having to pay an extra fee for an event as opposed to just a regular fundraising page.

Despite our best efforts to resolve them, Bonterra/ NFG has not lived up to our expectations in both service and support. Most importantly, we lost years’ worth of vital donation records, including hundreds of thousands of dollars in donation history from one of our largest donors recorded in our database. This devastating loss occurred because one of NFG's support members misunderstood a request to remove duplicate records and ended up deleting all our data instead. This error, which could have been prevented with better communication, has devastated our organization. To compound the problem, the accountability from Bonterra has been virtually nonexistent. Regardless of us reaching out multiple times as early as June to resolve this issue, we received little to no communication from their team until 2 months after our subscription renewed, which was several months after the initial contact. The unresponsiveness left us in a problematic situation as we tried to piece together what happened and look for answers on how to recover from this. When we finally heard back, it was too late. Bonterra/ NFG was unwilling to offer flexibility on our contract terms, and even though we were actively working to transition to another platform, they cut us off from their system with little warning. This forced us to scramble to retrieve our remaining data under a tight deadline, making an already stressful situation even more stressful. For an organization that relies on accurate donor records and strong data management, the failure of Bonterra/ Network for Good has had enduring effects. They did not take responsibility for their mistakes, provided no meaningful solutions, and ultimately left us feeling abandoned during a crucial time. I strongly warn any nonprofit considering Bonteera/ NFG to carefully evaluate other platforms before making a decision. Our experience has been a sad lesson of lost trust, poor communication, and inadequate customer support.

#### Pros

Very basic system to it is very easy to navigate.

#### Cons

Lack of Accountability and Communication: One of the most frustrating aspects of Bonterra Guided Fundraising (formerly Network for Good) was the lack of accountability when critical issues arose. We lost vital donation records, including large sums from major donors, due to errors by their team, and there was no immediate communication or support to resolve the issue. Repeated attempts to reach out were ignored for months, and by the time they responded, it was too late to correct the damage. Inflexible Contract Terms: Despite the issues we faced, Bonterra refused to offer any flexibility in their contract terms. Even though we communicated well in advance of our renewal that we were facing problems and might need to transition off their platform, they still renewed our contract without providing a solution and eventually cut us off, leaving us scrambling to retrieve our data. Poor Data Handling and System Limitations: The system itself proved unreliable for managing large amounts of donor data. When a data import error occurred, it not only caused us to lose records but exposed serious limitations in their platform's ability to handle important donor information properly.

### Poor customer service

Bonterra's product works ok, it's difficult to pull accurate data because of the lack of options for soft-credit management, and there are not reporting options. In general you can't do global changes and the options for custom fields are not robust. There are MANY better, cheaper options out there right now for a CRM if the main thing you need is quality data management and reporting. That said, the main reason for this review is Bonterra as a company seems to be going for the buying up all the small companies to weed out competition strategy instead of actually improving their product or user experience. Since they bought out Network for Good we went from having an account representative who we could get on the phone to having to beg to get in the faceless cue of a ticketing system whenever I have any issue. The customer service is now gone and no apologies made, we are just a number.

### Great customer service, but conversion is a time-consuming pain.

At this time, we haven't been using Salsa CRM long enough to record any marked benefit. We're still in the problem-solving phase of post-conversion. As the Development Director, I did receive an immense benefit from sifting through the 2.5 million data fields from our conversion templates, however. I now have intimate knowledge of our constituents and our data that I didn't have before. It's given me a better view of our donor base which has allowed for the placement of fundraising strategies. If CRM and Engage would ever interphase properly, Salsa could probably make my life a lot easier. But right now, it makes it more difficult.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 2/5
- Value for money: 3/5

- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

Customer service is awesome. I appreciate that I can call and get help instead of wading through hours of online instruction videos. Everyone I've encountered has been helpful and knowledgeable. I appreciate the ability to categorize constituents into groups. It's proven very helpful on directing messaging to appropriate constituents.

#### Cons

Frequently used items, such as notes and address and phone edits, aren't where one would think they would be. When learning the system, it causes a lot of frustration trying to find things. Also, there are lots of drop down menus without explanations on how each category affects the larger picture. For example, under "Edit Address," there is place to check is the address is "Home," "Business," or "Primary." (You can check more than one.) Then across from that, there's a drop down menu titled "Reason." No explanation of what this category means. The choices are "All Correspondence," "Bad Address," "Non-Solicitations Only," "Primary Address," or "Solicitations Only." How does this relate to the "Preferred Contact" drop down found under "Constituent Information" which also features "Solicitations Only" and "Non-Solicitations Only"? Isn't that overkill? What's the logic behind that? It would be nice if there was a printed user's guide. Sure, there's all sorts of information online to sift through, but who has time to watch videos? Give me a searchable .PDF with general instructions that include an overview of the drop down menu choices and their best uses. Finally, conversion is NOT easy. You get what you pay for. We paid for the basic conversion, and I had to manually process over 2.5 million data fields from our previous software to Salsa's templates. It took me 6 weeks. We're still waiting for Salsa CRM and Engage to interphase properly 2 months later.

Donna - Thank you for your thorough review. We encourage you to provide feedback directly to Salsa as we do incorporate our clients' enhancement requests into future releases. Our Director of Customer Support will be reaching out to you directly to address some of your specific issues. Regarding documentation, we do have an online user's guide that you can download if you prefer printed materials. You can also use our online knowledge base which is searchable by topic. Also, all Salsa customers now have access to Salsa Scholars, our brand new e-Learning platform. It's self-paced interactive learning for both Salsa Engage and Salsa CRM and the purpose built integration which we continue to enhance. In the latest release (expected to be in production by the end of July 2017), you will see enhancements to the integration which were made based on the feedback of our active user community. Please contact Customer Support if you need access to any of the tools listed.

### Network for Good - a partner in our fundraising success.

Overall, I am very pleased with Network for Good and have seen amazing results in the level of fundraising we've been able to experience thanks to the platform. As I stated earlier, the customer service I've received from Network for Good at all levels is second to none and I credit a lot of my fundraising successes to the work I've done with [SENSITIVE CONTENT] as my coach. Additionally, I love the video, email, and text tools integrated into the platform and use these regularly.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

The things I like best about Network for Good include access to an excellent fundraising coach. [SENSITIVE CONTENT] is the team I don't have otherwise. Someone I can bounce ideas off of, and who can give me a professional and outside perspective about campaigns, events, etc., and new ways to look at fundraising. I like Network for Good's overall platform and interface. When I began working for CMCA two years ago I was able to quickly learn the system and do at least the basic things to ensure that donations were being recorded, acknowledged, and that donors were being kept informed about the work they were supporting. As I've been using Network for Good more, I've gotten better at using the analytics and reporting tools more effectively and efficiently and have fallen in love with the tools available to do individual and group video thank yous or updates and to text donors. I use the email and letter portions of the platform frequently and appreciate the variety of preset options available but also appreciate the ability to customize things as I want to. The customer service provided by Network for Good is second to none.

#### Cons

Reporting is the area that I am least confident about. Understanding how to pull a report can be complex at times and often when I pull reports using what I believe to be the right criteria, I get varied results making me question whether I'm using the reporting functions correctly or whether the reports are as accurate as they should be. While there are some preset filters available, I believe a survey to find out the most common reports used by your clients might be helpful to allow your team to set up these reports for folks to use. There is a certain set of knowledge a person needs to have to understand how to pull reports from databases, and honestly, it takes time to learn this, making this piece a little more user-friendly and more "reliable" data-wise would be helpful. All this is to say, I suspect the variances I get from the reports I pull are due to my own mistakes. I suspect someone who has lots of experience in pulling reports would get more consistent results. I am a one-person team, though, responsible for a lot of things in addition to fundraising, so some things to help ease this process would be appreciated.

I am overall very happy with our use of NFG for our DMS.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

The system is very intuitive and easy to learn and subsequently use. It was a great next step for our organization in terms of adopting a DMS that went above an beyond a very simple system that ultimately dealt in spreadsheets. We love to use the video feature and often use the built-in communications platforms for easy communication with our donors. Generally, I am pleased with the filtering options and functionality, although there are some pieces to that the I would like to see changed or added. It is great to have the option to export and import data with ease

#### Cons

I have had ongoing issues with the direct mail feature. Despite several chats with the support team and attempts to edit the original templates to our direct mail letters, I continue to have issues with the formatting. It would also be ideal to be able to export the letters to both Word and PDF so that edits could be made via Word when those edits are not possible in NFG.As well, it would be great to be able to add attachments to gift entries. For example, when a donor makes a gift via check, I would like to be able to attach the scan of the check and the scan of the signed acknowledgement letter. An additional feature that would be extremely helpful would be to filter on pledges and tasks. This would be incredibly helpful when pulling reports for our Development Committee and Board. Finally, and this is minor, it would be helpful to have the ability to search within the filter field - in other words, instead of scrolling through the drop down list to find a category to filter on (i.e. donation date, address, etc), it would be possible to search the list from the top by typing in the field I am looking for.

#### Reasons for choosing Bonterra Network for Good

Ultimately it was the opportunity through Robins Foundation to participate in JumpStart and a yearlong paid subscription. However, I have used several databases in my development work and prior to signing up for the program, I did a tutorial of the software and was happy with the functionality.

#### Reasons for switching to Bonterra Network for Good

Because we were offered the opportunity to participate in the JumpStart program through a local foundation's grant, and a yearlong paid subscription to NFG. We were using a very rudimentary system before and actively looking for a new DMS. This opportunity came at the perfect time and NFG was a good fit for what we were looking for.
