Codenvy Software

Codenvy is a workspace platform for development and operations professionals. It enables users to edit, run and debug code. It offers cloud-based and on-premise deployments.

When users begin a new project, production runtimes are defined by existing Docker and Compose files. Runtimes are configured so developers can connect to them, and workspace agents inject root-privileged terminal, language services for auto-completion, and SSH access. Finally, a debugger is connected for code inspection.

Codenvy virtual workspaces allow developers to edit, save, build and debug code as though it were local. Workspaces can use the Eclipse Che browser-integrated development environment (IDE) or sync a desktop IDE. Workspaces can be shared within teams or with external users, and administrators can set user permissions and resources for each user. Integrations include JIRA and Jenkins.

Condenvy is available with subscription pricing. Support is available via email and through Github.

It can be a great tool for implementing projects with different tech stack, large teams and large base code.

Pros

It provides really stable infrastructure and compatible with the latest technologies in both web back end and front end, Java and Javascript's NodeJS.
It help me take my coding work spaces to anywhere on the globe and still be able to work

Cons

Due to the utility of the IDE it can feel a bit cluttered on a small screen.
Sometimes it can load slowly, it needs more tutorials and guides to use it.
It can be hard to start with, configuration settings and features can be messed up sometimes.

Pros

I have been using codenvy for my last project and it really rocks. It helps you to work everywhere you are making easy to develop your app. It's easy to use and I have founded nice examples that make it even easier to understand how it works. Recently they have made some many changes that makes it even better.

Cons

Due to the utility of the IDE it can feel a bit cluttered on a small screen. I recommend using a larger monitor or a second screen if you plan on using a laptop.

Pros

The fact that I am able to create my own programming language platforms and utilize them is great. especially for being a recent college graduate who taking the time to learn and test out different programming languages. It helps that you are able to use this without actually having to download software onto your PC.

Cons

I couldn't find online quick start guide and I had to figure it out how to setup and run the project.
It lags sometimes.

Codenvy Review!

Ease-of-use

Functionality

Customer Support

Value for Money

Pros

I would say it is one of the easiest cloud IDEs to setup. It gives on demand real-time collaborative IDEs and it's quicker than Cloud9 in this department.
A while ago, it was just the code you could access wherever you are. But now with Codenvy, even the environment is not required. You open the browser, you login and bam! You're good to go. It's has really taken programming to a new era.

Cons

The overhead of the page loading is a bit slow. But again, it has all these options to be taken care of. But I would really appreciate it if the loading speed was a bit faster.

Pros

The program provides remote workspaces on demand. I really like the autocomplete feature on this software, it is very easy to use and allows you to choose interfaces, methods and classes. The platform is easy to use, and I have based good examples that further simplify understanding of how the program works. Developers can use the program for editing source code, debugging and creating automation codes. The most important advantage, of course, is that I do not need to configure the development environment. The program is great for large teams and large projects that require some management and quality assurance.

Cons

I had a problem, I could not find an online quick start guide, and I needed to figure out how to set up and start the project. It would be nice if the platform worked with local storage. There are no visible security features, and I'm not sure if I can trust this cloud-based use when discussing our business.

3. Github integration and dockerization.

Cons:

1. Need some plugin support.
2. Auto complete code.

Gave it a quick test drive for a simple java hello world from scratch.
Probably should have looked at the samples first, but...
If you start from scratch its making you do a lot of work

Pros

web based, seems like a cool idea.

Cons

Like I said, seems like for something simple you have to do a lot of work.
Did not try the Android, but don;t see how it could compete with the Google/IntellaJ for free

Advice to Others

You are close, seems like you need to automate more of the initial config.
Did not see gradle a build choice for java projects

The GUI is fantastic I have a great experience feeling that you are in a native installation without have to configure a thing, also since it runs in the cloud there is no overhead locally meaning that you don't need run the project in a virtual machine or container locally, lot of tools for debugging, git and datasource integration.

Pros

Cloud base so you can access anywhere
Project runs in a container remotely so you can use a cheap chromebook to access the GUI.
Best for open source projects since you don't really have locally your code.
No overhead locally.
Customs configurations for runners.
Lot of tools: Console, Terminal, git and data source integration.
profiles configurations.
learning curve really short if you are familiar with eclipse or sublime text

Cons

Don't know where really is your project, It is safe?

Advice to Others

When running, have to watch the 1GB that you have available so you project do not consume it. probably the pay version offers and upgrade for this.

I've just started using codenvy and like how stable it is. I've switched over from another cloud IDE solution that wasn't as stable.

Pros

It is very stable. Customer support is great. I like that the free version has an hour meter, but isn't limiting in any other way.

Cons

The GUI was a bit overwhelming at first, but that is just because there are so many features they have packed in.

Advice to Others

I'd recommend this platform to others. It's the most stable and feature packed of any cloud platforms I've tried.

Great app, it's like Cloud9, but with a better web-IDE. Also, it's very easy to add to a Git repo, even if the proyect has already started.

Pros

The IDE and Easy to Use. Also a very easy Git integration.

Cons

Lacks native support for Meteor. Also, it needs to work offline and syncronize later.

Advice to Others

Please, do support Meteor and add a boilerplate. Also, add a desktop client to work offline and later syncronize.

Tried to use it but things were too complex. Usually when I use an IDE, it's all familiar and I can easily use them without any effort. But all cloud IDEs seem to be too complex for my small brain to operate. Try to make it user friendly so that even people's grandparents can figure it out. But overall it was the best of all the cloud IDEs.

Codenvy is a very good Web IDE that can be used to build multiple projects with your own virtual server. It has syntax highlighting, works with ChromeOS, and is quite powerful. Unfortunately I have a project which requires legacy FTP support which I cannot use in Codenvy because it is not supported. Codenvy does work very well for my SSH project though and it is my favorite UI out of all the current Web IDE options. If they add FTP support, I would switch from using multiple Web IDEs to just using Codenvy.
